Charlie Crist's running mate compared Florida under Gov. Ron DeSantis to 'The Handmaid's Tale'

No, they've never read it, and most of them haven't seen the series either. The most glaring error they make is that the characters in the Handmaid's Tale would be horrified by abortion -- not just the rulers, but the handmaids and other oppressed women as well. The setup is that (before Gilead took over) something has caused fertility to drop precipitously; people are desperate for babies.

I… Wouldn’t recommend that. Sure, it’s politically interesting, and knowing your enemy IS useful, but seriously, I… Would recommend against that, lol.
