I have a philosophy that purchasing games is only expected when you make it a better alternative to piracy. If piracy is easier/safer/more convenient, game companies like Steam should expect people to go that route.

Absolutely! I wouldn't have been able to raise my kids if my parents and inlaws hadn't both attended our church to help out. I wish my siblings were interested in getting the cousins together for more than just holidays but they still get together more than most cousins do.
Not to be a downer but even when they are "fired" they still get away with it because their work will continue to influence future work and the individual themselves will find another cushy, well-paying grift to take part in. This revelation will change nothing.
That's the sad thing about our current situation in the west. A group of people have made the system unstable and life for many unlivable. Young people who don't have sunk cost in the system to protect it recognize that the system is broken and that they are getting a raw deal.
That same group sets up a "counter culture" narrative to hijack the natural rebellion to the broken system by insisting that if we just break the system a little bit more, it will work and we will reach eutopia.
A lot of millennials and zoomers know that the (current) family structure doesn't work. Instead of being able to say, it's because we need to go back to a two parent household where one parent can be a caregiver to young children, it's that traditional families (which are remarkably rare) are what is broken.
A tyrannical government/global corporation/unelected bureaucracy micro-manages the citizens' lives to their own enrichment. Instead of being able to say, people should have more control over their own lives and global powers are too powerful and need to be broken apart, we need BIGGER government and MORE controls to fix the system.
Their instincts are still shining through the indoctrination, so we have to hijack them and turn them towards the hegemony.
I have season 1 of One Punch Man on my phone but it's subs, not dubs. Since I do most of my media consumption while driving cross country, I can't afford to read subs....

I don't do well with specifics but I'm kind of torn on this issue. It seems now EVERYTHING I watch has some little current year thing in it. Even if the overall presentation is good (Take Puss in Boots 2 for example), there will be one or two little things that make me roll my eyes because it is pandering (it seems).
But then looking at it in a meta sort of way, wasn't that the problem with SJWs back in the day? Now everything is pozzed, everything is globohomo and you have to point it all out? That doesn't seem to me to be the way I want to live my life.

All digital technology has this double-edged nature. There was a time that I was excited for an all digital future where an AI assistant helps keep track of your schedule and habits and helps you build a more sustainable life. Where you could seamlessly connect with like-minded people across the globe and where you can find anything you need to purchase or research instantly at your fingertips.
The sad reality is that any way that a group (government, private, or ngo) can use that to control you, they will. It will be used to surveil, manipulate, and control you. Unfortunately, anything that is taken out of the real world and centralized is going to be used by people who want to control people to control people.
