I remember the early days of the web -at least early in the sense that access was becoming commonplace. I guess 1995 or ‘96, I’m thinking of. It was the wild west in those days. Unsophisticated, unregulated, new, and exciting. I never would have thought it would turn in to such a dumpster fire a mere 25 years later.
It's damn depressing. Those early days of the net were amazing. There were always political differences, but the whole of the Internet carried a strong individualist and libertarian tone. And no matter if you were a leftwinger or a rightwinger, you believed in freedom of speech and expression.
Amazing how fast things have changed. Now the Internet has become the quickest and easiest way for the authoritarians to clamp down on dissent.

I think this is what I miss most about the Internet as I experienced it growing up in the 2000s and to a much lesser extent the early 2010s. There were tons and tons of people who thought like this back then. Where did they all go???
Depressing in its own right, ain't it? I miss the days of rolling through parent folders behind websites for goodies and making html AOL profiles and finding obscure dark ambient music sites... I can still do some of it, sure, but it doesn't feel the same.

They've socially labelled everyone as a terrorist and there will be a huge purge of anything even remotely conservative. Trump will be scrubbed from history as much as he can possibly be unless it's to slander him. Pretty much what they did to Hitler, or anyone else who challenges their control.

That's why I deleted my twitter Wednesday. The purge was coming after the Ivory Castle was intruded upon. I posted only one political thing back in October, and it was along the lines of "you may not like him, but wishing death on someone is not right," in reference to Trump contracting Covid. The only social media I'm keeping is Instagram because I've never posted a single political thing on there, I ignore my friends' stories because 9/10 they are political, and I got some family I keep in touch with on there.
Do we have another lifeboat for when they come for .win. You know thedonald is in their sights and we are a secondary objective for some. Primary for the GGCrockers.
Admins have said they have a backup; I have no clue how they expect to inform people of said backup if e.g. dns gets unexpectedly yanked out from under us.
Maybe we can see if there is a possibility for .win to add the ability to send an email to users with enough up votes or posts on site. That way the life boat can be made aware for people who aren’t lurking for things to report to the web host to kick us off, but we all know where to go if that does happen here.
