My guess would be that her parents fucked her mind up so royally that she genuinely believes whatever they tell her about climate doom and destruction even when it makes no sense.
She also probably doesn't remember the dates for stuff like this so she won't notice that the world should have ended but instead that it will end sometime soon™

The way they couch these sorts of predictions is by saying not that humanity will be wiped out in 5 years but that the amount of greenhouse gases will irrevocably set into motion the eventual extinction of humanity.
At least the Mayans didn't shift the goalposts with their doomsday. The fact is there isn't going to be some 'end of the world climatic event', it'll e gradual changes if any as the world itself can adapt to our small changes compared to something like yellowstone exploding.
I suspect the Mayans didn't also work towards tearing down their own nation's infrastructure to please the narrative.

This isn't literally saying humanity will be wiped out in 5 years, it's that 'point of no return' thing they always fearmonger about. Of course, I have no doubt the 'point of no return' has changed to (Current Year+5), because it's not a worthwhile grift if there's no longer anything that can be done

If you drill down to the actual predictions that she presumably is referencing, how accurate were those predictions over the past 5 years? Probably not very accurate right? So if our precious model can't predict 5 years in advance, why do we pretend like it can predict ~indefinite years into the future?
