You are 100% correct. All over the world you can find royalty. Or throughout history. I hope this show fails

One seriously overlooked remake (mainly because of how much it suuuuucks) is Pete's Dragon. The original was super popular when it came out. The remake? Bleah.

They changed the entire story ... in the original, Pete was an orphan, who'd been adopted by some hillbillies who were under the impression that since they had paid money for Pete, he was now their slave. Pete was on the run, and Elliot was helping him escape.

In the remake, he's just some kid, living in the woods, just because ..

Yeah, not to mention how horrible the CGI/design was.

That wasn't Elliot.

They are flash-in-the-pan easy sources of cash for Disney as people open their wallets so they can be exploited by nostalgia.

Not to mention that the live-action remakes give them a chance to reset the clock on the copyright on their iteration of the characters. I fully expect there to be a lobbying in congress for yet another extension of copyright as the marker for Mickey to go into public domain once again looms ever closer.

Because red and blonde hair are uniquely white. The proverbial they are one thing above almost everything else, and that's anti white.

You make a good point as it's extremely rare for anyone but white people to have blonde or red hair naturally.

I thought it was some anti Scottish thing because of the British Empire, I'm just saying when the English stopped fighting the Scots and they joined the military, we got an empire....

Heard of Darien (of the “Darien Gap” fame), perchance..?

It was Scotland’s very own attempt at solo empire-building, bankrupted the Scottish crown, and led, in part, to Scotland agreeing to join “the empire”…

To say it went, uhh, not well would be an understatement…

Also the Falklands were almost solely settled by Scots, though that happened after the merger…

Just a couple of interesting historical quirks, lol!

Yeah that project went.....poorly if I were being charitable...

Though if you want a bit of historical irony, during the Falklands war, the last mountain to be taken from Argentine control before the British regained Stanley was taken by 2nd Battalion Scots Guard

Some of Alexander the Great’s literal descendants ended up in that part of “Central Asia”, resulting in blonde hair, blue eyes, etc (allegedly), so… While that may not be the same genetic source (he was Macedonian/Greek. They don’t tend to have red hair), I would suggest that sort of… Genetic mixing has been going on for at least that long…

For it to survive what, 2500+ years is interesting, though…

If they are his direct descendants… Man must have raped a hell of a lot of local women… 😳

So redheads in your ranks can get you the win....

Brb, gonna see if I can convince the Scots to join a special task force...

The Caucasus mountains, from which Caucasian is derived, are somewhere between Europe and Asia. Is my understanding. Whatever "white" is people in that region have a lot of it. They're not, like, Han Chinese, or at least they didn't used to be.

▲ 3 ▼
– bamboozler1 3 points 3 years ago +3 / -0

Yeah, you're looking at specifically Armenia, Georgia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, etc...

That's the Caucususesesses....

Amusingly, Chechen men, being Muslims, look... Slightly less white, but that's mainly due to them, uhh, trying to intentionally emphasise their "Muslim-ness" (see Putin's pet warlord, etc.).

But yeah, Armenians, Georgians and Azeris..? They're pretty damn white, lol... Especially the people of the first two (non-Muslim, non-Turkic) countries!

People move around. So it's not shocking that there are "white" genes in Central Asia and the Middle East. Non-brown hair and eye colors showing through are a hallmark of whiteness, whatever actual skin tone someone ends up having. You don't see it in, eg SE Asia or sub-Saharan Africa. The lightness of people's skin, provided they sit still long enough, tends to be determined by latitude and is a different thing than the hue of their skin. Thus Greeks who are of the Caucasian broad-racial-category have pretty dark skin but carry genes for things like blue eyes. American Indians from that latitude have pretty dark skin, too, but are of a different hue.

I treat Disney as if it blinked out of existence in the the mid-1990's. Of course I saw all the cartoons as a kid and the've aged pretty well. There's an earnestness to the stuff Disney put our when he was still alive that is totally absent from the new stuff. The "Disney Renaissance" of the early 1990's was their last hurrah.

What amazes me is that they haven't completely gutted Disneyland and rebuilt it with modern shit. The bulk of the park still has the old attractions from the 50s and 60s with little changes.

Disneyland relies on people's nostalgia to keep them coming back. If they change the rides then it threatens that fragile system. Especially as most of their modern stuff keeps failing to draw enough audience to meet its cost.

I know the only ride that would have ever drawn me back, Extra-TERROR-estrial the absolute most terrifying thing younger me experienced, was replaced with a goofy Stitch ride decades ago. Nothing else was worth the time or money.

Ngl, The Goofy Movie, which vaguely aped at “black culture”, but in an, let’s say “inclusive”, rather than “exclusive” way, is actually really, really good…

Came out in around 1997, I believe. As did Tarzan.

Disney stops being good around Y2K, IMHO…

Dreamworks, oddly, if it has jumped the shark, has only done so much more recently, by comparison…

Dreamworks just doesn’t feel the need to be endlessly “woke” (at least in the movies. I ignore the TV spin-offs). Nor did Don Bluth, lol…

Unlike all the rest, which came and went with little fanfare, this one was immediately swarmed by the media the moment it began production for its race swap years ago.

Which should tell you what the project was about from the start.

When my PE teacher tried to divy us up into teams based on favorite ranger, it fell apart when everyone liked the red ranger and just a handful of kids liked anything else. I'm pretty sure there wasn't even a racial breakdown on those outliers.
