Fernando Bustos Gorozpe was sitting with friends in a cafe here when he realized that — once again — they were outnumbered. “We’re the only brown people,” said Bustos, a 38-year-old writer and university professor. “We’re the only people speaking Spanish except the waiters.”

Too fucking bad

They're the ones who stayed, they deserve none of our flak.

Their main source of income is theft from our country. Quit pretending they all aren’t benefiting from the illegal immigration, drug trade, and the money they send back. Mexico would have died a long time ago if that wasn’t the case.

Mexico would have died a long time ago if that wasn’t the case.

Or it would have reformed and become something better. Financial dependency is a terrible drug.

Doubtful. Mexico has never been a truly industrial nation. Always use the Thomas Sowell litmus test for future success of countries. If we build a railroad in a foreign country and they use it but never learn to build it themselves then they will not be successful country. Countries that take in foreign concepts and build off of them are the ones that become successful. Central/ South America and Africa have been playing catch-up for hundreds of years now with no unique innovations.

You sound like a SJW saying that 'all white men are bad because they all benefit from wight supremacy'.

Right… 40+ million illegal immigrants plus anchor babies and growing. That’s the equivalent of the entire us black population. Mexicos main source of income is remittances from the US, 50 billion dollars last count and growing each year. Name a white supremacist with that much privilege.

That's not surprising at all. They border a massive country that's much richer than they are.

I'm not sure what you want the average Mexican to do.

I was there on vacation in 2016 shortly before the US election and remember walking past some anti-Trump presentation some Mexicans were putting on. In one of the neighborhoods being profiled in the article, IIRC.

The ones who stayed aren't entirely innocent.

People everywhere hate Trump because of how the media portrayed him. And that'll probably be especially true in a country that was the frequent target of Trump. Does that make them bad people?

Bad? No. But Mexico largely benefits from having protectionist policies on immigration and trade while taking advantage of America's lax policies on same.

A Mexican nationalist would be insane to not want to take advantage of that, but it's still a choice. But them having taken advantage of that status quo for so long, I'm not going to feel too bad now that the shoe is starting to be on the other foot a bit.

But honestly I'm not too worried about Mexico in the long run. They have a machismo culture that is the polar opposite of American shitlib urban soy culture. Worst that'll happen is the Mexican women get upset that the Mexican men are stealing the American women from their soy American boyfriends.

Philosophy professor, likely a faggot and a commie. The neighborhoods getting filled with American immigrants were already shitholes full of champagne socialists, but it’s bad this time because they’re not the ones enjoying the cheap cost of living.

I guarantee that 95% of the service industry workers in those locations live in the poorest neighborhoods of the city and commute for at least 3 hours every day. Poor people are not being displaced. The ones I feel sorry for are the ones that have been living there for generations, but most of them are probably renting out their houses for some easy money.

The most appropriate kind of wall would be one around California, protecting the other 49 states as well as Mexico.

Also, imagine how bad things are in California if you look at cartel-infested, drug war-wrecked Mexico and think that it actually looks like a great place to live.

As far as I'm aware, and I'm not very aware at all, Mexico City is the one place actually under control of the government. The country is a somewhat twisted version of the old Aztec Empire, with a capital city in a constant struggle to control the surrounding territories.

Hopefully a Mexican will chime in to tell me if this is a retarded take.

I spent some time in one of those neighborhoods in 2016. It's a stretch to say it's "nicer" than a major city in America: from all the razor wire and thick solid steel gates obviously designed to resist being rammed with a vehicle it's clear some serious shit goes down sometimes even in the nice parts of the city.

But I never felt unsafe walking around during the day. And the Feds made a good show at least of keeping order: they have vehicle patrols with SUVs with mounted machine guns and beat officers carrying (IIRC) M16s. But who knows if any of the weapons are loaded.

Definitely nicer than I remember Tijuana being.

I've always heard the north of Mexico is mostly like poorer parts of the US. It's the south of Mexico where most of the illegals come from and tend to be less Spanish.

Why are they not just hopping across the border to Tijuana, or continuing south down to that earthly Zapatista paradise?

I'm sure one search on the demographics of Mexico City will answer that. Say one thing, do another.

Fun but perhaps little known fact: it's illegal for foreign nationals to participate in Mexico's political affairs, including protests, and I believe you can be deported for doing so. Also Mexico is way more socially conservative than the places these Americans are moving from.

Let's just say I hope the problem works itself out naturally.

No-one wants to be flooded with immigrants, including this obvious prick.

The LA Times sympathetically calls his nativism "multilayered" though.

Even though I should expect this, their blatant stupidity never fails to surprise me.

WIll Mexico realize it's not so fun to have to play host to invaders who come into your country uninvited and start taking resources that could be used to benefit their paying citizens, and start taking actions to control the flow of illegals both into and out of their borders?

No, of course it won't. Mexico gives less of a shit about its paying citizens than we do ours and theirs.

There has always been a large expat contingent in Mexico City. Once it was mainly old people looking to stretch their fixed incomes or criminals and addicts keeping a low profile. Now most of them are obnoxious yuppie telecommuters like the ones pictured in the article who discovered that they could, with their inflated salaries, live like sultans in Mexico.

And "Yankee go home" is also old hat, with exceptions always made for the gringos who throw lots of $ around.
