Denis Villeneuve is the most over-hyped waste of time director in the last few years. The Blade Runner sequel was "meh". Never trust a Frenchman. I know on films like this the director doesn't really have that much say anyway though. So to think a bunch of Hollywood execs would give you anything without at least a woke underlying message would be naive. At least sometimes they still give you a good story, just with an improbable cast of diverse geniuses to save the day.

I never had any hopes for it from the start. Aside from the original adaptation back in the day, which still wasn't that great, they've never been able to pull it off. This newest iteration is nothing but a hot mess.
ITs a pity how all of media/cinema was destroyed after 2014 and its not possible for big studios to make films/tv anymore. a total pity...
The lesson here is to stop putting any stock in films/tv, especially adaptations. Just seek out the source material if you want good media.
I absolutely adored The Gentleman. What a masculine, no-nonsense crime thriller. Probably Guy Ritchie's most sophisticated film.

People were pinning their hopes on the director, because his last adaptation (or at least the last one I'm aware of) was relatively faithful and a decent movie in its own right. I had hopes until they announced that they had hired a dyslexic casti g director, as Hollywood is wont to do.
He also directed Sicario, the most based movie made in the last decade.
