So much for orthodontics, contact lenses/LASIK, psoriasis medicine, makeup, etc...

The argument would be that making the companies carry the speech they object to would be compelled speech, which is a big 1st Amendment no-no. The mall explanation comes from the Pruneyard case, where a California law requiring private malls to allow pamphleteers was upheld. But there's also Section 230, which the companies rely on specifically to disclaim any responsibility for user generated content on the theory that it is not their speech. Can't have it both ways, the 5th Circuit ruled.

Incidentally, the Pruneyard shopping mall is about the most ordinary thing you can find, the last place you'd think would be associated with a Supreme Court case.

No, no, cement is for the bunker, the batteries are metal.

They're going to need a lot better aim.

Thank you Mr. Putin; I will send you one Ukranian city next time I get a hold of one.

They could have at least had some class and called it Novus Ordo Seclorum.

The problem is that a good lawyer is going to tell you that you have no case, since unless they literally write "Employee X was laid off because he was white", the administrative agencies and courts will consider the case unproven and not even worth going to discovery.

They're playing stupid games. For instance, they count the tax incidence of property tax on landlords as on renters, but the tax incidence of income tax on landlords on the landlords themselves.

The source of this is the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, a left wing think tank.

Yeah, I accidentally clicked on the Quicken spending tab yesterday. By default it shows total spending since you've used Quicken, which I have for over 30 years. The single largest category by far was taxes, and it was over 1/3rd of the spending. And what do I hear constantly? That I don't pay my share. FFFFFFFFFFffffff

Yeah, someone's definitely off his meds.

No, they've never read it, and most of them haven't seen the series either. The most glaring error they make is that the characters in the Handmaid's Tale would be horrified by abortion -- not just the rulers, but the handmaids and other oppressed women as well. The setup is that (before Gilead took over) something has caused fertility to drop precipitously; people are desperate for babies.

Yeah, the few nods they make to the other side seem like they are just accidents, like the writers forgot the point they were making. For instance, at one point they have the media refer to stuff that Starlight (Erin Moriarty's character) is saying as "unfounded conspiracy theories", when the audience knows it's true and besides, Starlight is one of the few "good" characters on the show.

Don’t new forms of energy come about over time?

We had wood, water and wind, then coal, then biological oil, then petroleum and natural gas, but by the time nuclear came along governments had gotten just barely big enough to strangle anything new in its crib. So no, we won't be getting any more forms of energy; we're stuck with what we have and once we lose it, we're just getting shortages.

The great part of this thread is it's three different languages. I accidentally used Danish instead of Dutch, TheImpossible1 properly used Dutch, and Gemmaugr used Swedish.

Yes to both, and probably a call from Mastercard and Visa is involved too.

Not a technical DDoS. Their claim is they dropped them because they got too many complaints that KF violated their TOS.

Not much of a DDoS company if they can't handle a social DDoS.

Russia has no claim to say what alliances Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, etc get to enter into; bordering Russia does not make them part of Russia.

Probably not. I wouldn't be surprised if Prince was threatened, but likely nothing that crass. More like "we'll remove you and you'll never work in this town again. Or any other town. Or so much as get a bank account"

Stalin had a snappy uniform but other than that his aesthetic sucked. Mao... forget about it. The Nazis did evil with the best style.
