This is more 1984 than Fahrenheit 451

The purpose of the re-write is to destroy the cultural significance of the original. And to force a political discussion whenever it is brought up.

I'm starting to think we need some kind of Archive of the Old Ways that saves literature, media etc from before the world went mad.

Maybe as a torrent so it can't really be shut down?

Can you believe the Taliban destroyed statues of Budha?

Surely this wouldn't happen in the US...oh wait they're doing the sane thing.

Yeah, destroying something leaves a hole, which would be noticed. Rewriting it poisons it, there is no hole left, but there is still something there.

Don't forget that books were only burned in Fahrenheit 451 because they were deemed offensive, and people demanded them to outlawed.

Colored people don't like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people don't feel good about Uncle Tom's Cabin. Burn it. Someone's written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Burn the book. Serenity, Montag. Peace, Montag. Take your fight outside. Better yet, into the incinerator. Funerals are unhappy and pagan? Eliminate them, too. Five minutes after a person is dead he's on his way to the Big Flue, the Incinerators serviced by helicopters all over the country. Ten minutes after death a man's a speck of black dust. Let's not quibble over individuals with memoriams. Forget them. Burn all, burn everything. Fire is bright and fire is clean.

An archive of our own, perhaps?

Reminder to buy old books and DVDs of movies you want to see before it’s too late.

Especially books. It's a lot easier to find a computer file that someone ripped off a DVD online. Even if you find a scan of a book, you will probably prefer to read an old fashioned paper copy instead of on a screen.

I saw a nice leather-like bound set at B&N and Costco a few years ago. You might look for that one.

I got lucky and found some older anniversary edition with all 3 books into one, had my hobbit one for ages as well(incidentally also an anniversary edition from years ago). Sometimes really hard to find something but I wish you good luck hunting for them.

First, they came for Dr Seuss, and I did not speak out, for I was not a 10-year old child.

Next, they came for Roald Dahl, and I did not speak out, for I was not a teenager.

Then, they came for Ian Fleming, and I did not speak out, for I was not overly into espionage novels.

<<You are here

And then, they came for our voices, and there was nobody left to speak out at all.

Next, they came for Roald Dahl

They came for him when he was alive, apparently The Witches was his alleged hidden allegory commentary on feminism, also some general low tier u/TheImpossible1 style themes that ler to his books being initially banned from some libraries and shit.

His critics are probably aware of the shameful fact that he openly described himself as “anti-Semite.”

Now that's just too many KIA2.win users to ping lmao

I really don't think its a case of not speaking out. Most people won't even know it happens, and those that do are speaking back and are just powerless to effect real change.

It’s worth noting that nearly the entirety of Reddit (where it has come up, so far) is cheering this on…

I know, fuck Reddit, but frankly, that’s kind of scary…

We’re literally at that point now. Fucking insane…

I mean, when you ban, censor, isolate, downvote into oblivion, and otherwise browbeat anyone who has an opposing point of view, what do you think you'll be left with?

Rewriting history is absolutely some Stalinist bullshit. Throughout my life, despite all the discussions I've seen about "banning" books from public schools or libraries, no one ever suggested editing them. It was universally understood that whether you like them or not the author's words are what they are and it's not appropriate for someone else to surreptitiously rewrite them.

How did we go from at least understanding that to this sort of 1984 bullshit? And in the span of a couple of years. The left has turned into a fucking cartoon villain and their NPCs are cheering them on.

When leftists don't feel any fear, they start radicalizing exponentially. The longer it goes on, the more draconian the response has to be.

Most of the dissenting voices have been banned, no wonder reddit only had an echo chamber feeling. I only have a lurker account, I don't do reddit anymore and I am almost certain I am not alone.

“A number of updates have been made in this edition, while keeping as close as possible to the original text and the period in which it is set,”

No, keeping it "as close as possible" would be a straight reprint. There's nothing preventing that, these edits are a conscious decision that wasn't prompted but anybody's need.

At what point does this sort of villainy warrant violent reprisal? What's being done is evil. There is no other term for it.

I thought this was satire at first. I’ve been meaning to read the Bond books. Honestly I’d rather read the real version.

Some of the books are better than some of the movies, but also vice versa…

Fleming’s Bond isn’t really Connery’s Bond…

He’s somewhere between Dalton and Brosnan, with a little bit of Craig’s alcoholism thrown in…

But yeah, while I would say most of the novels are superior to, say, Moonraker or View to a Kill, many of the other movies are actually better than their book equivalent…

So that’s interesting.

They’re thoroughly “un-PC”, though. No wonder these sociopaths want them censored…

Look at the groups the've infiltrated and targetted the most, to the least.

1. Native Americans
2. Black People
3. White People
4. Indians
5. Asians
6. Jewish

Now lets look at incomes.

1. Native Am: Lowest 60 years ago -> No change
2. Black: Lowest 60 years ago -> No change
3. White: Average income 60 years ago -> No change
4. Asians: Lower Middle -> Top 1/3rd now
5. Indians: Lower Middle -> Top #2 - now
6. Jewish: Top 60 years ago -> Still #1 now

Suicide rate?

1. Native Am: Worst #1
2. Black: Middle
3. White: Worst #2
4. Asians: Best
5. Indians: Best
6. Jewish: No idea

The only groups that move ylup are the ones they spend no time talking about.

And the group at the top - jewish people - have entire organizations dedicated to making sure you don't talk about them.

Point being, I'm sure you'll continue seeing black people being screwed over under the guise of "helping" them.

It's going to be defined as "Racist" to say that James Bond is a British (With a Swiss mother) man. Hell if the James part wasn't as strongly masculine as it is (and his name being the big marketing behind the 007 brand) they would move to make it a woman before muddying his blood like Dr Who

Problematic cinematic depictions of the character are also being addressed to eliminate gendered language violence against at risk LGBTQIAWTF+ minorities. The formerly titled movie Octopussy will now be renamed OctoFrontHole and erotic scenes re-shot with gender queer actors in drag.
