I suspect the Mayans didn't also work towards tearing down their own nation's infrastructure to please the narrative.
No but like the current left, their constant human sacrifice meant that when a new power came in that just went 'we'll steal shit but not religiously sacrifice you' everyone around then turned on them at this opportunity.
Sure that wasn't the Aztecs? Or was it both? Ancient MesoAmerican cultures really do blend together sometimes.
