Woman who was shown on ESPN eating ice cream, is whining about being sexualized (archive.ph)

Still makes me sad to see what has happened to ESPN. That was a great channel for guys once and I used to watch shows like the sports reporters and cheap seats. Loved the reruns of the home run duels they would show when I was a kid. So cool seeing Willie Mays vs Mickey Mantle.

I was watching the channel regularly up to the point when Around the Horn ended the show lecturing about kids in cages. That was the last straw after constant racial and political discussion

I remember my last straw was on the morning show with Stephen Smith and Max Kellerman were mad that Tiger Woods took the evil step of saying you don't have to respect Trump as a person but you should respect his office. They thought it was a terrible opinion and far right but it's such an innocuous opinion.

I know and what did have have to do with sports. You remember that press conference Tiger had after winning a tournament where the reporter kept asking him about Trump until Tiger said do you have any golf questions because if not I want to eat lunch

Even the sports media had to provide the liberal bona-fides

It got so bad the head of espn had to tell them to shut up about politics. I miss 80s/90s ESPN

I remember when that was a huge talking point during the Obama years. "Fuck the guy, but he is still the president and you should treat that with respect." I heard it quite a lot from centrist types and normies.

Just another example of how far the window shifted when TDS came into play.

Mine was the constant coverage of Michael Sam. You would have thought he was the next Michael Strahan.

I know! The draft being all about a 7 th rounder was absurd

"I didn't ask to be on TV. In fact, nobody asked us to be on TV," she pointed out.

Leaving aside the whole sexism nonsense, she ain't wrong about this. Focusing the camera on some individuals, for whatever reason, who are in a stadium for 20 seconds is pretty stupid.

I'm sure there's a more nuanced way to say this but I ain't that smart, but if you go to an event that will be televised there should be an expectation of being filmed. I can understand that not everyone wants to be filmed, but what's the solution? Should we blur crowds unless the fans agree to be on television?

You can pan the crowd without zooming in and lingering to single someone out.

It has room for nuance. Everybody likes seeing home run balls being caught or given to kids.

It's been almost 30 years, but I'm still mad about this one:

That's why I stressed the 20 seconds. It may not be great that there is an 'expectation of being filmed', but it usually not individualized (the camera shows a crowd) and when it is, it shows people for just a second or so.

Even though this is probably not illegal, I don't think this is cool. But then again, as a European, I'm more of a stickler for privacy and all that than is common in America.

Focusing on funny or interesting looking people for a long time is pretty common at American baseball games at least. Any time I've gone I found myself hoping they don't put me on the big screen. But some people like it.

I disagree that CCTV everywhere Europe expects more privacy than an average American.

They don't care about privacy as long as the government is the one doing the spying.

It's worse in some places (e.g. the UK) than others, but good point.

Still, the CCTV isn't being broadcast everywhere. It's just for our safety, just like illegal spying and all the other pleasant things the rulers do.

But if you walk into a space where it's explicitly a known possibility, whose fault is it when it inevitably happens? Stop trying to erode personal responsibility. Or are we going to continue down the path of infantilization where we insist people, especially women, don't actually have agency?

But if you walk into a space where it's explicitly a known possibility, whose fault is it when it inevitably happens?

'Possible' is not the same as 'inevitable'. Hell, how often does it happen that the camera zooms in on two specific people for 20 seconds? It's a vanishingly small possibility, if that, so yeah, it's the fault of the people who did this.

Stop trying to erode personal responsibility

Wow, that is a new definition of 'personal responsibility', that people have the right to film and broadcast you to the world, and that you can't even say anything about it.

Or are we going to continue down the path of infantilization where we insist people, especially women, don't actually have agency?

I'll go down the path of saying that this, and your 'Kiss Cams' for that matter, are remarkably stupid and should not even be allowed.

'Possible' is not the same as 'inevitable'

It is inevitable that it will happen to someone. Just because there's a chance it will happen to someone else doesn't make it merely possible, only that it's possible for you personally to be effected. But also, being exposed to that environment over and over and over only leads to an eventual inevitability. And let's not be delusional, with the increase in mobile phones and other such systems, that possibility is ALWAYS present.

Wow, that is a new definition of 'personal responsibility', that people have the right to film and broadcast you to the world, and that you can't even say anything about it.

Fuck off with the disingenuity of this. If you enter a space with a known risk, that's YOUR fault. Plain and simple. THAT is personal responsibility.

I'll go down the path of saying that this, and your 'Kiss Cams' for that matter, are remarkably stupid

That's fine. I think they're stupid too. But they're a normal aspect of those environments. You put yourself in that environment, you're the one running the risk of being on camera. It's legitimately on you. It's weird that you want to avoid personal responsibility. Don't want to be recorded? Don't go into environments that have a high likelihood of being recorded. It's that simple.

and should not even be allowed.

Ah yes, the good ol' "I don't like this so it should be eliminated" plea. Tell me you're a European without telling me you're a European.

but it usually not individualized

What the fuck are you talking about? That happens all the time. What do you think shit like Kiss Cams were?

But then again, as a European, I'm more of a stickler for privacy and all that than is common in America.

What the fuck are you talking about? Europe openly has mass public surveillance and mass public compliance. Maybe you as an individual is more of a stickler for privacy, but not as a European.

Something no one in Europe has ever heard of, mercifully.

Europe openly has mass public surveillance and mass public compliance

Multiple things can be true at the same time. People here love to be slaves but also not to have their personal information or image broadcast to the whole world.

People here love to be slaves but also not to have their personal information or image broadcast to the whole world.

So it's cognitive dissonance then? You're fine with privacy being infringed upon at every point, so long as your privacy isn't infringed upon in a very specific way.

You're fine

I didn't say 'I', but maybe you meant the plural.

with privacy being infringed upon at every point, so long as your privacy isn't infringed upon in a very specific way.

Many people have the foolish belief that the government is illegally spying on us for our own good, and all that.

Considering you're using the "as a European" as a defence, you get to stand "as a European". Don't like it, don't bring it up next time. Or wait, is that some personal responsibility.... Gee, maybe I shouldn't even be allowed either. Nah, stand by your words and actions and stop acting like a child.

I noticed you posted on a place called "Impstradamus" and wouldn't you know, it was another faggy little argument chain with Imp like what used to frequent this forum.

That's not "his forum". That's something I created to post his predictions, because they're good. Unfortunately, he was banned for a long time soon after I created it, so there's not much there.

A few days ago, he suddenly posted to one of them to declare victory, and I responded to that. I fail to see what is so weird there.

I'm asking if you could keep your faggoting contained to that board so we don't have to see retarded shit like you crying about a camera focusing on somebody in the audience of a baseball game

So... you asked to not be exposed to opinions that you don't like. You may be in the wrong place then.

Used to be women would be embarrassed to leave the house looking like that.

My immediate thought is that almost no one would have attached it to her in any way if she did not go attaching her face to it. Honestly, I do think it's kind of weird to focus the camera on random people in the crowd (unless they're obviously holding a sign/in a costume/etc.) but I don't think it's an issue worth making a stink about.

And, again, if you're embarrassed by it, don't make a Tik Tok attaching your fucking name to it. You can't convince me anyone was approaching her going "hey, I know you! You're that ice cream eating girl!" At most she probably got teased by a friend or two.
