I don't know many Sanderson fans are around here, but for those who don't know, the 5th book of the Stormlight Archive just came out. I'm about halfway through it and there is so much shoehorned woke garbage in it.
One character is suddenly gay, like Kaiden in Mass Effect 3. There are all these references to transgenderism, which hasn't existed at all in this universe until this point. All of it is so jarring and out of place. I guess Sanderson has been spending too much time on reddit.
I just want one thing I can enjoy.
This is why I prefer reading dead authors.
...preferably from before the 20th century.
Gays? Transgenders? Written by a Mormon??
He took the ticket a while back. The world is his master now, not Christ.
Just send him this:

Paragraph two:
He was Mormon, Christ never had his heart.
You might not be aware, but mormons are among the most pozzed denominations these days.
They aren't a denomination as they aren't Christian
Christ literally in the name of the church.
And Anti-Fa is called what they are and yet they don’t match their name.
That's a false analogy fallacy.
Yet it isn't Christian, almost like deceivers can call themselves whatever they want. Mormons are cultists following an insane grifter
We follow the King James version of the Bible and Jesus Christ is the core of the religion, so I really have no idea where you're getting that but I shall pray for you.
You follow the false prophet Joseph Smith and his crazy book of Mormon which he translated form some magic golden plates
I suppose you think the People's Republic of China is both a Republic and by the people.
That's a false analogy fallacy.
That's a fallacy fallacy.
Unfortunately, I have to agree. If I had to guess, it's because of the "church of nice" mindset that is so pervasive in Christianity these days and LDS seems to be worst about it.
Fuck!
I have enjoyed Sanderson.
It's weird, too, because if I've got my authors right, I believe he's Mormon, and he got hate for that from the usual retards. So even though he wasn't explicitly anti-woke, he got lumped in on Our Side just because they hate him for his religion.
Real shame to hear he cucked, especially partway through writing a series I enjoy.
Essentially he just says the Mormon church is wrong and he's right, so it's totally fine he disagrees.
He bent the knee
I enjoy Sanderson, I'm sorry to hear he's fallen to the dark side
Thanks for the heads up. I was waiting for that one, nm now. If anyone is interested in scifi i read 2 of 3 and are quite good Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
His writing quality dropped sharply with era 2 of mistborn. The last book was so bad I quit it midway. I won't touch anything else if his now, not just because of his coming out for woke, but because he sucks now.
His writing has seemed a little...Joss Whedon-y lately for sure.
I had that series on my list to read. So it’s not something quick and they move on with the story? That sucks
I read the first two or three, and it is good. I still definitely recommend, just maybe avoid the fifth, I guess, if OP is correct. But, yeah, good series, what I've read of it.
I hesitate to say avoid it altogether. The good parts are still good. Just know what you're getting into.
Thanks!
mentioned it elsewhere... Asmongold is right on this...
these people run out of gas and can't get funding anymore. so they turn to the ESG funbucks which are super easy to get, but it's a deal with the devil. you're fine to tell your story, as long as it involvesgay sex, trannies, miscegenation, incompetently baffoonish white male villains, and women who are so fat/ugly they might as well be trannies.
simply put, woke implies the content was shit in the first place, so they sold out to the easiest money they could get... the larry fink (marxist CEO of blackrock) faggot lobby. and people like fink are happy to do it because he's just spreading his communist bullshit everywhere. if the franchise survives pushing his extremist agenda, great. and if the franchise dies, it's one less thing for his extremist agenda to compete with.
It doesn't fit for Sanderson though. He has F.U. money after that 30 million dollar+ Kickstarter. This has to be more of a degeneracy or 'please accept me' plea to the coastal shitlibs in mainstream publishing. He wants accolades from those people.
Sanderson sucks! I read one of his old books and hated it! I wasn't surprised he would go full blown woke later!
I thought this was old news?
He's been showing signs for a little while, bullshit said in interviews and on his website in the last year or two. But I think this is the first time it's trickled down into his actual books.
