Normally I'd doubt it due to how low the production costs for TTRPG books are and the market share they have but I have heard that WoTC dumped way too much money into the development of their VTT which has failed to receive much adoption
It is possible they that they've gone into the red a few times as of recently.
I never touched Beyond until a friend of a friend invited me to an online game this year. That piece of shit doesn't have the capability to roll arbitrary dice expressions. You can roll dice alone, or make modified rolls if they're defined on the character sheet, but you can't roll "d6+2". They made a VTT with fewer features than Excel.
And as soon as an institution resists their infiltration, here comes the parade of exposes about the rape and abuses happening because progressive ideas weren't embraced, all written by journalists with suspicious last names...
I wonder if legendary creators Ed Greenwood and Tracy Hickman will be asked to mind meld with the gay orc aficionados
Also didn't some people attempt to cancel Gary Gygax over women or racism or something? Also skimming Gary's wikipedia, he apparently was a Jehovah's Witness and was a Christian after leaving the JWs. Never heard that before.
I really don't want to attack other Christians, however not believing in the triune God, no apostolic tradition, and the biggie denying the divinity of Christ, I don't think they are Christians.
Are they? They put a gay interspecies interracial couple, a pink haired lesbian, and a brown chick shitting out confetti from a stick. The only white guy is in the background hitting on a black woman.
I'm a bit surprised. Leftists have been the driving force for D&D and it was very successful.
Not necessarily players but just leftists larping as geeks. Try talking to one having a D&D hat about settings and they will look at you like Internet Explorer loading a picture over dialup.
Same people care not about any rules or rule change.
Is the buzz fading and larpers moved to something else? If anything Stranger Things season 5 should have given them a boost.
As for players, I always expected to be low effort with little investment.
How much of their profit is merchandise?
Is it the Chinese making cheaper and better looking miniatures and even merch like mouse pads or shirts?
Yeah I joined a tabletop club last year who also organizes D&D. All the people playing 40k and AoS are chill guys but pen and paper is just a complete freak show of noserings, blue hair and trannies. One wore a palestine shirt ffs. Recently I found the first online campaign by streamers that somehow is actually very enjoyable to watch
Bandwagoners and larpers likely left then. "Those" leftist types that are too selfish, lazy, non committal and too gay or weird that even other leftist don't wanna play with em.
The long term dnd players are still leftist, but look at the traits one needs to actually make it through a massive campaign.. you actually have to be a responsible adult that's easy to get along.
Meh, they'll double down because they think they need more "modern audiences". You cannot course correct when your whole organization has been replaced by activists.
Imagine caring about entertainment, you should be working all day, everyday, forever! Either for your wife, kids, or god. And no playing entertaining games with your kids doesnt count
Sales don't even matter when they can print all the money they need and upcycle the execs from any failed brand to a different corp in the same umbrella.
Worst thing is I actually went and searched how to spell that one then it got lost by the time I came back to type the comment. Thought I had written extant.
Unpopular opinion, he has a point. Don't get together with geeks to play make-believe as Sir Alpha of Chadsdale pretending to save an imaginary society when there are active clubs to join. The hour is later than you think.
Either games themselves are indefensible in which case, the "children's" modifier is a false face attempt at shame with no relevance other than word games, or you're going to have to define the difference between "children's" anything vs the same thing without modifiers.
You're also going to have to define it without saying "anything that isn't not aimed at children" since that's refernetial. And you also can't define it as "anything aimed at children" because that's self defeating.
I have no idea what you're trying to say and it sounds like we're having two separate discussions. So I'll say hobbies > escapism (gaming is not a hobby).
Fishing, hunting, repair and restoration, camping, backpacking, mountain climbing, river rafting - these are hobbies.
Gooning, doomscrolling, and bing bing wahoo are electronic goyslop.
What's the evidence that D&D is a dying franchise. Everything I can see, in terms of financials, seem to indicate that Wizards of the Coast is the best part of Hasbro, and that WotC is making a shit ton of money from D&D and Magic.
Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY made history as the best-selling Magic set of all time before its release date, so it comes as no surprise the highly-anticipated Universes Beyond expansion ushered in incredible sales and growth for the game. Magic: The Gathering revenue grew 23 percent*
However, beneath the surface, a turnaround is beginning to take shape. The company is in the midst of a strategic overhaul, and the early results are actually promising. Fueled by the incredible performance of its Wizards of the Coast segment, Hasbro is showing signs of life.
I would love for WotC to fail and D&D (in its current forms) to die. I've been burned too many times by YouTube clickbait "Kathleen Kennedy is FIRED -- will be out by next week" / "Kurtzman Trek is over, new series to return to classic Trek!"
I knew Magic was doing well. It's been the mainstay TCG as long as I've known and I doubt that's changing anytime soon. D&D though, not too sure about. No news might be bad news.
Leftists successfully pushed half of the players out of the TTRPG community. Now there's no one left for them to bully except each other.
And CTCGs
The scalpers helped with that one, too.
Is it actually losing money now that all the worthless faggot improve actors larping as gamers left?

