college is such a fucking scam. you aren't paying to be taught; you're paying for woke admins. I remember a story Carol Burnett told about wanting to go to UCLA and someone paid for her anonymously. She mentioned her family couldn't afford the tuition because it was as much as their rent which shocked me a bit. Inflation adjusted tuition in 1950 at UCLA would be $1,500 per semester. It's literally 10 times that now, and I'd bet there's fees that didn't exist back then that actually makes it worse. And I bet they actually paid the people teaching chemistry (can you imagine)!

The really fucked thing is if someone wanted to make a no frills place of higher learning that operates like a university did 70 years ago it would get regulated into the ground. "You can't just not have a diversity officer!" the government screams as they shut you down permanently. "Build your own X" always ends up being "build your own government."

Yeah I'd be fine with that at this point. The leftists wouldn't though.

College can still be a good idea if you go to a top tier university and don’t major in lesbian dance theory and even then you can sometimes major in lesbian dance theory. Although many majors at top 10 schools can be legitimately great and worthwhile, it’s more about the connections and name and the fact that you got in, which carries over with you for the rest of your life. If you’re just going to Butthole University though, it’s less valuable. It still can be, but significantly less.

I went to a top tier school and that pretty much set things for me from there. Even my friends that majored in things like Classics or a language are making good money in unrelated jobs based on the connections our school provided us, which is each other and past and future alumni. All of our professors were/are the top people in their fields and often celebrities. Take their classes, sit in the front, do well, make friends, get good grades, and you’re set. If your teacher is a part time mom in Nowhereville that won’t apply.

All the top schools still have real programs and such. There’s a lot of woke talk and attempts but most people just ignore it or smile and nod and pretend nobody said anything as the wokies shit all over any humanities department. Most people at top schools in the US at this point are international folks, so you get worldwide connections too.

You just unironically described a globalist influence ring that is almost completely detached from actual higher learning lol

Not really, though globalists all go to top schools in most cases. It’s just basic networking. You can’t call basic networking a globalist influence ring. You do tend to get the best programs potentially available for something too, and taught by the best people. Part of the point of higher learning has always been to connect you with top people in various fields and disciplines to be able to have them as resources.

Thinking of ‘higher learning’ as going to a school to get a merit badge for some specific thing someone decided to give one for is more of a certification mindset. Which is fine, but it’s a different thing and the University system’s never been about that. They did come up with a bunch of Wikipedia degrees for diversity admits though, and women. There are plenty of smart women in colleges but if you want to find the most women, look towards the most made up majors and it’s like an ugly sorority meeting.

Even going to a trade school has half the point of connecting you with people in the field to apprentice under and network with.

At my school, there was a dance / physics double major. Not sure how she was at dance, but I had a physics class with her and she was mediocre at that, but still a lot of work to do both and she certainly wasn't stupid.

Also the best looking girl in the physics department by a looooot, so that probably got her opportunities after graduation as well.

I’ve actually seen pretty girls do better in STEM academic fields seemingly by virtue of being the least fugly. They’re still plenty talented but you’d be hard pressed to say they didn’t get a foot in the door because they were easy on the eyes. Which is fine. Works with guys too. Being talented and attractive wins over just being talented.

You know what's sad? This is how spoilt leftoid trust fund babies become "educators". They are the only ones who can afford this. Same with media and such.

Yep. Someone wanted to be in chemistry without the hard work of chemistry and daddy gets to tell everyone how his child has a doctorate and is a professor at a prestigious school.

The good news is fluency in English can land jobs. My friend is high up at a community College, and said the number 1 complaint they have for the math department is students can't understand the professor, so being fluent and well spoken can land jobs against foreigners.

How can they pull that off without the usual suspects crying racism? I deliberately avoided the Asian names in undergrad because I knew I'd be teaching myself if I took Professor Ching Chong.

Fucking A, dude you just reminded me of differential equations. it wasn't even a professor but some Chinese grad student. Not only did she not speak English, but she also just wrote all the solutions on the board without explaining to us how she got from A) to solution. At least not that any of us could make out.

Ironically, girls in my class came to me for help, and I ended up getting a C because I did my final project in Mathematica instead of matlab, and, thus, the fucking TAs couldn't understand my work. I refused to rewrite it.

It astounds me how many people are able to land jobs without being able to actually speak the language. It's disgusting. I want everyone to discriminate more based on not being able to understand what the foreigners are saying.

Just imagine trying to understand them speaking while wearing masks. I can't imagine how bad college has been these past two years and since 2016 in general. I have been very isolated from that.

I wouldn't go to college in this environment unless it is a college that isn't crazy (which is rare). Masks are awful by themselves. I would just learn stuff online and get books from my library. It is not worth paying money for this experience.

Fair enough. After GamerGate and BLM in 2014, I already noticed the college atmosphere drastically change for the worse for what that is worth. It has gotten progressively worse overall since at least the 1960's.

It would seem that for a job where communication is so important, bring able to communicate in the language everyone speaks would be a necessary ability. Same thing for customer service and tech support.

I'm an MS student, so I'm sort of kind of in academia. This shit doesn't surprise me at all. There are so many cock suckers in my department who think they're God's gift to the world, and this is a STEM program too. I can totally imagine the narcissistic shitheels in my department thinking that working for them is compensation enough and that they shouldn't have to pay for labor. At least in STEM they mostly know what they're talking about, but holy shit they have no place ruling over anything. For every Fraudchi there's hundreds of wannabes with egos just as big as his.
