I still don't get why they don't just create new characters. Not only do they destroy existing characters, they ONLY destroy existing characters. Such lack of imagination! I can come with one now, idk how about Hyena-man, who has the power to transform into half man, half hyena with berserker type moves. How about a black super hero that is analogous to Aquaman, except instead of fish and the ocean, it's the African savannah or jungle, etc.

They literally said that new characters don't sell and fans reject them (as they should).

One of the He-Man executives blatantly outright said they hijack existing characters and franchises because they have an established fanbase, and they use that fanbase to spread their propaganda. Remember, you can't indoctrinate people with a degenerate agenda if you don't have people to indoctrinate, which is why they anchor their propaganda to existing franchises and established characters.

Ah, found the article: https://boundingintocomics.com/2021/07/05/netflix-director-claims-king-grayskull-and-andra-race-swapped-in-masters-of-the-universe-revelations-because-new-characters-could-be-easily-rejected/

Here is what Ted Biaselli had to say about them race-swapping King Greyskull...

a big hurdle when you’re introducing a new character to a line of so many well established characters is that they are bound to be outsiders, and harder to accept as canon, at least for a while. Nobody gives a s–t about Sir Lazer Lot.

We asked ourselves early on about the need for giant white, blonde dudes in the pantheon of [Masters of the Universe]. And honestly, it makes both characters less special in their iconography.”

I wish I could take credit for being the one with the idea to make [King] Grayskull black. Because now, in the history of all the champions of Grayskull, a black man has a role of prominence. As opposed to just being the guy with the clamp [a reference to Clamp Champ, the only black character to receive an action figure in the original toy line].

And then wrapping themselves in an LGBTQ flag to deflect criticism. It's so blatantly fucking obvious it's almost sad really. This whole SJW culture is really about companies wanting to protect their investment. They don't really want representation, they just know that criticizing a trans lead character is social suicide so their product's shittyness is masked.

Which, of course, is why they're never going to sell to anywhere except the People's Congress of the Soviet Union. They've marked any feedback that isn't mindless affirmation as "hate speech" and then wonder why they don't get any better.

Because they lack even a modicum of creativity and they know that their pastiche self-insert social agenda megaphone characters go over about as well as a turd in the punch bowl at a high school dance (see: the New Warriors reboot that didn't get off the ground). They need a way in to be able to blast their message to as many eyes as they can and they can't wait for their trash to gain popularity, so they co-opt existing characters into their agenda (Iceman, Tim Drake's Robin, Squirrel Girl) or replace them with race-lifted Mary Sue versions that are supposedly better than the originals (Riri as Ironheart, Sam Alexander as Nova, Kamala as Ms. Marvel, Amadeus Cho as Hulk, et cetera).

Destroying cultural icons isn't a bug, it's a feature. That's the whole point of it all. It isn't an accident that all of these old heroes are being degraded and humiliated. It's all for the sake of the revolution. The older cultural values must be torn down before the new ones can be established.

Spiderman games all play like Spiderman games since Spiderman 2 20 years ago. If you played the 2018 one, you've probably had your fill of the gameplay.

Which only leaves the story as the draw, which is just generic "black people stuff" as far as they told us in the last game. And that wasn't worth buying a PS5 for at scalper prices because they pushed hard the PS5 version to the point most people didn't know it was on PS4.

Which you had to beat the actually quite long game to unlock outside specific missions. 3/4th of said story being Spiderman 2 again like two years later.

But that's probably the best of the games entirely and a lot of that is that Venom option.

The story was weak and notably shorter than the 2018 game. Miles just isn't interesting despite the (op) new abilities and they had to reinvent an old B-list villain (Tinkerer) to give him something to do. Between missions it's all charity work and helping mom campaign for city council, which is boring as shit. He was written from the ground up as a copycat and his story is every bit as deep as that could lead to. Top it off with a generic rich white corporate villain unapologetically destroying precious Harlem and you have the whole picture.

Miles just isn't interesting despite the (op) new abilities

He never was, his personality from the comic onset was "black people problems, but also spiderman" which is generic and cliche by now.

they had to reinvent an old B-list villain (Tinkerer) to give him something to do

This was a problem with 2018 too with "Mr. Negative" but they at least made that one work.

Shouldn’t be surprising as Peter Parker is iconic. I actually liked miles morales run in ultimate comics. Stopped reading him and haven’t read modern comics so I can only imagine what nonsense they are pushing in his books now.

Because people don't like Miles, they only liked the movie because of the plot. Dude, it's not that hard to figure out. Tokenism only gets you money in small bits, but a solid franchise can be milked for decades.

▲ 28 ▼
– TheModernDaVinci 28 points 4 years ago +28 / -0

The funny thing is, I remember in some of the older comics, they had Miles even complaining about that. He saw some video on "Not-YouTube" where some black girl was freaking out over seeing some of the skin visible in a tear in his costume, and she was screaming "OMG, Spiderman may be black! Finally someone who represents me!" And Miles was talking with his friend who knew the secret and said something to the effect of "I dont want to be 'Black Spiderman', I just want to be 'Spiderman.""

But I guess that died pretty quickly, because SJWs demand Tokenism, always, without fail. And then they are shocked and outraged when the stuff they push fails. And then they are even more outraged when Anime and Manga gives the people what they want, and even tell them "Piss off" and start doing things themselves in response to their control attempts.

"Despite launching on two platforms" doesn't count for jack shit when one of those platforms is still effectively vaporware for the average gamer, nearly a full year after its release date. Didn't help it any that the game was effectively MOTSS when compared to the original 2018 version and they were selling what should have been a DLC at full retail.

Well, what did they expect? There are far more white people than black people. They're not going to buy a game if they have to play a character they cannot in any way identify with.

That's what you lefties always say. Right?

Stop making sense. But I remember the Green Lantern Jon Stewart was popular with a lot of people during the justice league cartoon. He wouldn’t have been popular if they had used him to push the usual “black oppression” we see today.

Your point also makes me think of the crazy women on Twitter whining about why action video games are so masculine

I despise these characters that copy or hijack White ones, and some of them have been around for decades. However Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse did quite well. People seem to like Miles, though not as much as Peter. In General these characters do poorly in comparison to their White counterparts, but I don't know if that is whats going on here, for the most part. There are definitely fans who wouldn't buy a Miles game, myself included, but would buy Peter.
