Until hallmark bent the knee they got regular attacks. Capitalism also means knowing your audience. White middle aged or elderly traditional women is the Hallmark or Great American Family Audience. Women like seeing women falling in love with men. They can rage over that all they want but they it is what it is. If someone thinks there is a market for secular Christmas movies or lgbt Christmas movies then go ahead and make it.

I’m happy to say Great American Family is doing very well. I downgraded my cable and got rid of some apps but got the FrndlyTV app due to its large number of channels with classic tv shows as well as Great American Family channel. I definitely want to support them.

Proud that my wife dropped hallmark channel for great American channel

No more gay shit. Very few forced diversity

Nothing wrong with minority characters here and there but I hate this mentality that it’s bad to have a majority white show or movie. The main audience is traditional white Christian women. Nothing wrong with catering to that audience. I watch it because it’s nice to see Christian themes

Secular Christmas is an oxymoron

True. I couldn’t think of a specific word to describe non Christians who celebrate Christmas from a secular aspect. Like they decorate and give gifts and stuff

It's just denial. Secular Christmas is obviously real or he wouldn't have a clue what you're talking about. Western Christians haven't figured out how to live on the cultural fringes yet, and obstinate pedantry is just a poor way of coping with it.

Finding a formula that works and running with it until you run it into the ground is not exclusive to Hallmark either, it's also a Disney trait.

Secular jewish Christmas romances for sad post-wall lonely women. It works like a charm, no innovation required.

The real sad part?

I've seen the TV viewership ratings. People watch these.

The reason Hallmark Channel keeps making these stupid movies is because people keep watching them.

Then again, I hate the Hallmark Channel for other reasons, like censoring Frasier.

My wife likes them. They’re just fun; not something you’re meant to take too seriously

But swapped from hallmark to GAC for less diversity and gay shit

Which is why I would love to see lefties and these creators fight.

They’re just fun; not something you’re meant to take too seriously

And yet every single one follows the formula of:

  1. Woman with man who doesn't listen and respect her shitty dreams of opening a flower pattern t shirt business or doesn't care about the town's Christmas pageant she wants to run

  2. Old feminised friend rocks up

  3. Woman talks with her girl friends, who'll encourage her to stay the course marry her man.

  4. He says something unaffirming or something, something the old friend who only ever listens would never say.

  5. Woman leaves the man and gets with the old friend who's now attractive for listening or something.

These shows have women constantly exposed to a message of move on, he's not right cause he doesn't validate everything you say. Hallmark is not healthy.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as they say. It's not like these are the only movies to exist, anyway. This is the same kind of nonsense as complaining that every fast food joint has their own kind of chicken sandwich.

Subject in question aside, there's been nothing more infuriating that watching a business that's been trucking along just fine for over a decade suddenly decide to try something 'new, innovative' and close up shop a few months later.

I see it mostly with restaurants, but I'm sure you could find it elsewhere if you looked for it.

They're all from the same company. They stuck with a formula, who cares? You don't always have to innovate within a product, that's like complaining that all of a company's milk tastes the same, or something.

Also, you can just look at the design and determine why it was done that way. They're Christmas romances; they're going to have Christmas colors and themes, and be focused on that aforementioned romance. So you're going to have a man and a woman, the color red, Christmas decorations, snow, etc.

It's not my thing, but there's certainly an audience for it, so it makes sense.

The only surprising thing is all of the women are in red and all the men are in green. I would've expected at least one with the colors swapped. Perhaps they exist, and this was cherry-picked far harder than necessary.

It's old fashion sense. When you're trying to be more traditional, the men usually wear darker colors - notice that they're all wearing dark green. Somehow it highlights their masculinity. Most of the women are wearing bright red, to try to look more youthful. Darker colors on women either make them more sensual, or more maternal, and that uncertainty is why women were traditionally more careful with them.

I don't know why any of it works that way, but it does. The women who self-insert into these movies probably play at heterodoxy, but when it comes right down to it, it works on them. To quote RLM, "You may not have noticed, but your brain did." I'm certain whoever did the advertising was well aware of that.

Well-off office woman is sent to redneck central for a project, meets ruggedly handsome small-town guy. They hit it off. Her office project does evil stuff to the community, causing drama between the two. She defies her employer and does something good for the community, she and the guy make up and get romantic. The end.

Note: sometimes, the roles are reversed, but that is essentially the plot of at least 75% of Hallmark romances.

Same. I like all the manly stuff but I do enjoy a romance every now and then and I’ll happily support stuff that doesn’t think I’m an evil person. If y’all don’t have it yet, get Great American Family

So if you do a search filter among the hundreds (thousands?) of Christmas movies available to only list cherry picked ones from a specific company, you can find that their posters look similar.

How many Christmas movies were available in the USSR?

These people are so goddamn stupid.

Hallmark is to women like porn is to men.

It fills their heads with unrealistic expectations of life and relationships.

No, capitalism breeds efficiency. Resources are limited, so how do we know how to allocate them to get the most value? Under capitalism, resources are exchanged for money, and for the most part, people pay more when they get more value. So by having everyone pursue the most amount of money, you can generally get the most amount of value. There are of course exploits and problems, but it works far better than the socialist system where resource allocation is decided by a central authority that is usually clueless and disconnected from real world requirements.

Necessity is the mother of invention. If people stopped buying these types of stories, then all the actors and producers would need to figure out something that people do want to buy. But people apparently do want this type of story, even if you don't like it. Thankfully for all the people who enjoy these, the market decides, not a central authority.
