It was never about the environment. Forcing inferior products on people in the name of the control was always the game here.

Ima tell my story cause it never gets old.

I hate paper straws so I bought myself an official reusable cup w/plastic straw and lid from my local Tim Hortons (coffee shop).

Whenever I bring it in for an iced cappucino, they make it in a disposable plastic cup and lid, then pour it in my reusable cup and throw it out.

Literally, all I save by using the "reusable" cup is the paper straw, lol.

Still worth it to not have to use those piece of shit straws.

I would not be surprised if half of it was because it saved them something like 0.1 cents per straw and gave them a higher ESG score, and half for the demon possessed being able to leech even more chemicals into people.

It's about optimizing their formula to provide the absolute minimum amount possible for each individual to maximize profits per capita, and one element is getting people used to the idea of accepting decisions which negatively impact them. Because the entire global economy is run upon the fundamental concept that profits trump absolutely everything else. The "climate emergency" would be easy to solve if we were willing to sacrifice profits as a society.

We replaced straws with masks and plastic bags with the even thicker plastic bags amazon uses to ship stuff. Which are less re-usable than plastic bags because they can't be used as trash can liners.

Not to mention all the stupid fucking 'reusable' bags that people forget at home but probably never wash as they use it for both raw meat and produce. You know, the ones that are make really shitted and likely won't last more than a few years and be tossed out if it ever gets a rip?

What's worse is if I try to bring my backpack into the store as a true reusable, they think I'm stealing from them. I guess I could leave my backpack up front, but then somebody would be stealing from me. (Even if I left nothing in it, I can see someone walking off with it hoping.)

One of my favourite things about living in Poland is that I regularly walk into the store with a backpack and they don't think I am stealing. I regularly leave things at the front of the store--even full bags of groceries so I can go back into the store and get something I have forgotten--and I have never been stolen from. I don't lock up my bike at the front of the store; I still have a bike.

Fuck you guys, my ethnically homogenous country works and yours is shit.

Yes, the cause is niggers.

However, I have not the enmity (hate) towards your country.

Just like the Japs, not letting dissidents and non-conforming assholes into your country is actually a good thing

Lot to be said for an ethnically homogenous country. Would you say petty theft is common at all in the big cities there, or is it still relatively rare even then?

Petty theft exists in the large cities, and somebody tried to mug me once but generally--that sort of crime exists everywhere. But the levels of it are the lowest in Europe, and one can generally go wherever whenever here and be assured that nothing is gonna happen.

This is baseless fearmongering, sourced mainly from a """study""" funded by the American Chemistry Council who represents disposable plastic bag manufacturers.

I've been using the same filthy reusable bags for over a decade and the only times I've gotten sick has been from restaurants.

And require about 10k uses to be as viable as plastic bags for “environmentalism”

Yeah, we have these here, too…

They mostly just end up tossed out, especially by younger people, lol…

Inc the freezer bag version.

Which makes the entire thing rather pointless, sadly…

Anybody remember back in the day when paper bags were banned in grocery stores because it was killing the Amazon rainforest or some shit like that?

Now, plastic bags are on their way out, because forever chemicals. And now what do you know, paper bags are on their way back in!

Paper straws are terrible so I'm all for getting rid of them. But it's clear they are really abusing that "sustainable" buzzword. It doesn't mean anything.

There can be no such thing as "sustainability" with an ever-increasing population, because that in and of itself is not sustainable in the long run, unless you truly have Star Trek tech and can spread humans to dead, terraformable planets.

TL;DR:

"According to the study, paper straws contain poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) which are long-lasting and potentially destructive to human health with too much exposure"

""PFAS were found to be present in almost all types of straws, but primarily in those made from plant-based materials." "

So in plastic straws too.

Metal straws are best, plus you can sharpen them to John Wick someone I guess.

Filtered cigarettes still not banned. They're far worse than any amount of straws you can talk about.

Thing is: they’ll just ban those, too…

They would have done so already, if not for “disabled people need straws” (true in some cases)…

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if all disposable straws become a rare commodity, in coming years…
