When I was a ten year old, my mom would leave me at the electronics section while she shopped at Walmart. Sometimes alone, sometimes with my little sister. She was still in the building and she trusted us to stay put and behave, which we did. We got to play video game demos and read strategy guides instead of being dragged around with her, so why wouldn't we?

These days, I can't see me leaving my future kids alone the same way. First off, most stores don't have demos or strategy guides readily available anymore. :( But more importantly, even if I trusted my kids to stay put and behave, I can't trust strangers not to try and start something. Even worse, I can't trust strangers to try and stop something if a creep did make a move.

Shit, man. Same, those were the best of days. Playing around in the demo isle of target/wallmart with your sibling while the parents buy stuff. Shame kids now-a-days can't do the same.

I did it in 2012 but after that stores tightened up on loitering or locked everything up because blacks moved in.

Spending an hour or more browsing lego sets and toy guns at the big toy store next to the grocery store, while mom and dad shopped was not uncommon.

Yeah. When I was 10 (the 80's) my mom worked a 12 hour shift (6am-6pm) And she would leave me home alone while she went to work and would call me from work to wake me up for school. She would trust me to actually get up and go to school and I always did. And I would always come home and be able to be by myself until she got home because that's the kind of trust she had in me.

You sure as hell can't do that today.

At 10 you probably still can

I saw it in Muslim countries also. They would ask the brother to watch their sisters while the parents shopped at the Bazaar.

The fact that he had THREE and is still around is a miracle in and of itself

A very responsible 10 year old watching a 6 year old I can almost see, in a desperate situation. But never a 1 year old.

I'd say it would fuck those kids up for life, but given the circumstances of their birth from this type of failure father and just being black to begin with, its not like they had far to fall from the expected place.

For me it would depend on the 1 yr old and if he's recently had milk or not. Because most likely that one year old is staying strapped in a stroller and not moving by himself

At least this dude seems to be around

The 1 year old is also completely defenseless and incapable of any restraint at the minorest of problems, of which a 1 year old can have happen at any time just by being that age.

So in best case scenario yeah its just gonna sit there and maybe cry, no issue. But any amount of issues can arise that that 10 year old is almost certainly incapable of handling.

And I guess I can give credit that its a black dad actually out with his kids and going to a job interview. So he is breaking a lot of trends.

It is certainly a showing of how fucked their priorities are.

you left your kids alone and that's a bad thing? guess we are gonna arrest you and make them be alone even longer to show you not to leave them alone!

The one year old will probably be sitting in a stroller the whole 2 hours. If he's awake, either he'll have to have a toy to entertain him or the older kids will have entertain him. If he shits though he'll have to stay in it until the interview is done but that's arguably the case if they are home alone too

The 10 year old can run if shit gets serious.

The 6 and 1 year old cannot.

This is Atlanta. A black dude without a job can't find some kind of subsidized day care? Can't be a member of a church to get help?

My mum was watching her two younger brothers AND feeding the sheep and chickens, on her own, by the time she was 8. Kids these days, "fuck them up for life"? Teach 'em good farm labor!

Your mum lived in a high trust society that, sadly, no longer exists.

By the fact that they had farm animals around, that's a very different place to be left alone at (a familiar environment without many people) than a busy public restaurant in a high crime urban city. Like, night and day difference in ways things can go wrong.

And she was likely raised to be doing that already, meaning she had both the experience and maturity necessary to hold down such a situation. You think this kind of negro taught these kids anything of that caliber?

I think it's ridiculous to arrest this man for this. I don't think it's a great idea - if the baby needs their nappy changed or the six year old gets it into their head that running off to find dad would be a good idea, I wouldn't trust a ten year old to handle it - but if I was the police officer I'd encourage him to find a more robust solution if he gets the job and wish him luck with the job interview.

It's not just that the trust is lowered. It's fucking gone. You can more than likely know what your kids are capable of by now in a store if they're 7 or 8. That they won't start something stupid or get into trouble.

It's that you can't trust others not to do something stupid to your kids, and have others watch as it happens, and do nothing, while you're just trying to shop and get the hell out of there before things like that happen.

It's not just that we're no longer a high trust society, the trust is dead.

Who tf would kidnap 3 random black children? The cotton gin and the combine harvester have crashed the value of these things to zero. The father should be cited for littering.

Black kids are often the targets of Black paedophiles. It looks WAY less weird for a Black man dragging away a Black child than a White or Asian one, eh?

I was able to spend all day til night time unsupervised at age 10. I’m the youngest so didn’t have to watch younger siblings. Sucks he had nobody he could call or a church to reach out to. Assuming there isn’t anything else we don’t know I hope this won’t ruin him

>playplace

There are McDonald's that still have those? That's even less of a issue. Not like he left them at a table or something. But the 1 year old's iffy. Especially if the other two are playing.

As a follow-up to this story, it seems that this (~20 minute) job interview actually happened hours before the father left the kids at the restaurant.
https://archive.ph/Em7ws

"Furthermore, by his own admission, he was walking between McDonald’s and The Hendrix Apartments on foot during that period. The distance between these two locations is approximately 0.4 miles." [~.64 km]
Additionally, police determined "that a misdemeanor charge of Deprivation of a Minor was appropriate to ensure the welfare of the children and facilitate a review of the matter by the court. This charge ensures that all parties have an opportunity to appear before a judge to determine if the children are receiving appropriate care."

I think the CIA has to have on the job training, right? You've got to give new agents low scale and unimportant things to practice on, I'd bet.

Ya wonder if maybe that's what dumbshit like this is. Practice day at the farm.