Above VTT chrome extension is what we've been using for years now. Just great, super quick to set up too.

both D&D and MTG are suffering from this shit.
And as soon as an institution resists their infiltration, here comes the parade of exposes about the rape and abuses happening because progressive ideas weren't embraced, all written by journalists with suspicious last names...
Best part of it all? Once exploration of space takes off (pun intended) they will be denied their winning condition for all eternity.
My mtg group made a simple art rule that anyone can invoke at any time. The rule is quite rude.
Needs more gay wheelchairs...
I wonder if legendary creators Ed Greenwood and Tracy Hickman will be asked to mind meld with the gay orc aficionados

JWs are Christians. They're just... weird Christians. Kind of like how in Warhammer 40k, catgirls and lizardmen are considered "human".
That's what we call heretics.
I really don't want to attack other Christians, however not believing in the triune God, no apostolic tradition, and the biggie denying the divinity of Christ, I don't think they are Christians.
Too late.
Are they? They put a gay interspecies interracial couple, a pink haired lesbian, and a brown chick shitting out confetti from a stick. The only white guy is in the background hitting on a black woman.
Who are the saving it for in that picture
That's a pic promoting the infamous 2024 version that everyone hated. There's nothing from this new edition to show yet except rumors, apparently.
A picture published just a few months back. Are the people who thought that was a good idea still working at hasbro?
No idea, just clarifying that this picture didn't come from the alleged new team.
That's a female hitting in the black elf. The female black elf.
So it is. Geez they put a lot of the ghey in this pic
I'm a bit surprised. Leftists have been the driving force for D&D and it was very successful.

I had to put more diclofenac on my hand after reading that.

Meh, they'll double down because they think they need more "modern audiences". You cannot course correct when your whole organization has been replaced by activists.
Imagine caring about things that shape memetic and social fabrics. I prefer hiding under rocks, personally.
Imagine caring about entertainment, you should be working all day, everyday, forever! Either for your wife, kids, or god. And no playing entertaining games with your kids doesnt count
He's not wrong, it's pretty irrelevant when the "entertainment" industry is drowning in AI garbage (double edged sword maybe)
what does AI have to do with anything? market share effects culture, it doesn't matter how the products are produced as long as they sell.
Sales don't even matter when they can print all the money they need and upcycle the execs from any failed brand to a different corp in the same umbrella.
Sales indicate cultural impact you dipshit. If nobody is consuming the product then the cultural impact is nearly nothing.
Your username, RhodesianRidgeback, literally references a country that's been gone almost as long as D&D has been around.
it references a still existent dog breed.
extant
you're right.
Worst thing is I actually went and searched how to spell that one then it got lost by the time I came back to type the comment. Thought I had written extant.
Yes, a still existent dog breed that's named after a long-gone country.
Imagine having fun. Imagine smiling. Imagine enjoying anything.
Unpopular opinion, he has a point. Don't get together with geeks to play make-believe as Sir Alpha of Chadsdale pretending to save an imaginary society when there are active clubs to join. The hour is later than you think.
There's nothing to do.
So lay down and die then.
Basically where I am in life.
Medium wars are stupider than console wars and far older.
How is playing a children's game with other manchildren going to reverse the decline of society?
Either games themselves are indefensible in which case, the "children's" modifier is a false face attempt at shame with no relevance other than word games, or you're going to have to define the difference between "children's" anything vs the same thing without modifiers.

Essentially, define fish and then we'll talk.

Fishing, hunting, repair and restoration, camping, backpacking, mountain climbing, river rafting - these are hobbies.

Yup. You're retarded. Unsurprising.
Gaming is a hobby. Collecting anything is also a hobby. Like miniatures & stuff related to playing D&D.
"Imagine all the players / rolling D twen-ties! / You hoo hoo-oho can say that I'm a DM / but I'm not the only one" 😸

What indicators are you looking at?
It's hard to find numbers specifically for D&D, but Wizards of the Coast seems to be very profitable, primarily due to Magic.
2nd Quarter 2025, Magic: https://articles.starcitygames.com/magic-the-gathering/magic-grows-23-percent-behind-magic-the-gathering-final-fantasy/

Corporate products are just terrible.
