On a matter of principle, the ban Gab has on porn doesn't sit well me with, and under normal situations I would be against them for it.

But right now, we have more pressing concerns than whether or not you can spank the monkey to anime waifu titties. Especially since there are countless other websites where you can get your rocks off without issue.

Once we are out of the woods, if it still sits wrong with you, then you can leave for greener pastures.

BitChute bans porn as well, but you never hear about it.

In fact a lot of sites ban it, but you only ever hear about Gab. Probably because Torba is vocal about it instead of just burying it in a TOS that everyone "agrees" to but no one reads. I'll take some who's honest and upfront about their policies over someone who isn't any day of the week.

This is part of the reason I have never been a fan of hardcore Libertarian types. They are obsessed with their principles to the point of irrationality. Principles are an important thing. But sometimes, you must make sacrifices, even if temporary, for the betterment of your own beliefs. It doesnt matter if its censorship by private corporations, drugs, taxes, public infrastructure (schools, roads, emergency services, etc).

But no, 9 times out of 10 then would rather gain no ground because they were committed to it by autistically holding an impossible line.

It's also worth noting that principles are a luxury only afforded to victors. You have to win before you can grandstand.

It's one thing to say no porn, that's not my issue with FB/Insta (although Insta's new rules are pretty puritan and crazy), but the Gab account made a tweet today (apparently deleted now) saying the Supreme Court was wrong to call porn protected speech.

Again, if you want to avoid the issues with porn by banning it on your platform then fair enough- but to deny that it should be legally protected speech??

I'm no puritan, but with such ready access to porn on so many other platforms, it's fine one doesn't allow it.

I'm fine that they don't allow it as well, but the way they justify it can be bad. Saying "We aren't developing this platform for porn" is good, but saying "Porn isn't speech, stop being a degenerate" is just asking to push people away from your site.

and bring in better people who agree with that sentiment...

there will be much time for deliberating on responsible porn usage when there isn't an addiction epidemic going around making people into total despicable coomers. and i mean it, if a revolution were to happen tomorrow and we'd all be happy and sound of mind i'd be ready to start deciding how to keep porn usage safe, since hapless idiots with nothing better to do than rubbing their dick will always exist and we gotta take care of em too.

I'm just saying that "Free speech but not obscenity" isn't far from "Free speech but not hate speech" because where you draw the line is always subjective. As long as they have clear criteria for what is allowed and what is not then that's fine, but they don't need to dress it up to justify themselves.

I think all usury should be illegal, but my point was more about them putting their access to porn above everything else

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Gizortnik 1 point 5 years ago +1 / -0

Usury isn't a problem, it's the person who is taking that offer... but also doesn't want to take it, that is the problem.

If I want to borrow $10 from you rightthissecond, and I promise to pay you it back in 4 weeks, demanding an additional $3 is a good idea in response to me just taking your money for 4 weeks. Thus, a 30% is interest rate is perfectly reasonable.

That being said, it doesn't have too much to do with your original point.

Normal, traditional families are the way to win this

People are turning to fapping their dicks off because the amount of "normal, traditional" women are minimal. And if you find one, you run the risk of her changing her mind (because there is zero consequence to her doing so) and just becoming that divorce raping, child stealing woman like the rest.

So if you have a solution to just fix the vast majority of women (remember, its not a traditional family if she isn't a virgin!) start laying it out. That's the first step, trying to attack men into risking everything before you do so is just playing fast and loose with their lives and skipping ahead steps.

Stop letting Jews run the country. That's the solution.

I'm not disagreeing with you on ideas, but you keep just throwing out utopian perfect end points without any logical A to B in between. "Its not easy" addresses not a single part of "well how do you fix them." Nor does banning porn stop the oldest profession from cropping its head up one way or another.

You are trying to pass Prohibition again by saying "if we ban alcohol people will just magically stop doing crime and beating wives" but with porn.Which we have historical proof just makes the problem worse.

You'll notice how they don't even have an argument to refute you. Just downvote and insult.

I agree with most of the "trad" movement in principle, but they seem obsessed with repeating the mistakes of the men who took us out of the "trad" society in the first place. Such as Prohibtion, whose fallout is still fucking us 100 years later but now with a different vice.

Suffering and hardship for the betterment of yourself and your neighbor are the cornerstones of what makes a man, and made many societies great.

The reason so many undertook it was the understanding between man and society that there was more than likely to be compensation at the end for his misery. A wife, who provides a good home, made men willing to do horrific shit out of concepts like "honor" and "duty."

