Yeah, I still had a standard definition TV when I rented it and actually doing the missions was impossible because I couldn't read the prompts. So I just ran around killing zombies the whole time.
The original was probably one of the strongest examples of "tech advancing faster than the consumers" and that devs have no idea anything about the common person.
Because that's the same story most people had, unable to read shit because they didn't have 40 inch HD tvs in their bedroom, mixed with the "if you play one of the game modes you will brick your Xbox before you finish."
The original Dead Rising was not a very liked or popular game when it came out, and its only when the sequel came out (along with the necessary time for more functional 360s and more common better TVs) that people gave it a second glance and appreciated the game itself.

Putting a mode in the game that takes the RROD chance rate from like 40% to over 70% if you finish it is basically forcing it to brick itself.

I understand this is effectively a pre-emptive rejection of the new remaster, but isn't rushing to buy the original before it (inevitably) goes down still rewarding them for killing it?
It's still a good idea to get it while the getting is good, just use other means if you can.
Well, I mean sure. But if you don't have it, and you want to play it, and you know they're getting rid of it, the alternative is piracy. That's always an option, though.
There's also purchasing the console versions second-hand, but you actually (probably?) need the console for that and it's not really worth it for one game.
Buying the old version on steam is still 110% better than buying the remaster, and might even send a message. I just hate the idea that this shit practice of removing games will reward them with FOMO money, and want to remind people that other avenues exist.
You could also try yard sales, swap meets, and pawn shops if you want it on the cheap.
It was mostly a 360 game (might have been exclusive at the time) so it plays on basically any Xbox console. The backwards compatibility feature makes it worth it to own something like an Xbone for a lot of these situations.
Interesting. I know Sony has been very inconsistent on backwards compatibility and I assumed the same to be true of Xbox.
Literally the only thing that has kept Xbox in the market and selling consoles is their insane commitment to backwards compatibility. Starting during the Xbone's lifetime they were releasing regular updates to the console to get old games working on it. I think by this point the vast majority if not all Xbox games from original to current work on the latest console, and an Xbone before it ended its life was already at most of them.
Its probably one of the only "pro-consumer" moves any of the Big 3 makes, because they aren't really re-producing the games to monetize it and its mostly a purely pro-physical ownership move.

This game was never that good. Remaster it all you want, but it was one of those games that made a lot of mistakes that other games had to learn from. Short of rebuilding some very annoying game mechanics, this won't be as successful as the resident evil remakes.
Left 4 Dead came out two years after this and made it obsolete unless you're extremely into tongue-in-cheek stuff like running on top of the zombies' heads or in-game cosplay.
Nothing in common with Dead Rising except zombies and survivors which describes about a million games.
In as far as hordes of zombies got with the technology of the time and coordination of the AI and general variety.
Also because they didn't become zombies from a bee sting.
Its a dumb arcadey game that's biggest claim to fame was the sheer amount of random shit you can interact with and just being an early "Next Gen" game.
It has nothing to do with L4D. Its a game where you put on a Servbot head and run around hitting golfballs into zombies in your underwear before you shoot a clown juggling chainsaws.
Its not a great game by any means, but then every sequel got worse and worse so clearly they never learned a thing. And yes DR2 was worse, fight me.
