Honestly we just need to let these franchises die. We got the books and the original trilogy. We need to incentivize new great works that aren’t woke instead of giving these queers any attention.
Thank God the LOTR Trilogy movies were made at the perfect time for the combinaison of technology for epic visuals, great acting, respect for the source material and correct casting.
They would never be made as they were today. They would shove non-Whites all over the Middle-Earth, interracial romances and invent Strong Wammen Leaders to steal half the show away from the source material like they started doing in The Hobbit trilogy.
I think it stands out that Boromirs death sequence and the real introduction of Orcs has yet to be matched in anything LOTR aside from the original trilogy. Unfortunately we keep taking two steps back in writing and three steps back in costume design.
That wasn't wokism, that was streamlining. Glorfindel only has two scenes in the trilogy, both in the first book, so Jackson gave his scene to a different character who would be sticking around longer.
Arwens romance is pretty integral to Aragorns character but in the books this is all relegated to an appendices, so the decision was made to replace a minor character (plot wise) with Arwen to flesh out hers and Aragorns relationship.
That's not woke it's just sensible story telling.
Jackson even cut scenes he was going to have her in because he realised it was too much and made no sense.
Agreed. As an 80s baby there was a time when I would’ve loved adaptations of the books and comic books I read. But good grief I never would’ve imagined the dumpster fires. When I read Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein I would’ve loved to see a film but I hope they never touch any great sci fi or fantasy again
Sure there are aspects that would be hard to translate: nerd stufff, background, inner monologs. But I'd leave those out. There are other, epically filmable aspects like chases and explosions and fights. There's, uh, plenty of text to work with. I guess I'm thinking of Snow Crash, first. That's probably the most famous, although I'd probably rather see The Diamond Age.
Based on a lack of news since it was announced in 2020, I'm wondering if this wasn't one of the many things canceled in the past few years. The few sources I could find say it's still going though.
Why do you say that? I have some of his books but haven't read them yet. I haven't read them yet due to the fact that I have a large mountain of unread books to get through. Should I push those to the top of the "to read" stack?
You should decide what to read next based on your own interests. You may like SciFi but be more in the mood for Horror. Who knows but you.
Early Heinlein can be great. Read that Heinlein. Later stuff gets very weird. Honestly unreadable imho. Stranger in a Strange Land is a great book and it's probably where the weirdness begins.
The past is diverse. The future is diverse. Homogenous nations have never existed. Diversity is natural and impossible to reverse. You're a bigot for even noticing that they're pushing an agenda with their choices, much less engaging with their flimsy arguments and exposing them. Their only goal is to convince you that this is the way things must be.
If being observant, intelligent, conscientious, honest, and moral makes you racist, then how can one possibly even justify being upset by the label "racist"?
Simply existing in fandom? LOTR has been translated into many languages. Plenty of non-white people were able to enjoy it. I’m so sick of these young fans who think that classics have to change to suit them
The thing is, there were, and in the Second Age, that this bloody series is about, they'd not gone all-in on the Sauron worshipping yet.
They could have legitimately had an interesting series about the people who would later become the Haradrim and how they got there, and discarded it because they wanted to claim and colonise the main storyline for themselves.
it seems we have reached the part where they're trying to kick out the original fans after they subverted the lore and gaslit the normies. I swear this wokies operate from a playbook, its become to repetitive to see yet again another great IP raped.
Couldn’t they have used the race of men to have non white characters? And if we’ve learned anything in the past few years we’ve learned what kind of show it is when they lead with diversity. I imagine they have not received many outright racist posts. But when not liking a show is racism then this is what happens.
Yep. A story about white elves being dicks in the region of Harad, because the black men there sided with Morgoth would have ticked the diversity boxes. They chose not to do that, because it was never about the actual 'bipoc' in middle earth, it was about overwriting the canon with diverse characters to insert leftist allegory.
This type of nonsense is already tiresome. People aren't up in arms because skin color, it's because they have to prove that the lore supports it. And as far as I know, one area had darker skinned people.
They already think orks=black anyway, so there's no getting through to them.
This adaptation, it's just a train wreck. But this train wreck is special. Watch it explode constantly as it makes it's way to the spot it's supposed to wreck.
This is why I get so mad that they always feel the need to crap all over superior works. All they had to do was hire authors who could write an original fantasy with all the woke garbage they wanted
lets see these cultural vandals try this nonsense with non white fantasy and folk lore
as for the BIPOC thing The return of king had the Drúedain which were certainly indigenous as well some of the elven tribes that did not go to Valinor at the invitation of the valar in the first age
Are there really BIPOC in Middle Earth if nobody is around to watch them?
Honestly we just need to let these franchises die. We got the books and the original trilogy. We need to incentivize new great works that aren’t woke instead of giving these queers any attention.

Even it contained the beginnings of wokism, as Arwen rescuing Frodo instead of Glorfindel.
That wasn't wokism, that was streamlining. Glorfindel only has two scenes in the trilogy, both in the first book, so Jackson gave his scene to a different character who would be sticking around longer.
She was inserted because she was a woman. Could have been Elrond himself and it would even make more sense than books but no.
Arwens romance is pretty integral to Aragorns character but in the books this is all relegated to an appendices, so the decision was made to replace a minor character (plot wise) with Arwen to flesh out hers and Aragorns relationship. I can't figure out why they haven't made any Neal stephenson movies
Because looking up words in a dictionary while I’m a movie theatre is difficult.

Apparently HBO is making Snow Crash.
oh boy, i can't wait for them to fuck that up

I enjoy those genres. Right now I’m rereading Heir to the Empire. Read it at age 12 and wanted to read it again.

Ok. So what?
If being observant, intelligent, conscientious, honest, and moral makes you racist, then how can one possibly even justify being upset by the label "racist"?
It's okay if MENA/BAME/BIPOC cosplay as whites, but it's not okay if whites cosplay as "people of colour"..
Sounds fair .. /s
White-washing, appropriation, colonizing.. these are just word. Words of Justice for oppressed people!! /S
I’ve learned to tune out those who use the term “bipoc”. Along with other things
Simply existing in fandom? LOTR has been translated into many languages. Plenty of non-white people were able to enjoy it. I’m so sick of these young fans who think that classics have to change to suit them
I was told by the left that there were already black people and they were in Mordor.
It’s not called the Black Speech for nothing.
What's it say?
I dunno it's in the black speech
zooms in
Bix nood cof bin dug ho muthafuggah

This reads like a Tumblr SJW sperging in 2005.
And yet here we are now. I hate what this world turned into.
On point. It reminds me of what the SomethingAwful goons were sperging back in 2009.
Eternal summer led into eternal September, and we approach eternal winter.
There's a lot of "eternal" things, isn't there?

The promoted their Facebook post on this.
The top comments are all mocking them.

Of course. And then we are attacked for seeing through their BS.

God I hate these ignorant narcissistic nobodys
black text on white background
this is serious
#culturalappropriation
Still waiting to see the receipts of all this racist abuse…
there WERE "bipoc" in middle earth.
fighting for sauron.
You don't even belong on this planet, apes. Let alone a fictional one.
"Bipoc belong in middle earth"
Lovecraft's black cat's name: Niggerman.
Anyone trying to say he wrote for black people is a fucking moron.
Even funnier to see these woke gaming companies having no problems making money off of him while trashing him
"Shub-Niggurath" is basically just "Bush Nigger".
