Not dooming, just realism. I'm glad it's at +32 and not -32. We don't need complacency and delusions that everyone's gonna back Trump due to his heroics during the assassination.
Trump is winning as it is. Replacing a blithering, senile idiot with a functional adult, even as clownish as Kamala, is probably bad.

"The media" can't make anyone believe anything anymore. And the "echo chambers" filled with the "skeptical" for sure are not persuaded by anything, Besides, pretty much everyone who will vote already has their minds made up to vote Trump or whoever ends up fronting the collapsing DP.
Even a lot of people who vote Trump are persuaded by the media into anti-Trump narratives.
Now, the man has flaws (plenty of them), but the stuff they criticize him for is so stupid.
She is definitely more conventionally electable than Biden. She's way younger, a woman, "black," and her cognitive impairments are easier to explain away. She also doesn't sniff kids or have a lot of public family baggage or a history of influence-peddling. Her chances at winning the Presidency are much better than Biden's.
she's also known for being a former da that kept people in jail longer than they need to be. Oh and she's the border czar, and the border problem is now her problem too.

4 months are an eternity. The average voter has an attention span of a couple of weeks at most. By November the assassination attempt and Biden will both be distant memories.

Mysteriously, as it turns out, the left has spent the last decade+ entrenching themselves in the FBI (and Homeland Security, and now the Secret Service, and...), and has already shown - multiple times - that they have weaponized the entire institution, and that they simply declare any political groups they don't like, "homegrown terrorists", and use the power of government to crack down on them.
It's going to be pretty revealing to see more people on this side finally come to the realization - just like they were late, and joked about the leftists in education, and leftists in the media - of how bad of an idea it was to let the radical left infest the government as well.
Just as an aside, isn't it strange how - since 2020ish - they have been doing their absolute best to drive anyone with non-leftist politics out of the police, and out of the military? When I'd wager there is at least a contingent of them that are throwing her out to not "waste" their real candidates on an already lost battle. And they get all sorts of diversity points for doing so.
They still need time to prep guys like Newsom out of all his controversies to give him his "real shot" and don't want to stain the legacy, so instead they can throw out the garbage that nobody wants, get some brownie points, and then seethe for 4 years to stir up "record breaking voter turnout" again like they did after the last Trump.

That's what I'm hoping. I would much rather Trump was still running vs Biden than Harris, though. First Woman President wasn't enough for Hillary and Trump had a lot less going for him back then than he does now.
And Kamala is so not liked and unimpressive they didn't even try to prop her up or meme her during the entire last 4 years, when at any moment Biden could have died and put her in the seat. I think Biden himself had a legitimate better shot than her even after the debate, simply because of how little anyone cared.
In the 2016 election Google and Media were caught flat footed. They were told 99% chance Hillary wins and they believed it.
