Fast forward to today: short of a foreign army on American soil, I’m not sure anything could get me to support US involvement in a foreign war.

There are two shows with the name Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
There is the original ova series with 110 episodes and there is a newer remake that is not yet complete called the Legend of the Galactic Heroes Die Neue These.
The newer remake is not bad but the original remains the vastly better one to watch first.
If you want an anime with memorable characters and deals with complex themes involving war and politics without pushing any agenda you will love LOTGH.

I really do need to carve out some time to watch it, but the pacing is so slow.
