This thesis critically interrogates how masculinist practices of breakdancing offers a site for the transgression of gendered norms. Drawing on my own experiences as a female within the male-dominated breakdancing scene in Sydney, first as a spectator, then as an active crew member, this thesis questions why so few female participants engage in this creative space, and how breakdancing might be the space to displace and deterritorialise gender. I use analytic autoetthnography and interviews with scene members in collaboration with theoretical frameworks offered by Deleuze and Guttari, Butler, Bourdieu and other feminist and post-structuralist philosophers, to critically examine how the capacities of bodies are constituted and shaped in Sydney's breakdancing scene, and to also locate the potentiality for moments of transgression. In other words, I conceptualize the breaking body as not a 'body' constituted through regulations and assumptions, but as an assemblage open to new rhizomatic connections. Breaking is a space that embraces difference, whereby the rituals of the dance not only augment its capacity to deterritorialize the body, but also facilitate new possibilities for performativities beyond the confines of dominant modes of thought and normative gender construction. Consequently, this thesis attempts to contribute to what I perceive as a significant gap in scholarship on hip-hop, breakdancing, and autoethnographic explorations of Deleuze-Guattarian theory.

This article analyses how ‘all style’ battles facilitate a queering of hip hop’s dance floor. ‘All style’ battles incorporate various ‘street dance’ styles and their respective music genres (such as breaking, popping, locking, [freestyle] hip hop, waacking, krumping and house). The intermixing and joining of divergent performativities, styles and cultural histories on the all style dance floor reconstitute hip hop’s rigid hierarchies of gender and sexuality by offering a site that celebrates plurality. In doing so, all style battles bypass the foundations that inform and legitimize hip hop’s heteropatriarchal distinctions, including the naturalization of an inherent, stable gendered self. ‘Queering’ the dance floor calls into question all bodily performance previously organized through gender. It exposes the stylization of the body, and the logic it rests upon, as an artifice. Through queering the dance floor, this article shows how all style battles can deconstruct, disrupt and expose the hierarchized heteropatriarchal distinctions in hip hop culture, calling attention to their arbitrary constructedness.

Representation is a central tenet of hip-hop culture, yet women’s experiences and contributions have long been invisibilised. This article reveals some of the barriers to visibility facing women in breaking (“b-girls”). You see it all over every social discussion site (Reddit, Facebook, etc). Apple/Google serves it up to your phones via their news push-notifications. Microsoft sends it to your desktop via their news thing in the taskbar. Wikipedia is totally gamed to all hell with their (and ONLY their) versions of all of history. Any "fact-checking" site is full of it. For the average person, it is inescapable. The right has nothing even approaching 1% of this level of power.
Nothing is ever going to change, no amount of articles by right-wing affiliated sites, no amount of pointing out the lies, pointing out the hypocrisy, is ever going to matter, until something is done to break the left's indoctrination/propaganda system. People need to be extremely involved in monitoring their kids, and informing/raising them in a way that they are not susceptible to this system. It is possible. The left pulls in ~54-60ish percent of women every presidential election, vs around 39-44ish percent for the right. I doubt that Harris is going to do much better than that. She certainly isn't going to get anywhere near 80% of women to side with her. She'll definitely get that usual two-thirds of the single/unmarried woman vote (as that's what usually votes with the left), you mentioned, though. They are a lost cause.
This election is going to be the same as the last couple. It's going to come down to a couple percent, in a couple of states. The whole thing is going to be decided by whether or not massive propaganda advantage the left enjoys (by having virtually all the media, and all the tech companies biasing nearly all the internet towards them) can push yet another shitbag leftist (with policies that, when you poll on them, the vast majority of Americans don't like, and don't want) across the finish line.
That's the only thing that matters here: that one side gets to propagandize the disinterested middle.

It's going to be pretty revealing to see more people on this side finally come to the realization - just like they were late, and joked about the leftists in education, and leftists in the media - of how bad of an idea it was to let the radical left infest the government as well.
Just as an aside, isn't it strange how - since 2020ish - they have been doing their absolute best to drive anyone with non-leftist politics out of the police, and out of the military? The guy wasn't forced to have a campaign, or a platform. It was simply the media (traditional, and tech) running 24/7 propaganda against Trump, and then universal mail in voting. I don't know. On one hand, being a guy - and knowing firsthand how powerful that drive to seek out a girl is - I'm incredibly sympathetic. I've been married for a while now, but I still remember what it was like, so - I get it. Guys really need to get this concept into their heads: you have this powerful drive to seek out romance with a girl. We all know it exists. We all spend giant amounts of time building up this concept of what a great partner would be like. We base this on everything we've experienced, all sort of media we've consumed, games we've played, etc. Then we run into this potential partner, convince ourselves that she's exactly that ideal, and then proceed to allow our "drive" to render all our logic/reason inert, and it renders us extremely vulnerable to being easily manipulated.
People need to work a lot harder to see the women they're dating as they actually are, and not as this ideal that they're imagining them to be. I know it's hard, but it's on us to do that, and to not allow yourself to be so easily manipulated - all over the ideal that we're imagining we're dealing with.
