Zegler is now moving on to play the lead role in Evita in The West End from here, after a Broadway run of Romeo and Juliet. The question from here is whether Hollywood will continue to cast her in big films, given what a lightning rod she’s become, even if it’s been no fault of her own and she’s now been used as a scapegoat for what just isn’t a very good movie.

EXCUSE ME???

Not entirely false. This movie would have bombed even if she'd kept her mouth shut: it's just a terrible film.

But she did make herself into a lightning rod for controversy. That is her fault. And even after the studio told her to shut up, she refused, so now she is a Hollywood pariah. Also her fault.

The movie would have been bad, but she likely would have walked off unscathed from it. The alien face girl from Little Mermaid not too long ago did by being mostly quiet about the controversy and just letting the movie pass instead of trying to provoke people constantly.

It also probably did make the film do worse, simply because people then had a more vested interest in making it fail beyond just "this shouldn't exist." So there was more discussion about its problems, more focus on its various faults, and just more pictures of her which is enough to put people off the film.

Whereas most of us can only recall that one screenshot from Little Mermaid of her midsong, because it spoke for itself and people instead just laughed it off.

Yeah, Commie Feminist White wasn’t written by Zegler, it’s an objectively awful “retelling” and blaming her for being one retard in the sea of retardation that created this atrocity is them pretending they didn’t make absolute crap.

I don’t think it’d have bombed as hard because people would have gone opening weekend and had little reason to think it sucked going into it.

The casting alone says otherwise, it was always going to be snow brown with the retarded “bandits” and Gal Gadot whose only acting skill is showing skin.

I looked at ticket sales, it ain't review bombing, the people that actually saw this shit at cinema's are just warning others like warning a passerby there's a sinkhole ahead.

Movies have done poorly for years but somehow now it’s review bombing and toxicity. They can’t accept they made a movie people don’t want and the lead can’t shut up

The problem is they refuse to make movies with good writing. It's all about diversity instead.

Precisely why my rule of thumb is not to watch anything made after 2014 unless I get a recommendation from a trusted source

You know what I remember? People liking Blade. Turns out it was a good movie, with a great actor.

▲ 7 ▼
– Smith1980 7 points 1 year ago +7 / -0

Exactly. Blade was highly popular and he was seen as a really cool character. Really annoyed me how they marketed Black Panther as if no black person had ever been in a movie before. Heck, I know they weren’t marvel or dc characters but I thought blankman and meteor man were decent.

Funny thing is, Blade was a Marvel character, but comic book movies had such a bad reputation back then that none of the marketing mentioned it.

Dude, me and you have the same cut-off year!

That's my cutoff year in theory, but in practice I pretty much only ever watch things from like 2005 and earlier.

Late 60s to the end of the 90s is my Goldilocks zone and it's rare I watch something else.

So many great films from that era that I haven't seen yet.

Same here. In my area there are quite a few free over the air digital channels that show nothing but older shows. Lot of good movies prior to 60s as well. A great thing about the free streaming services is that they have a good library of old content.

Do they have ads?

The reason I stopped with Tubi is I'd be whisked away into an idyllic time and place like with the Andy Griffith show and then, boom, an ad pops up and it's full of all the modern racial politics and feminism and suddenly my blood pressure is rising.

It defeats the entire purpose of watching old shows when I get hit in the face with "THE MESSAGE" ™ every 12 minutes.

I would not mind advertisements at all if it were just some benign commercial selling you insurance with zero agenda...stuff like in the 90s, normal calm commercials that are inoffensive and chill.

Now commercials literally make me angry.

It's funny because I listen to AM radio now because Anthony Cumia is on WABC 77, and because it's a conservative station with likely an older audience, one of the commercials is one of Ryan Reynolds mobile phone commercials that I've seen on TV, only here, he talks in a calm, relaxing tone, like how I remember commercials being when I'd visit my grandparents.

He tones down his "ryan reynolds-ness" for the sake of catering to a different demographic, which lets me know that advertisers know how to be less obnoxious, they just choose not to.

Unfortunately yes. I just read during the commercials and tell myself it’s the price of a free service.

You're European right? I know that how garbage the culture is varies from country to country, so how woke is your country's TV?

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I'm mixing you up with another user, I think one that uses the name John Smith or something.

Did you listen to Cumia's first show back? He got to his first ad break and pointed out he hadn't had to go to break for 11 years. I thought it was funny. Sorry for the aside

Commercials are some of the biggest propaganda pushers. I'm constantly yelling at the tv.

They seem to thank a studio will make an objective level of a movie. And it's true to an extent, but a rating doesn't have to be objective. That's what really bugs me. It's these people determining what is or isn't fair to use in voting.

They would be fine if Black Panther got 10s for representation even though it wasn't an objective 10.

Shit movie, snow white isn't white at all, completely rewriting the story (again) because muh girl power, zegler (or however you spell it) is a cunt and nobody likes her, etc.

Turns out when you keep pumping out slop, people stop watching it because even normies can learn eventually.

they could have, in theory, gotten away with a much paler skinned latina woman, or even used that newfangled contraption called "makeup" to make ziegler paler.

ultimately, the problem was they miscast both parts. either gal gadot as the evil queen or rachael ziegler as snow white would have been fine, but not both.it gives the exact opposite contrast to what the story tells.

ziegler isn't even ugly, she just isn't more beautiful than gal gadot, which kinda flies in the face of the story.

– aloha_snackbar22 12 points 1 year ago +12 / -0

The new story isnt about beauty. "Fairest" in the context of the movie was about who was the most "fair and equitable", aka commie.

Also no, there is no version of Snow White in which Zegler would have been a "fine" cast, just as there is no version of Little Mermaid in which was okay to have a negress as Ariel.

You seem to have the hots for Zegler but no amount of simping will convince the world this random mid chick from downtown LA would pass as a white Disney Princess.

fine as in okay, not great, but passable..

You seem to have the hots for Zegler

lmao! no, i barely know her name. I'm just not gonna pretend she's hideous either. there's certainly prettier actresses our there, though, and gal gadot is certainly more attractive as many have pointed out.

They wanted to cast a brown chick, they're not going to make her white.

As far as Ziegler's looks she is mid, and not the kind of mid I like.

yeah, but if they got someone just slightly more less mid than her, rather than gal godot, they could have gotten away with it.

Rewriting this story didn’t even make any sense. It’s not a feminist empowerment movie. Snow White won over the Dwarves by cooking and cleaning for them.

This is tame by 2010s standards. The absolute worst was when there was a coordinated media campaign to claim that "Russian propaganda" made people hate Star Wars:The Last Jedi.

She had the choice to just stay quiet, do the movie, and move on.

Instead she chose her words poorly, forgetting how replaceable everyone is.

If by some unseen force we continue to see her, she's more than likely going to have handlers from now on, and no one will go off script again.

She fucked herself in this one, and there's no way out.

She could have tossed the first one off as 'oh yeah, I was so nervous I was saying really dumb things.' 'First interview jitters.' 'bullshit fake reason number 3', etc. Who cares. Just say you were wrong and shut up. But instead she double dipped and annoyed everyone around her.

People are just sharpening their knives now, waiting for her back to turn. And it won't be the big bad meanie bad reviews that hurt her.

I didn't see the film, because it got such bad reviews and because a children's fairy tale has little appeal to me as a grown man. Politics had nothing whatsoever to do with it.