Now they've taken away the compensation and still expect you to do the work anyway, and cannot fathom why some men say "nah." Not even in the MGTOW sense, but in the "society isn't worth saving because the cancer is too deep."

I'd probably say to make porn required to be tagged or something and default to opt-out. That way it's not censored but if you're not getting people's only fans looking crap and autoplaying moans and shit when you're somewhere inappropriate.

Still that's just because I hate censorship. There's plenty of places to exchange porn and I'd kinda like that to not be a social medium.

I really don't get why they got so uppity about that. I thought Gab was always trying to be a direct competitor to the big tech communication applications, which were considered platforms for everybody; you don't want porn in something like that. Something trying to be a competitor to 4chan is a different story.

I thought Gab was always trying to be a direct competitor to the big tech communication applications, which were considered platforms for everybody; you don't want porn in something like that.

There are quite a few artists who use Twitter for their content, many of whom post both SFW and NSFW art. They came from Tumblr after their porn ban or Pixiv and now primarily or exclusively use Twitter.

Those artists who post even occasional NSFW or borderline NSFW artwork cannot move to Gab if they want to retain that ability without having to worry. Users who want to view their artwork or interact will have to continue using Twitter for that purpose.

Something trying to be a competitor to 4chan is a different story.

4chan is completely unsuited to the kind of artists who currently use Twitter. They want a platform for both posting their art and interacting with their fans (and allowing their fans to interact with one another).

That isn't to say that Gab should be that platform. The amount of users who might move over to Gab if they didn't have the ban could be minuscule, after all.

I wish more artists used Pixiv or even Hentai Foundry, because browsing and searching pics on Twitter is fucking awful.

because browsing and searching pics on Twitter is fucking awful

I get the feeling this is actually the reason why some Japanese Pixiv users switched to Twitter. It means less chance that some random asshole will stumble on your work and find it problematic for whatever the reason of the week is (though it does still happen as we recently saw).

Again, I don't like it, but we're at a point where our primary concern is not about which alt platform we like more, but which one will survive.

Gab's moral authoritarianism bent is absolutely stupid and self-defeating, and for fuck's sake, from a tactical position: porn is a money maker. Look at SubscribeStar. It was literally built for porn. Actors and Actresses were sick of getting screwed by Patreon, and they couldn't put their work up without potentially violating some term of service, so SubcribeStar was invented to handle exactly that. As soon as the Patreon Purge happened, tons of people moved there. Now it's a valid alternative. It's not a purely political alternative.

The same issue is with BitChute. If you're comprised of political refugees, that's what you'll stay as until you start branching out. What Bitchute has been slowly gaining on is non political channels.

Gab trying to ratchet down on it's own users for moral reasons is not helpful. However, they were one of the few places smart enough to say, "No no. We actually need to build our own infrastructure."

That being said, banning porn just generally is fine because if you don't, it opens you up to lawsuits. You can be guaranteed that the Left will not hesitate to use CP as a weapon with the first chance it gets.

Memory serves it was because he banned it on a moral stance, instead of a logistical one. Nobody would question a blanket "we don't want NSFW stuff on the platform" that would be taken seriously.

All of us can go round and round about whether porn makes society worse, but when you start making exceptions to free speech because you find certain things "gross" that's when people start to question your commitment to principles. Because that's how it always starts.

Now whether we have to compromise to find the one site that survives right now is much more valid a topic, but many people's initial distaste for them was based on that virtue signal.

That's my point. If you just don't want nudity that's a fine line. We all get it.

But the moral grandstanding and the "we decided that this isn't censorship because we don't like it" is a completely different thing. Because that's literally the same logic everyone we hate uses, but we are supposed to trust these guys based on "nah we won't promise."

Even people here are consumed by their own personal distaste and willing to compromise any principle just to own the "coomers" by just declaring something "not censorship, no free speech violation."

Porn sharing is a different service than what they want to do.

Most sites do indeed ban porn but Gab is the only one harassed for it, I can only think its because of who they are.

I'm not anti-porn, but the internet porn in general is far too accessible by children. A pet theory of mine involves this being the source of a lot of modern mental illness that society in general is suffering with, where a huge swath of the population really believes the most relevant thing about themselves is who they want to fuck and who they wish wanted to fuck them.

On an aside, I've always found it interesting that the birth of Section 230 immunity was the Communications Decency Act, a law explicitly created to curb porn online.