There was one tiny phrase in The Lost Metal (came out in 2022 I think) where he wrote "women and men" instead of the usual "men and women" and I knew it was just a matter of time.
Funny how one little thing like that can tell you a lot.
He's been showing signs of it since Mistborn.
I believe he also recently updated his website and did an interview about being pro every gay woke thing in existence. He should be excommunicated from the Mormon Church and banned from teaching courses at BYU because of this. Complete sellout fag.
He was the one that took over for Robert Jordan, right?
That stinks to hear, dude. Fucking woke nonsense.
When he defended the abortion that was the amazon tv series, I knew he'd lost the plot.
Agreed
Oh boy... My sister has been ragging on me to read the books. I've enjoyed the Stormlight Archive so far, but I got hung up on the dumb politics tearing all the good guys apart. I know it gets better, but it just killed my motivation to continue.
I did the Mystborn Graphic Audio series and it was pretty good. I don't know how much I would have appreciated it without the full production...the 2nd series was super disappointing and I haven't done anything from him since.
Just started the Last Kingdom series after finishing the Warlord Saga by Bernard Cornwell and can't recommend enough.
I loved everything you just mentioned. If you like fantasy, I'd recommend The Wolf (trilogy) by Leo Carew. If you also like sci-fi, I can't recommend Red Rising enough.
Will add those to the list. I have Steven Erkison's Malazan Book of the Fallen series queued up. Any opinion on those?
I have heard great things and I have heard bad things, but I've never taken the plunge. I think everyone, whether they love them or hate them, says it's very long and it can be really difficult to keep track of all of the characters. I do plan on at least reading the first book someday
That's kinda what drew me to them. I was told there is no hand holding, and you really have to extrapolate information that he does not plainly give you. Seemed interesting.
Yeah it definitely sounds epic and I like books like that, but I usually space them out because they're more of an effort to read. Like War and Peace, Les Miserables, the Count of Monte Cristo, etc I really loved them but I had to read other books while working through them cause there were many times when I just needed a break lol
Everything woke turns to shit.
This will be the big conversation at the sci Fi writers meet up. It's heavily Mormon, and Sanderson is friends with everyone.
I found his work tedious, needlessly drawn out, and boring. But he was never woke.
I was always embarrassed that his fat ass and high pitched voice was the poster boy for wheel of time fans.
Do you know if he's the one that wrote in Cadswain the gurlboss, or was she from Jordan?
All the women in WoT are gurlbosses based on Jordan's nagging wife. There's basically only one female personality, except Bridget who is just written as a man.
He's a Mormon isn't he
I remember him shoehorning the gay shit in either book 2 or 3 when he made one of the bridge runners suddenly gay and gave some ridiculous statement about how there can be nothing manlier than a man that's attracted to men
Look to pulp for good, non-woke literature
I'm not joking when I say I was skeptical of Brandon when he said Crossroads of Twilight was an underrated book. Crossroads was absolute shit and that take alone made me completely ignore his work on the Wheel of Time and everything he's made since. Glad to be vindicated.
If you were following WoT before, the change in style is noticeable but it's still Jordan's story in the end- it's worth getting to the finish line.
Truly unfortunate. I was interested in checking him out since a friend of mine kept telling me...
Mistborn is great. The first book of the storm light archives is fantastic (at least half the story from the male protagonist's perspective), but he really dropped the ball after that
If mistborn's still good I'll have to check it out, I have the first audiobook(I listen a lot to audiobooks when about to working out).
I'd honestly put it in my top 10 best fantasy series pretty easily, maybe even top 3. Brian Sanderson used to be a talented and creative writer, but he unfortunately became a bit derivative with his later works and became ridiculously woke.
then make it, or fund people who seem like they could make it. there is no future in which we keep throwing our money and attention at people who like to ruin things we enjoy yet can expect them to eventually put something good out.
I wish I hadn't heard about this
