Most student loan debt is private to boot. Only thing they could cancel is the federal debt. The federal cap is 53k. So jenny would still have like 350k in debt to pay off.

The universities make the tax payers whole on a proportional basis

Eliminate all federal endowments and use the "profit" to pay for the forgiven loans.

edit: u/acp_k2win beat me to it

I'll accept the cancellation if any university that made money through federal loans is liquidated and all records destroyed.

this. want to keep your degree? you pay for it.

but we also need to kill off taxpayer backing of shit tier student loans, or we're not actually stopping the problem. it's like bailing a boat that has a giant crack down the middle.

This seems reasonable to me.

They might wait until the midterms, then just say "ooopsie sorry" when it has 0 chance of passing with the new Senate and House having republican majorities.

I would support "cancelling" it...as a result of demolishing all the major banks.

I wonder if he's planning to use this as a carrot for the '22 and '24 elections. Vote blue and he'll continue the pause/cancel some debt.

cancel student loan debt by forcing universities to liquidate their endowments to pay back the loans

and allow graduates to sue universities for their tuition back plus penalties if the degree they paid for doesn't have realistic prospects for real jobs that could reasonably pay back the loan - the school allowing majors in worthless degrees is malpractice

This kind of thing is why I won't be spooked into voting for shitty Republicans out of fear of dems. There is a huge conflict of interest between dem voters and their donors. The voters' debts are held by the donors so they aren't getting anything without a huge fight.

The vast majority of student debt is owned by leftists. I will never support a debt jubilee for these people.

The vast majority of student debt is owned by leftists.

The debtors and lenders are both overwhelmingly leftists. I say, let them fight.

Sort of a "whoever loses, we win" type of deal?

It's a fucking money chute from the tax payers to woke college admins, so you should care. It's the same scam but ever scammier.

As someone who graduated from college debt free because of the G.I. Bill; student loan forgiveness is a fucking slap to the face to all who joined the armed services to put themselves through college.

Not gonna lie tho, the post 9-11 G.I. Bill may have been a little too generous. After it switched over it was like going to college on easy mode.

Social security, Medicare, Medicaid, student loan forgiveness. We're far too communist already.

I’m conflicted because I honestly believe after working at a university fed backed student loans need to go and the whole system shut down granted someone’s losing their shirt over it. I also agree you should pay your debt back if you take out but if I’m watching the economy and my future take a giant shit why should I pay the fed loans back? It makes more sense use that depreciating asset for something more useful like a house or supplies for when shit gets bad.

FWIW: I paid my private loans back and if we’re doing this I want that debt reimbursed

I saw someone on youtube (I remember them being someone reputable I was familiar with but don't remember who) saying the women owe 2/3rds of the student debt.

I support student debt forgiveness in exchange for the still beating heart of the debtor.

The only reason I care about the war in Ukraine is because it gave the globalists something to blame for their own destruction. Nobody should believe that excuse, but unfortunately many do believe it.
