Plus there's the added kicker of being the lawyer that defended "the white guy" in an EOE case. No lawyer wants those optics on them in this day and age.

Oh yeah, I was right there with you. I snagged every #1 issue and chromium, die-cut, laser-etched, foil-stamped, hologram cover I could get get my mitts on, mainly because I wanted to read the stories, but I figured that if they did go up in value it couldn't hurt. I even managed to find a few series I stuck with in the process. My only regret is that I left a bunch of those in my old bedroom at my parents' house and I haven't been back in ages to get them. It would shock me if they hadn't been turned into a mouse's nest by this point, but I loved those books back in the day.

You have to remember that the '90s was the decade of the comics glut. Every publisher under the sun was cranking out a bajillion titles with infinity variant covers to try and drive the speculation market. My dad used to say that they (both the industry and the speculators) were "investing in tulips", and he wasn't far from the truth. I'm not surprised that there's plenty of back issues in the bins.

Both are owned by megacorps. Both are less likely to have oversight from their parent companies, because they have their own management structure in place.
