you might have noticed that the media has stopped reporting on mass shootings lately, over the past few years. it's not because mass shootings went down, it's because they were all done by leftists and trannies. THAT is the environment they're fostering.
Because the right has allowed them to do so. Not a full century ago this vermin was dying in the streets and in camps, now they're allowed to wield influence and power. It is natural to be vicious towards your opposition, but the right has been infiltrated and turned into a bunch of useless hippy faggots, you're doing it right now, grown man saying how he's ''terrified'' instead of waking up and realizing that you won't solve this problem peacefully, you're dealing with people who openly want you dead or miserable.
They're deeply cowardly and weak, any poster here except the X_XX guy could easily win a 3v1 fistfight with any random antifa guy, but that's not very reassuring when you've got 8 guys trying to stomp on your head.
It took me a while to get it just because of how dumb the point they are trying to make.
I fully believe tariffs have NOTHING to do with the price of the Switch 2, they got greedy as the games media have been filling the heads of studios that they should charge more due to 'the economy' as we all heard rumors of GTA 6 being $100.
But this bitch slap response by their own fans at the price made them shift HARD so they are probably trying to blame tariffs as a scapegoat to pivot when, if it goes to Japan/US going to zero tariffs, it should be cheaper then so they have no justification for their pricing.
I just hope we get another 3DS situation where sales plummet, Nintendo reads the room, and they drop the price to reasonable levels.
We can hope, they've weathered a lot of storms over the years by reading the room so hopefully they do the same again.
Same thing happened with the gamecube. It's like every other generation Nintendo has to learn this lesson
they're also one of the last major video game companies that has an actual loyal fan base. I can't think of a single person who actually likes Xbox, PlayStation, or EA, and Valve is games distributor instead of a game developer at this point. that lack of competition makes them confident in raising the price like this.
Which is what makes this community backlash SO important.
If Nintendo CAN'T get away with a price hike, Rockstar, let alone others like Bethesda when they EVENTUALLY release ES6 can't do it either.

The reality is that the price was decided no less than 3 years ago.
No company just cuts R&D loose to build whatever. There is always price at the heart of the design (cost + profit). There are compromises that can nudge things north or south, but that stuff was already hashed out before even the Republican primaries.
And Nintendo's pricing strategy is less a symptom of the economy and more about Nintendo not having "games people" in charge. Furukawa's ascension to president basically sealed the deal. No games experience other than accounting.
Considering it is more expensive in Europe when you look at the exchange rate, that would be true.

If the price were 24% higher, they'd have a point. At almost 100% markup, that isn't a tariff issue.
Nintendo is putting off preorders in order to maximize their own profits (if people pre-order too early, the US gov't gets the money due to the tariffs, not them, and the pricetag is going to be static, unchanging regardless of who is pocketing it, they did market research to see the max cost the market would bear), nothing more, nothing less.
...did they stop selling consoles at a loss? that was always the strategy in the past, sell the console at a loss, make it up in the games, accessories, and merchandise.
Nintendo has never adopted the razor blade model of selling consoles at a loss.
could have sworn they did. thought that was part of the reason they were able to emerge a leader after the games crash in the eighties, that and their willingness to buy back unsold copies of games from retailers.
They've also already imported hundreds of thousands of the things, so it'd be real nice to mark those up and get 50% more profit.

Nintendo doesn't own that Vietnam company, they contract. Foxconn owns it, I think. Anyway, there are loads of EMS companies that would probably offer excellent pricing to be THE Nintendo OEM in the Americas, like Jabil, Benchmark, Key Tronic, Zytech, and more.

even at 24% tariff set for japan it'll be approx $560 from $450 which they also got wrong.
But that's not going to be all passed onto the customers. You all know it but I'll be quick, I sell something at 100 bucks, new tariff set at 20%. It now cost 20 bucks more. I can set it to 120 dollars hoping my customers would accept the new price. If the customers decides to do without or by less, I'll have to set it to 110 or less and eat part of the tariff myself.
