I've never been to therapy but what I heard is that's only how therapy works for women. For men they gradually convince you that you are indeed a piece of shit male, and you need to accept that and do better so you can man up and help the nearest woman.
That would require competence on the part of the therapist. As someone who did most of a decade of schooling/training in the field I can promise you none of them are that smart or devious. Marriage counselors are only capable of it because the other woman is there to lend her brain to the sisterhood.
In seriousness, 90% of them are "ah-ha!" therapists. Their entire thing is to get you to have a "discovery" moment that unravels all your problems from there. In women this is easy, she just discovers someone abused her and boom done she is validated. For men it doesn't so they just keep getting worn down by the attempting until they a mountain is made from a molehill.
Also "Man Therapy" as a specialized field is one of the most legit things they ever produced. Just you and another guy going out to do an activity they specialize in (lifting, fishing, camping, etc.) and talking while doing it. So you know, a way guys can actually improve their mental state by feeling productive.
But it gets no talk because it undermines basically the entire rest of the field, so it remains this little nugget of wisdom you have to know about it to seek it out.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a better world...but the problem comes from not being able to acknowledge basic truths, and thus starting with a very faulty premise, so your "solution" will never work. For example, if you start off with "people are inherently good," communism seems great. But if the foundation were true, you wouldn't need to fix people via communism. It's just not grounded in reality. Imposing a different system on people won't change human nature. And the left does this same pattern over and over, of starting with a faulty foundational premise.
There was that poll from a few years ago that showed more conservative people would tolerate and befriend people of non-aligned politics, while liberals polled they couldn't be friends with different politically minded.
Same goes for understanding. Assuming you believe polls, conservatives are much more capable of understanding the basis for an opposing argument they disagre with than the other side side.
More than that, conservatives view politics as a bargaining table between different groups of people so we can figure out how to co-exist and not murder each other. Whereas progressives approach politics as a surrogate religion, because they're either atheists or atheists-in-denial.
