I started writing a story like this a couple of years ago. It took place in the future, when the mRNA vaccine caused children conceived in 2021 to start turning into giant bugs (it tied back to the Brood X cicadas in the Washington DC area). It was meant to be all about how the media controls the public’s view and reaction to these insect people (thinly veiled commentary on contempt for the unvaccinated). I never got past the first chapter, though.

Shit, Frasier couldn’t even get away with the Frasier episode about the misunderstanding about someone being gay. Twitter would be outraged over “my sexuality is not your joke” even though the jokes in that episode were hilarious.

This is one those things where you know that if Trump had a misbehaving dog, the media would’ve been all over it. CNN would’ve had a pet therapist on the air to analyze Trump’s dog’s behavior and how it reflected on Trump. But this? Crickets.
