People repeat that all the time, that they've served their debt to society.
No they haven't. What have they done? Society is in the red to pay for their incarceration, and they've done nothing to contribute back. It's only now that they are free that they can even start paying that debt. 'Paid his debt' is just a mantra pushed by jail-lovers afraid of a bit of actual justice.
The problem is that "reform" at a certain level is impossible. A person who makes impulsive, stupid decisions will always be a person who makes impulsive, stupid decisions.
You might learn to avoid putting yourself in certain types of situations where your negative traits can compound themselves to catastrophe (e.g. impulsivity + drugs). As people age they tend to learn how to manage their worst tendencies. But your nature is basically unchangeable and always at risk of emerging without controlled conditions.
the punishment for nearly all felonies should be (and used to be) death. We used to kill people for stealing a horse, worth around 500$ in today's money.
Imagine a world that liquidated all car thieves. Instant 1000% improvement with zero downside.
That would be the world that created the high trust societies we used to be proud of. Europeans for thousands of years engaged in low-level eugenics and social darwinism to eliminate the weak and violent. Now we do the opposite, especially in Europe where they are whining about the death penalty and letting in hordes of Southrons to live among the pacified population.
"except as punishment for a crime"
many states (funnily enough, most of the blue ones) make forced labor involuntary for inmates. You can choose to work for pennies a day, or live in 'the hole' with no human interactions (the worst long term torture possible to humans)
The 13th amendment abolished involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime. Criminals should be doing dangerous, dirty, and low paying jobs until they actually pay off their debts to society. If they never get released, oh well.
Monetarily, then. You may work in prison for wages to offset your costs, and/or your wages upon release will be garnisheed. If you do not pay promptly, as established in precedent case law with family court and spousal support, back to jail you go. It is not forced servitude, somehow, according to lawyers.
What do they think? Generally, they don't think. Below a certain IQ, people constantly live in the now with no understanding of the ideas of past or future. So they straight up don't get why we're concerned with their record, yet another reason they shouldn't be on the same continents as us.
It wasn't even that they had a record though, it's because they lied about it!
Clearly a valid reason to fire them, but "lawyers" will smell $money$ eh?
Thats why they wanna change the system via equity and social justice. They want either more other races convicted or less of themselves convicted. Its why hypocricy and double standards run rampant on the other side.
Supreme court (I just looked it up, not a supreme court ruling, but the executive Equal Employment Opportunity Commission... paging Trump's pen and phone) rules that you may not discriminate in hiring, lending, and renting to someone based whether they have been convicted of a crime that minorities commit disproportionately. (Using the 1964 civil rights act as a basis).
So companies instead just ask people to list what felonies they committed and then don't hire them based on the fact that they almost always lie about it.
Well such disclosures are pretty common and if you chose not to truthfully disclose it on your application, why do you believe that your current work performance protects you?
What a surprising turn of events!
Sheeeit!
"having a record does not define you or your character"
what do they think it does then?
Maybe not? But lying about your record DOES define your character, that's for sure.
well, ideally serving time should be considered as you having served your sentence to society
In reality however leopards usually don't change their spots

how do you want them to repay it. Keep in mind forced servitude is not allowed by law
If we're talking US, there's an exception that applies, funnily enough.
"except as punishment for a crime" many states (funnily enough, most of the blue ones) make forced labor involuntary for inmates. You can choose to work for pennies a day, or live in 'the hole' with no human interactions (the worst long term torture possible to humans)
So if that’s the case then what else should be done to make them pay back their debt if they’re already being made to work

Lawyer would probably argue something about cruel and unusual punishment

Also the left thinks you should be nice to criminals because they are all criminals
Not working to get it expunged does define your character though.
"how dare a company fire people for criminal records, they must be racist for mostly firing blacks"
Or blacks tend to be disproportionately criminals? I dunno man.
It wasn't even that they had a record though, it's because they lied about it!
Clearly a valid reason to fire them, but "lawyers" will smell $money$ eh?
Ah, you now understand disparate impact.
Thats why they wanna change the system via equity and social justice. They want either more other races convicted or less of themselves convicted. Its why hypocricy and double standards run rampant on the other side.
I hope they enjoyed the riots and nigger worship of the past few years because the check is coming. Things are going to be much different.
Username checks out.
The "Dey ain't supposeda know dat!" Defense
Will be interesting to see if the victim card has expired.
Nigs feel entitled to be criminals. News at 11.
Good grief. I predict this will go nowhere.
afaik, walmart is very aggressive in fighting frivolous lawsuits. so yeah
Always been an amusing loophole to me.

I dont think they want to open the can of worms about what type of crimes minorities commit more of
You cant coexist with these people
How to tell you’re newly from Reddit without telling us.
Why do you expect so. Do you think walmart doesnt have a list any prior convictions in their applications?
Well such disclosures are pretty common and if you chose not to truthfully disclose it on your application, why do you believe that your current work performance protects you?
Do you need to be an attorrney to not have a retarded take on the law?
And what does the two have to do with each other?
