I swear I've seen some older games at Best Buy that included the steelbook for free. Like they had a bunch left over from pre-sales so they threw them on the shelf with the game to get rid of them.

That would have been a far less wasteful solution here.

Ah, so complete bullshit then?

I have no doubt that as technology improves we're going to see more and more fake video out there, but you can't just hand wave away videos that you don't like without actually proving that they're fake.

the original videos of the performers exist and they are edited in to these settings.

Then produce them. It should be easy, since you make it sound like you've seen them.

Or they could have gone with Dragonlance. I actually knew some dipshit that said he changed his name to Raistlin in high school. IDK whether he went to court to do it or just stopped using his real name though.

I haven't read those books since I was a kid, but I remember liking them. I've heard that they don't age well if you go back as an adult. Still, between the books themselves, the game modules, and all the artwork and sourcebooks, if they had gone that route for the film, they would have had a huge head start on the screenplay and costume/set design.

I read an article that talked about how Hasbro claims the D&D brand is "under monetized", so we can expect to see more shit like this movie in the future.

Was anyone asking for a Dungeons & Dragons movie? Honestly, the Tolkien movies succeeded because there's a massive fan base for his stories. There may be a fairly large fan base for D&D the game, but by its very nature it lacks the memorable and beloved characters needed to drive the success they're probably looking for.

Ah, the old unnecessary increase in pigmentation gambit.

And Seth Rogan is trash. I've despised him ever since I read about a Twitter fight he got into with an everyday person or he tried to bully the guy into silence because of his status as a celebrity.

I have yet to see data that supports a net cost to the government/society for treating smoking related illnesses.

The Google says that smokers live 13 years less on average, which is 13 years less pension, Social Security, etc. Even assuming several years of end of life treatment, had these individuals not smoked, they likely also would have developed one of the numerous old age illnesses a few years later that are also expensive to treat.

Excessive taxation on tobacco is more the government's response to a price inelastic item. Simply put, they know they can tax the shit out of it and people will still buy it. In fact, if everyone stoped smoking it would jack up the government's budget pretty badly. Just look at places that have high gas taxes to fund roads- now that people are switching to electrics and hybrids they're buying a lot less gas and so the government is scrambling to find new ways to pay for it.

So, where do the non-Muslim women and non-cross dressing gay men go pee? And isn't that a strange pair to share a bathroom?

It is ridiculous. The intent of copyright, trademarks, and patents was to allow the creator to receive a profit for a period of time. The reason they expired after something like 20 years was to encourage the creator to keep creating rather than just have one big hit and rake in cash forever.

The original version of Mickey Mouse becomes public domain next year, but not to worry:

Even though the copyright will expire, Mickey Mouse is trademarked, which adds complications. The New York Times reported that trademarks do not expire over time like copyrights do. Essentially, this means that any use of the 1928 Mickey Mouse cannot include any elements that come later and cannot be confused as a Disney product.

TriangleGang 22 points ago +22 / -0

You can thank Disney for that. Every time their core characters start to enter public domain they lobby Congress to extend copyrights even longer.

They were either 20 years or the life of the author originally, I can't remember exactly. Now they last something like 100 years.

I believe it's still there overseas to match the drinking age in the host country.

It's less a matter of the military trying to be fair and more an issue of practicality: if the servicemen can simply go off base and legally drink anywhere they want, it will just clog the military legal system up with alcohol-related charges for something that would be legal for anyone other than the US servicemen.

I think it's quite obvious. She must be a highly proficient dicksucker or an incredible lay to get all those powerful and influential men to propel her forward all these years. She may be incompetent with everything else, but she definitely exhibits "excellence" in using that hook hidden in their pussies.

LoL. Powell's is an impressive store, especially considering how Amazon is making book stores extinct.

Canada and the rest of the Commonwealth countries are just a simulacrum of democracy. For all its faults, you can literally say anything you want to anyone in the US other than threaten violence, and government can't do anything about it.

Government censorship and criminalizing speech is one of the hallmarks of oppressive political regimes.

OK, I'm a racist. Was that supposed to make me feel bad, Canada?

Honestly, the word has lost all meaning since it's now defined as simply not ascribing to today's right think.

What a coincidence, I think we should kill everyone in the UK government!

I've never liked Target. They either sell the same brands as Walmart at a higher cost, or have store brands that are basically the same as Walmart's store brands.

I get that it's a classier atmosphere, but I'm not living in the place, I'm just there for 30 minutes to an hour to buy some things. I'll suffer through the weirdos at Walmart to save 10% or more.

I can't stress this enough. The call for people to be "color blind" in choosing elected officials, hiring, etc. only applies to white males. It's considered acceptable, or even laudable, for other races to openly advocate for more of their kind at work or in the office.

Yes, large scale warfare was waged in the 1800s and earlier, but that wasn't really my point. There's a vast difference between living in the 1800s and living in the 2020s and being reduced to 1800s technology.

For example: There are only a tiny handful of seaworthy sailing ships of the type that conducted commerce and warfare in the 1800s left in the world. There's probably even less people that have the requisite skills to crew them and there are zero people that have the requisite skills and tools to build them.

Wagon makers, blacksmiths, coopers, shoemakers, tailors, etc. are all professions vital to everyday life in the pre/early industrial revolution era that are effectively extinct. We no longer have machinery to forge metal or manufacture clothing without having an industrial electrical supply.

As to your belief in a limited nuclear war, we'll have to disagree. Once you start melting major cities, the other side is going to reciprocate with all they have if for no other reason than to take revenge.

Fuck! I love the Three Musketeers. The two movies from the 70's with Charlton Heston were great, but every one since has been a dud.

The Disney one with Chris O'Donnell was at least watchable, if not good. But the 2004 one that riffed off Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the 2011 one with Mila Jovavich are trash. I guess we can add two more films to the garbage list.

nukes are still localized enough that the most lethal effects are limited to a small area

That's not realistic. While the US and Russia may not cover every square inch of each other's country with nuclear explosions, there's no restraint in nuclear war. Every meaningful population center and piece of infrastructure will be destroyed. Nuclear detonations fry electronics, satellite communications and navigation will be destroyed. How will you gather, train and deploy an army drawn from across rural America (because that's all that's left) when your logistics are reduced to the same level as the 1800s?

17
TriangleGang 17 points ago +17 / -0

Russia has actually shown more restraint than I would have.

NATO/the US is basically playing a game of "I'm going to send arms to your enemy and there's nothing you can do about it cuz you don't want to go to war with me. Neener-neener."

Two can play that game. If I was Russia, I would have told NATO to back the fuck off, or I will send the very best anti-aircraft systems and nuclear weapons I had to Iran, Syria, and anyone else that's on the West's shit list and put them in the same position.

There's definitely a cut; her jacket goes from zipped to unzipped in the first few seconds of the video. I'm not sure if that matters, as it's before the guy shows up.
