Just one more brick in the wall. The goal of public "art" since the 60s was to create monuments to the hideous and nonsensical. Then to admonish anyone who points out the obvious, since they are showing themselves to be disloyal to the revolution.

I honestly can't get over how much it looks like a funny old 1940's Disney/Looney Tunes caricature of a black person. You know? The type of depiction we have been told is a big no-no for the past 30 years?

If I want to look at a giant statue of a black man, I choose the fantastic, beautiful African Renaissance Monument in Sengal

Mother. Father. Child.

Realism. Strength. Ascendancy.

Art created with the goal of inspirating and motivating. Art created to give people something to aspire to, art created to uplift.

Not this postmodern drek.

It's only raciss when "the man" says it is. (and "the man" is usually white)

Looks like disproportionate African crap.

Does leaving out the traditional Big Dick subvert African art?

Looney Tunes did it first.

A grotesque baby with a rattle. At least they've captured the BLM spirit.

Because the Michelangelo 'trope' is classical drek now that we have real art.

And since when did we have to "challenge" Michelangelo? What does that even mean? Ok have your ugly art in NY it can exist with good stuff Michelangelo made.

No audio on the video of the unveiling. I bet nobody cheered.

the purpose of art is to inspire with beauty.

if it isn't beautiful, it isn't art.

I don't think you read the article bub. This art has a qr code,

In the coming weeks, reports Artnet News, visitors will be able to activate a QR code near the sculpture and literally ask the “oracle” figure a question. They may then receive an answer from one of several unnamed celebrities, who will take turns answering queries with “mysterious, poetic vagaries"

So it's not about "art" at all, it's about something else entirely.

That just makes that sculpture just that much more hideous and grotesque. The hideousness and grotesqueness of it are truly deeper than the skin of it.

Oracle, eh? Yeah.

You can read the artist's own word here. Spoilers: Basically, it's there to make the statement that art is racist.

Watch it become an idol. And I mean in the strictest, most fundamentalist sense of that word.

A big, ugly, humanoid Magic 8 Ball that spews prophecy and feel-good words from the Modern Priesthood? Yeah. Oracle. The sheeple will line up for it. Watch for the whackadoodle "religious revelation" stuff if the thing actually attracts the crowd it's meant to.

That just makes it even worse. So not only do you get crappy art, but you get celebrities virtue-signaling to you too. Wonderful.

Compare the beauty of Manship's Prometheus and the deliberate ugliness of Biggers' Oracle - or worse, BAM.

BAM.... I have next to zero experience [I think I had to whittle a santa clause statue in jr high once] and I could make something better and or with more meaning than that...

▲ 1 ▼
– Grumman 1 point 5 years ago +1 / -0

The only skill required to create BAM is that of the iconoclast. If you're able to deface a statue by shooting it until it's unrecognisable (and are one of the privileged few who would get any attention at all for such a stunt), you could be a famous artist like Biggers.

typical modern artist, so high on the fumes of his own flatulence he fails to notice how shallow and meaningless his work is, how completely devoid of context or tradition.

See?! SEE?! Your 6 year old can do just as good at art as you can! Everybody is EQUAL when being ArTiStS.

BS.
