What are the options?
Three feminists lecturing for and hour and a half
Or
A “diverse” recreation of a beloved series
Option 3. Stay home.
Ah, my go to option. Glad to see it offered.
I wanna watch Dune 2.
I don't know man, Dune was pretty sweet and I HATE all new movies
Who can tell the difference?
The math is pretty simple for the theater companies. Dune will make money.
The profits must flow.
The Marvels? Never heard of them.
The real name is The Mary Sues.

Found a source.
The source, Bounding Comics, is well known for being anti woke, it would have been nice not to archive their link, you deprive from traffic one of the few non woke websites that we have for media information.
Carol Danvers: A comic character nobody likes and only has a long running comic series right now because the character is so dull there's nothing to reboot to. Meanwhile Iron Man has several comic runs going as does Spider-Man, Hulk has recently relaunched yet again][for better or worse as the last run was dog shit and the current is leaning hard on the previous Immortal Hulk story], Dr Strange is in the midst of a new run after having died last year or so, and many other characters who fans actually like are doing new and exciting things. Well, most of the time. Marvel is still fairly shit in general but Carol is very much in the lower depths of interest.
Kamala: literally died 2 months ago and was brought back just last week so Marvel could retcon her into a mutant for MCU synergy because the live action version is being used to backdoor mutants into the franchise. Again a character nobody wants or likes. Her recent appearances in Amazing Spider-Man were so inconsequential that when it came time for her to be mourned none of it felt sincere because there hadn't been any actual interactions with the other characters. It was all revisionist reminiscing that was the kind of thing that should have been shown rather than spoken about but Wells has been too busy shitting all over Peter for two dozen issues to include anything else.
Monica Rambeau: The least likely of the three that normies will know because her MCU presence has been squirreled away in the Wandaverse series and beyond that has had no actual connections to the others or her comic versions.
tl;dr this is going to be shit, but then everyone here already knew that.
The last time I went to a theater to try and watch something I left halfway through swearing off theaters for life. At least Lincoln got to see and hear half the show.
He found the second half a bit of a headache.
How very pandering to the male gaze.
What next, escher pose?
TRIGGERED.
The first is great, with a notable race and gender swap of a character. Overall I enjoyed it, but I also loved the books and I was just ecstatic to see it on the big screen so I’m a tad biased. Seeing it opening night in imax was awesome though
Kynes?
Spoiler: I'm guessing they dropped the subplot of him being the leader of the Fremen and Chani's father. Certainly the latter, because a black woman can only be a father in a liberal's fever dreams.
Yes. They swapped her for being a mother, which is less impactful
While the fact they gender-swapped Kynes shows they have the same understanding of the Dune universe as a shallow puddle, the part that pisses me off the most is that they showed the Sardaukar homeworld.
Which was very much a surprise on my part on how much it pissed me off. Didn't watch the movie, didn't plan on it, and I was very confused on the sudden inclusion of youtube feeds about the 'Sardaukar home planet'.
So, yeah. While I'm sure it looks great, I really fucking hate that movie.
The inclusion of what Selucis Secundis looks like wasn’t that immersion breaking for me, since they haven’t spoken at all about the hard planet -> hard men pipeline like the books allude to
They're never going to be able to translate all the layers of intrigue that's in the books over to films. But given that the source of the Saurdukar are a really big mystery in the book - well.
I wouldn't have expected that to be my line for the movie, but apparently it was.
It’s only a mystery for basically the first half, but I agree them revealing that was an interesting move but I trust Denis Villneuve to nail it because the rest of the movie showed a deep understanding of the world Herbert created.
The first was good. It got some things right that the 1980s film got wrong- like the ornithopters. The Baron Harkonnen wasn't as outrageous a caricature either.
I'm personally partial to the late 1800s european great powers vibe of the old movie. Certainly the last quarter of it was very rushed , but honestly original book was the same way.
They probably toned down the Baron because he's the only homosexual depiction in it. I will never forgive them for ruining Kynes character, and putting somebody so ugly as Chani.
Genderswapping Kynes alone should have sent alarm bells off with anyone who knows anything about Dune.
I could go off on a large tangent about how it makes no fucking sense given the entire political and gender-aspect of the setting as a whole, but, eh. Try to point this out and you get a horde of midwits mumbling something about how I hate women or blacks or something.
It's weird because I loved the movie but have never read the books and her character doesn't do anything woke. So they just pissed of hardcore fans without pleasing marxists or ruining the movie. The rest of the movie is great IMO. I want to read the books now.
I'm sure there were a bunch of hardcore Dune fans that were making excuses in their heads when they went to see the movie. It's just pure power-play. Same with the race-swapped fremen and Chaani.
And yeah, you really should read the books. They're a classic for a reason.
IMHO, it was .... meh. I mean, there was nothing in it that I hated. I mostly just found it totally bland and unwatchably boring.
They genderswapped a somewhat main character (Kynes) for no reason, didn't show another early key character (Feyd-Rautha), they have the classic thing that all movies have now where bad guys HAVE TO TALK IN WEIRD ECHOEY MONSTER VOICES LIKE BANE which is annoying and pointless.
I found the casting incredibly uninspired. None of the characters had any chemistry or on screen charisma. Maybe Jason Moamoa?
Paul Atreides is supposed to be a strong youth who has been trained in combat from a young age. Timothee Chalamet just looks like a pussy twink who hangs out at the record store and wears skinny jeans. Zendaya, boring. Thufir Hawat, boring. Duke Leo and Jessica--I honestly don't even remember them at all.
It wasn't offensive, just bland and boring. The only thing it had going for it was pretty tight cinematography and sets. Those were pretty great.
I'm more interested in the 2nd Dune film since I'm REALLY hoping it follows the example of Empire Strikes Back or The Two Towers where the 2nd film is better than the first.
Not really caring about the weasel excuses Disney comes up with of why 'super vaginas the film' is going to flop.
When I watched Dune part one besides the stunning effects and a really well made film that paid attention to detail, I did not detect woke propaganda embedded in the film, I am glad they are doing well.
Both look like something I'm not sure I'd want to watch on a screen the size of an iPhone, much less an Imax
I'm surprised the Marvels are even getting a theatrical release. They should wipe the directors butt and sell that, it would be of more worth to humanity than this film.
Don't they use specialized film reels for IMAX? So would this imply that Marvels IMAX reels have been made and now they won't be used?
That’s only true for like real IMAX. Recently there has been a trend of showing regular movies on Imax to take advantage of the larger screen.
My guess is that the Dune movie is real IMAX and the Disney movie isn’t. That’s why Disney didn’t reserve the space.
LieMax.
This has been a contentious topic for years: https://www.slashfilm.com/519043/qa-imax-theatre-real-imax-liemax/
TLDR: Digital IMAX was designed to be a cheaper alternative to IMAX that can be retrofit into existing theaters. It's subjectively "better" than a regular movie, but does not replicate the experience of something that was shot on physical 70MM film stock.
The issue is the theaters will call digital IMAX simply "IMAX" and charge the increased ticket price. There are usually only one or two theaters within hundreds of miles that are real IMAx, so unless a movie is being shown there it's not IMAX regardless what what they call it.
I liked the superhero movies. They were fun! They were an adventure.
Then infinity war ended and everything is woke preaching bullshit. No thanks.
