It's the Netflix special. I didn't watch the first season, but some people seemed to like it, despite some race swapping and stuff. I'm assuming it was relatively decent, and apolitical. That's how they often operate in the first season of a new show. Then they hit you with full woke/communism/TDS in Season 2.
And with Stranger Things season 3 they were gonna have that guy and girl at ice cream shop be romantically involved which would’ve been an homage to the reformed jock and nerdy girl trope but they needed to subvert expectations and make her gay

For Stranger Things, it was season 3. Little bit of girl power in the second, but the third was a mess.
For Voltron, it was the last, and completely unnneeded, last season.

The first season of a given media, if not shitty, will be made shitty in season 2.
I can't think of a single thing they've done in the last decade that's worth watching beyond season 1.
