As an aside: I was having a discussion with coworkers this week and we basically came to the conclusion that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to ensure that civilians are capable of hunting their government.

Being in a legally protected class protects you from discrimination on the basis of membership in that class, it's still legal to discriminate against you for any other reason.
For example: I cannot refuse to rent a house to a person because they are black, but I could refuse to rent to them because they are a democrat, or work for Microsoft, or drive a Ford, or any other reason that isn't age, race, gender, etc. If they happen to also be black, it doesn't matter.
You realize that when you tell them you're a veteran the next words out of their mouth will be:

Some ranges require it to be a member. They get insurance through the NRA, who makes that part of the terms.

Only reason why I was a member. I say was because I forgot to renew my range membership and when I realized I missed the deadline I didn't bother to renew my NRA membership because honestly I'm too busy to take time out to shoot for another year at least. Ffs I'd been paying for range access for 3 years and only maybe went once or twice lel
