My desire for Governor DeSantis as the GOP nominee for 2024 just keeps increasing. He is actively weakening the leftist control of higher education in Florida. (mobile.twitter.com)

DeSantis clearly has control over the Florida bureaucracy. What makes you think he will have control over the Federal bureaucracy?

Remember when the military actively lied to Trump about troops being withdrawn from Afghanistan when they actually weren't? Or the various employees of the Federal bureaucracies who were on record saying they were actively subverting Trump's efforts to implement his agenda?

Why would the Federal bureaucracy do anything different with DeSantis? And how would he handle them better?

We need stronger right-wing state governments willing and able to tell the Feds to fuck off. I would rather he stay where he is as an example of what a right-wing state can accomplish.

You put my thoughts into letters pretty well. I think a lot of Trump not doing something well or well enough was him being cockblocked. Him not having experience in politics probably also added to them, which he has now.

I think the biggest indictment against Trump's second term is that he continues to endorse neo-cons and other subversives in a way that suggests he hasn't learned very much from his first term.

He needs people close to him who are personally loyal to him. Honestly he'd be better off randomly appointing people who attend his campaign rallies. Lot of those folks would take bullets for him.

This is one reason I'm pessimistic about the Federal government in the short term: it's going to require someone absolutely ruthless to reign the bureaucracy in, and a person with that mindset hasn't appeared yet.

I think part of his endorsements are simply people who will most likely win anyway, so that he can appear to be a kingmaker. Don't know enough about US politics to be sure, but this is both beneficial from a political perspective, and fits in with being a populist.

I would assume he is vindictive enough to not endorse someone he is personally angry with for some reason.

this. his own appointees actively lied to him, even tried to set him up, or actively fucked him over, because that's just how deep the swamp goes. the CIA/FBI actively infiltrated his campaign team and cabinet with operatives. no way of knowing who he could trust. what makes anyone think desantis would sniff out the frauds any better?

If Trump is the nominee we will lose guaranteed in 2024.

I don't care if DeSantis is unable to fix Washington. I want him as the nominee as harm reduction to prevent another term of Biden.

When the President is a Democrat they constantly encroach on state's rights. Doesn't matter how good of a governor DeSantis is when the President is fucking the whole country up.

That is the angle you are neglecting.

We cannot have Trump as the 2024 nominee. He is the candidate that half of the country has a visceral hate for.

DeSantis is much more palatable.

I want DeSantis because he can win against Biden not because I think he will magically fix everything.

The only hope I have left for this country is a handful of states going full anti-federalist and creating safe havens for people who want to live without a boot on their throat. DeSantis seems to be willing to do this for Florida. If we had another 20 of him in various states across the country, we might be able to balkanize this dead country just enough to create a semi-amicable national divorce situation.

The only other options are a night of long knives or full on civil war, and not many people want either of those.

DeSantis clearly has Florida under control, but don't pull him out until the job is finished. He should stay exactly where he is until every single node of progressive power in the state has been purged. There has been zero indication he is ready to do what is necessary to take DC by declaring himself the living constitution.

Every single node? You're asking for a lot.

I like that. But it's the work of lifetimes.

I’d honestly prefer that he stay the governor of Florida and use it to demonstrate an alternative vision for society now that the rest of the country is looking more and more like California.

That’s not to say that I would never support him for president.

DeSantis can actually govern competently.

I cannot fathom throwing away a shot at an amazing DeSantis presidency just so Donald Trump could run again and get fortified against.

I pray everyday that the Republican base can be convinced to see what I see and that they will be smart and not make the fatal mistake of nominating Trump for 2024.

I was arguably the most pro Trump person in my entire family. I even successfully persuaded my parents to vote for Trump twice.

However after seeing Trump completely fail on stopping COVID hysteria and completely fail at stopping the fortification, i am done with him.

My parents don't like talking politics at all yet these days they constantly praise Ron Desantis.

Ron is much more palatable than Donald to large swathes of the populace.

We would be retarded to run the Donald again when we have a better option.

I hope our primary voters come to understand this.

Trump did some good things but he dropped the ball on covid, didn’t stand up to the thug rioters, kept saying follow the plan, and wasted so much time on Twitter and getting into pointless spats.

Trump is crushing desantis in primary polling. There’s no reason to run our two best candidates directly into each other, especially given their respective ages. Trump can have the next term, desantis can have the two after. We’re gonna need more than 12 years to right this ship anyways.

Trump cannot win.

Half of the country has a visceral hatred of him.

Why the fuck would you run a 78 year old man who turns off half the electorate automatically when you have an articulate effective governor in his 40s?

Running Trump in 2024 is a guaranteed loss.

The only reason they were able to pull off the midnight balloting is because Trump is so viscerally hated.

It is impossible for the media to induce hatred of DeSantis to the level where it matches Donald Trump.

You are making a big mistake when you assume running Trump is fine just because the media will demonize any GOP nominee.

It is true the media will try but it is not possible to get half of the country to hate DeSantis as much as Trump.

Sure the left will still never vote for DeSantis but independents will.

Running Trump in 2024 is a fatal mistake.

Trump would be better off enjoying his retirement, then endorsing DeSantis for president in 2024 and doing a few rallies for him to boost turnout in rurals.

Desantis will fare better in suburban areas than Trump ever could but I think some Trump rallies for DeSantis might be necessary in order to also maintain high rural turnout.

What's needed is a DeSantis in every state. Especially the deep red flyover states, where the Republican establishment is so entrenched that they constantly get away with RINO policies.

I wish Texas had it's own DeSantis.

This year in Texas the general election is between Greg Abbott or Beto O'Rourke.

To prevent the horror of Beto, all sane people in Texas are forced to support the weak milquetoast Abbott.

I can't consider him successful until he manages to make feminism like astrology in the education system. The basic principles of feminism is also the foundation of crt and tra. Just getting rid of crt and tra is like trimming branches off a tree. The tree is still there and will bear fruit in other ways.

The sad truth is that no President can fix this country. The rot runs too deep.

Even if by some miracle someone who you described overcomes the cheating and wins, and they surround themselves with a good team, the deep state will be able to limit the scope of what he can fix. And they'll just assassinate him if he gets too close to enacting serious changes.

I don't expect Desantis of being able to fix the nation.

No one will be allowed to fix the nation.

Getting DeSantis in as POTUS is harm reduction. We cannot take another term of Biden.

With Trump we risk another term of Biden.

They'll just turn DeSantis into Trump 2.0. Suddenly there will be rumors of an "n-word tape" and ties to white supremacist groups.

But I get what you're saying. I'd like to believe that DeSantis could get in there and Democrats wouldn't overreact but I just don't see it.

Is DeSantis GOP establishment? I think he was a Tea Party and publicly was pro-Trump since even before he descended the escalator.

They don't need to be a firebreather, but they need to be ruthless. This was the problem with Trump, he's basically good natured. You hear him on the secret tapes and it's not somebody who would pulling fingernails off with pliers. I bet if you heard DeSantis's inner monologue he'd be going off on how they can really fuck Disney and dick over liberals.

Tom Cotton is a self-professed neocon.

He would get the U.S. involved in multiple new wars.

Cotton is ok on domestic policy but he is godawful on foreign policy.

I don't have much faith in electoral politics at the national level either. I've been telling people who want to have such faith that they need a different attitude.

Conservatives keep looking for a hero. Instead, they need to have a more adversarial attitude. Instead of getting high on copium and hopium all the time, they need to be ready to bully "their own" politicians, to turn on them when let down and especially outright betrayed. Treat them like you will have to drag them, kicking and screaming, into doing the right thing because that's the only chance you have that they will.
