I treat Disney as if it blinked out of existence in the the mid-1990's. Of course I saw all the cartoons as a kid and the've aged pretty well. There's an earnestness to the stuff Disney put our when he was still alive that is totally absent from the new stuff. The "Disney Renaissance" of the early 1990's was their last hurrah.
What amazes me is that they haven't completely gutted Disneyland and rebuilt it with modern shit. The bulk of the park still has the old attractions from the 50s and 60s with little changes.
Disneyland relies on people's nostalgia to keep them coming back. If they change the rides then it threatens that fragile system. Especially as most of their modern stuff keeps failing to draw enough audience to meet its cost.
I know the only ride that would have ever drawn me back, Extra-TERROR-estrial the absolute most terrifying thing younger me experienced, was replaced with a goofy Stitch ride decades ago. Nothing else was worth the time or money.
Ngl, The Goofy Movie, which vaguely aped at “black culture”, but in an, let’s say “inclusive”, rather than “exclusive” way, is actually really, really good…
Came out in around 1997, I believe. As did Tarzan.
Disney stops being good around Y2K, IMHO…
Dreamworks, oddly, if it has jumped the shark, has only done so much more recently, by comparison…
Dreamworks just doesn’t feel the need to be endlessly “woke” (at least in the movies. I ignore the TV spin-offs). Nor did Don Bluth, lol…
