There's something to that thought really. Women cower away from dangerous things they perceive to be dangerous. Case in point, one of my cousins got a knife for Christmas. Watching the reactions of the women, you'd think they just watched someone die in front of them. These aren't screeching lib women either. Women do not understand male nature , the necessity of force and expect someone to just magically show up to protect them, as has been the case their whole lives.
When I was a kid, women AND men were expected to help on the farm by the time they were ten, both women and men would have been handling and using knives to cook, skin, or chop things for five years at that point.
Libs hate guns because they want a government monopoly on violence such that the populace cannot credibly resist. They care about this so much, because libs intend to force lots of extremely unpopular policies on people "for their own good" and know that an armed populace would fight back and thwart the lib agenda.
They fear that all their hard work over the last several generations to stage a complete takeover of government and an end to democracy would all be for nothing when the people ended up revolting anyway. They might even end up ousted from power through an armed rebellion and stuck with a right wing government occupying the totalitarian throne they spent generations making for themselves.
