Kotaku: Hogwarts Legacy Proves Harry Potter Should Leave Slytherin Behind (archive.is)

The amount of hilarity in this article from what the writer assumes are coherent arguments makes this worth at least a glance. For example:

If there were ever a time to remove the Slytherin name from Hogwarts, it was when he was spouting prejudiced nonsense, but the next best time would be when it was clear he was involved in the death of students like Myrtle Warren, who died when Voldemort let the Basilisk loose on the school’s muggle-born population. The next, next best time would be when Voldemort was defeated, and his rise to power was easily traced back to Slytherin’s own views—after all, Voldemort is literally called the “Heir of Slytherin.” And yet, Albus Potter is told by his own father to believe that the Slytherin name is a badge of honor, even if it doesn’t align with what the rest of his family got when they were declared brave and sorted into Gryffindor.

Yes, they are literally trying to cancel culture a fictional child’s book villain house

Hogwarts Legacy is still really woke, so have they really lost control? The devs compromised and made the game DEI friendly so it's still pretty much a lost cause. No telling what they'll continue to do with the IP.

Wokeness is a means to an end. The end goal is total control.

If they don't have total control and their political enemies have wiggle room then they are always in danger of losing control completely.

Looked like every other character was some minority or another.

Aren't they hurting their own audience of cat women since they're the biggest lovers of 'bad boys' and Slytherin is 'the bad boy dorm'

They need progressive bad boys like a physically abusive “male feminist” boyfriend. Remember, while male democrats statistically commit more violent and sex crimes, they at least use your correct pronouns while doing so.

It is funny that all their fantasies and groups they defend are WAY more dangerous than right or the groups they are based on.

The amount I hear the BDSM community complaining about leftist depictions of them is ridiculously high...

Not really. Hyping up just how evil they are keeps the flame alive and they'll keep writing smutty fanfiction anyway.

It was always kind of stupid:

This house is for the brave kids,

This one is for the smart kids,

This one for the kind kids,

And this one for the evil kids.

All the main villains were Slytherin. Even if some of the kids from there were decent, why would you keep a group that was basically a villain factory around?

This is not to say I agree with any moral calls to eliminate Slytherin from the mythos, just that I think it was poor writing. But I mean they are children's books, and they dumb down a lot of shit in books for kids.

I mean the alternative is letting all these sociopaths just wander around and become rogue wizards (or outright kill them), so I guess sorting them into the bully frat at least lets you channel their destructive tendencies into more constructive activities at least some of the time. It's childrens' literature, we've been pleading with these morons to read another book for like eight years at this point.

And yet despite all that, its still the most popular by a long shot with the main audience of woman who consume it.

I dare say by improving the writing quality they'd probably make it less popular.

when all my friends proudly proclaimed they were part of Gryffindor or Hufflepuff

LIES.

Who the fuck would ever claim to be Hufflepuff?

Boring people who pretend they are nice, yet everyone hates them, because they are SJW cunts.
Yes, there was this big wave of people saying they are Hufflepuff.

For fun, I like to claim that Hufflepuff is the only house that actually gets any work done. While the other three are squabbling among themselves and acting like they're so important in a world that's ruled by filthy muggles who could shoot them all to death if they ever found out about them, the Hufflepuffs are tending to matters important on a cosmic scale, like battling eldritch horrors lurking beyond the fringes of reality. This is the reason they're so uninvolved with that whole silly matter with the snake guy and that unspectacular nerd with the scar. It's completely beneath them, and if they did get involved, the whole mess would have been solved before the first book even began. That whole reputation of being the house of leftovers is one they actively cultivate to keep the others houses out of their goddamn business.

That would be quite hilarious, I can definitely see a harry potter manga or anime where in the background of all the boring student stuff there are some Hufflepuff's battling some eldritch abominations. Or having them all bloodied during classes and no one notices anything in universe

See if we were going by colors...

Ravenclaw is Penn State, Slitherin is Michigan State, Hufflepuff is U-Iowa...

And Griffindor are the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

When I was a child, I didn’t think much about what it meant to be a Slytherin. When I was a teenager, I thought it validated my ambition. As an adult, I know I can have that validation without it having to be named after the origin point for everything destructive in this setting.

When I was a teenager I grew out of identifying myself relative to a fantasy world.
