While admitting to a certain bias as some of my ancestors were poor Scots and Irish who came to the US at various times, while Ireland did have masses of people who were dirt poor, let's not forget that the Irish produced the Book of Kells, massive castles, and the monastic culture of Ireland helped lead the rest of Europe into re-learning Latin and Greek.

Ireland was so succesful, in short, that its population was very vulnerable to plagues and famines. The combination of being poor (relative to England), a large population, and the various revolts etc that led to the union with England, led to a tumultous century, when most of the Irish emigration to the US occurred.

I don't think it's remotely fair or accurate to compare the waves of Irish immigration with those from sub-Saharan Africa, etc.

LAAAAANNAAAAAAAAAAA!

I stopped watching a couple of seasons back. First 3-4 seasons are still solid gold.

Haha, at my office at that time these two women (20 somethings, at least) had a Twilight poster that they shared--one week it was in one woman's office, next week it would move to the other's.

It was a bit tongue in cheek, but yeah, they totally wanted to fuck Edward or that werewolf guy.

The only silver lining is that the jews that see through all the programming swing as hard right as ron paul in response.

That is exactly what happened to one of my best friends. He is Jewish and came from a well-educated, upper middle class, professional family. He was your 100% average leftist.

At some point in his 20s he had an awakening and became one of the most right wing guys I know.

I think this is actually a very telling post. There are many actively malicious people out there driving certain agendas. But, the vast majority of people are just sheep being herded along by emotion.

I've heard similar things from Jewish friends. They truly did feel that given the Jewish experience of persecution, holocaust, etc., that they owed it to the world to protect the downtrodden. There is, I think, a real sense of shock now that (for instance) American blacks are supporting Palestinian?? After Jews fought so hard for civil rights?

This is why leftism is a cancer and intellectually bankrupt.

Halo and Age of Empires? Agree, both good, but they were pretty much just acquisitions, yeah?

Bungie was a great company. Myth was awesome. I think I was one of 17 people who loved Oni. Halo, 'nuff said.

Those were my 2 favorite Windows version (actually XP was good too, after a bumpy launch), but were they "great"?

I've never been a rabid Microsoft hater, but MS has basically never done anything spectacular.

This is true, but it's getting increasingly hard to run Windows 7.

I actually run a couple of Windows 2000 VMs for some legacy software at my office. No Internet, so it's not a big deal.

But for Windows 7, browsers are out of date, encryption is out of date, and many/most programs will no longer install. Quickbooks was the one that forced me to upgrade, ugh.

Right there with you, good stories. I think the most memorable to me is the tattoo one (I'm forgetting the name). A Good Man is Hard to Find also.

Likewise, I don't remember any sex scenes...

I don't disagree, but IMHO, just roll with it. It's just clicks on a screen. Too many redditor asshats get all worked out about updoots.

There are a few opinions that will get you silently downvoted here. Notably, anything that that might remotely be construed as pro-Jewish or pro-Israel; and anything that doesn't fully buy into MGTOW/Incel narrative.

It's mostly silent downvotes, but who cares anyway.

I mean this is pretty much unprecedented in Israeli history. Everyone within rocket distance of Gaza has safe rooms in their homes and they're used to running for cover when the rocket sirens go off, but a massed ground attach? Unprecedented.

Edit: Stats I'm seeing are that there were at least 2.6 million tourists to Israel in 2022. This includes Jews as well as Christian and Muslim pilgrims, secular visitors, etc. In a normal year, it's a safe place to visit.

I think all of your points are correct, but #3 really reasonates. If you're not married, you have few IRL friends, and you hang out with a bunch of kids all day, it is possible to treat them as friends rather than as students. This is a mistake for many reasons. It certainly at leasst USED to be a firable offense!

Perhaps it's also why the "groomer" label has stuck so quickly and easily. The teachers doing this shit ARE grooming in exactly the same way sick fuck likes Sandusky groomed poor kids with love bombing so that he could rape them in the Penn State showers.

She* actually, should have said that. Just some dumb kid, basically, and she argued earnestly for how this shit helps kids, helps teachers, etc. (And of course she is straight and basic as fuck.)

Ironically, based 40+ lesbian went after her and told her to stfu basically.

I want this show to crash and burn hard, just like I want shitty NuTrek to crash and burn hard, because I loved what came before, and both NuWheel of Time and NuTrek shit on their legacy.

BUT... we lost.

For most people today, "Lord of the Rings" refers to the movies, not the books.

For most people today, Daniel Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter and Emma Watson will always be Hermione.

There are now people who when they think of Trek think of Discovery and JJ Abrams. There are people who think of Foundation and think of whatever the fuck that AppleTV abomination is.

Wheel of Time is forever tainted by the no-talent shits who wrote this crap.

The moral of the story is, never, ever, lose creative control of your content. GRRM kept a tight leash on the TV show until it passed his books and went off the rails.

This never would have happened if RJ was still around. He pondered actors, characters, etc., many times, and it's 100% clear that his vision for movie or TV series is nothing like what these ingrates have created.

Hollywood never "got" fantasy and science fiction. Hollywood can do action and it can do shitty dramas with a veneer of fantasy or science fiction, but it takes a strong individual auteur (Peter Jackson, Kubrick, David Lynch) to break the mold.

For whatever reason, Hollywood keeps picking the exact same type of useless effeminate girly men to write Star Trek...Star Wars...Foundation...Wheel of Time...etc. Fans respond negatively, directors freak out and attact fans, and the cycle of insanity continues.

#blackpill.

By the way, the most hated characters in every poll I saw in the last 25+ years were Faile, Egwene, and Gawyn...

Hah, really? I never minded Faile that much, but that may be in part because Perrin was my favorite.

Elaine was the one who drove me crazy.

Hear, hear. In college there was a mandatory dance for a group I was part of. I did the stuff I had to do and spent the rest of the party in the coat room reading a brand new Robert Jordan book. Great party!
