The FGC in 2025 is all troons and cringey woke brown anime fans. Capcom know they don't have to put in any effort at all since these youngins have zero standards and the old 30-40+ yo orbiters will buy everything purely based on momentum/nostalgia.
Personally I think all the charm of these games died when they went to 3D models and the '2.5D' look. Outside of games which purposely emulate the look of old sprites by using cel-shading and similar techniques, everything else now looks like a bunch of grotesquely proportioned rubber mannequins, regardless of game. And there's no going back, because 3D models are easy to sell DLC for. 2D sprites which you have to reanimate all over again, not so much.
There's an element of the competency crisis too. For example I have no idea how VF5, a 19 year old game with fine looking character models, was somehow re-released for Steam and modern consoles with everyone looking worse. Gutted of content compared to the old console versions and with terrible matchmaking too. When Sega was unable to even put a classic game like this back out without fucking it up, it was the death knell in my interest in fighting games honestly. That's without even getting into the fact there is a virtually complete, unmolested version of PC VF5 contained within Yakuza 6 and 7, sitting unreleased by Sega (accessible with mods). They had to go make a butterface version and release that instead.
Meanwhile.. the more attractive 3d fighting games get axed like dead or alive or soul caliber.. only tekken remains. Yet we still have woke ass mortal kombat and a progressively worse street fighter. Even indie or 2d fighting games get pressured yo be less "problematic".
Its kinda funny since EVO had a literal CEO who molest little boys. Guess the gay guy didnt like boobas.
Soul Caliber killed itself by trying to be taken seriously instead of just letting itself be the shameless fanservice game with the best CAC mode.
Soul Caliber 5 should be taught in schools in how to kill a franchise so dead that even a well received followup can't bring it out of the hole it dug.
lol the funny thing is that kinda monetization is pretty accepted in the grand scheme of things when we look at current games. but i do think its too far when they make it so you have to buy the same exact otufit for every girl XD..
Because a few years ago someone used a nude mod of Chun Li and forgot to remove it before playing at a major Esports tournament, and ended up broadcasted live all over. And I think there was a similar incident like a decade ago where the same thing happened, but I can't recall more details.
So the "horny" side of the fanbase finally threatened the "major business" side, and in doing so many of the big FGC companies started to panic to save face. Whether it was by making stricter rules, killing mods all over, or simply fucking up the characters so no one would want to jerk off to them.
The main characters like Sagat here don't look too bad in the game, all things considered. They spend some actual time and effort making the main cast work, with impact physics and other smaller details. It isn't the absolute pinnacle of graphical fidelity of course but considering how many fighting game players play on poverty hardware and that it doesn't have an awful art style like SF5 did, I don't really have much to complain about on this end.
Just about every other character though (like the black dude as the default character Capcom uses in place of your custom character) is made from the character creator, which is seemingly based on the Monster Hunter Rise character creator or some shit. They look really bad.
Capcom's been using the RE Engine for every game since Resident Evil 7. While it does realistic face-scanned characters well enough, it's when the artists try to stylize them that it goes off the rails.
Capcom started outsourcing their 3D models to foreign studios. Most infamously was the Chun Li model from Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite. Since then they have had very rough quality control. And with Street Fighter 6 they went all in on appealing to blacks and trannies.
The art design has been going downhill since at least Street Fighter IV. It was passable back then, but markedly worse art direction than Third Strike. Street Fighter 5 was when everything came completely off the rails, both in terms of visual and game design. SF6 greets you with a more flamboyant version of Ruby Rod.

"re-released for Steam and modern consoles with everyone looking worse"
Same for the much reviled improvements to the PS1 era Grand Theft Autos

You mean PS2 right? I would love to tear up London again with a better control scheme, but those are all GTAIII and after games.
I had to skip around because he kept saying ladies and gentlemen.
Apparently, never had the games until way after they were new, and on PC.
Could have sworn the friend I played them with only had a mini-PS1, and not a PS2, guess I was wrong.
You may be thinking of Driver.
Soul Calibur is missed greatly. I would also love a new Power stone.
Street Fighter 3 probably destroyed the 2D street fighter for Capcom. It looks great but feels slower and is harder to learn.
Dungeon Fighter Online would like a word.

Yeah it pissed me off how they decided they needed to change the game
Its a great example of how pandering to FGC losers is always the worst choice.
DOA decapitated itself by discovering that there is indeed a point where a fighting game can be over monetized.

How tiny is that black dude's head? Or that awkward nineties animation chick.

That is putting it mildly.

Miss Marvel looks decent, though, rofl.
Is that supposed to be a black Ryu or something? Other guy looks like Doppo Orochi
Looks like an Xbox 360 game, wow. I’m honestly impressed.
Also, who still plays this crap?
its Capcom. Lets not act surprised.

Black character is the main focus = check
Literal Nig worship = check
Hideous models = check
It died after the Alpha Edition (Before the series).
No. 3 was still good
3 was pretty sweet but Tekken 2 had come out by then and the genre had opened up a lot :)
They cast a Samoan man as Akuma for the upcoming movie.
Woke.
The entire Capcom show was pretty boring. New Resident Evil, bikinis on fighters, that weird robot game will be released soon maybe.
Did Take Two buy Capcom? All arcade fighting games have become My2K for som reason.
Jesus, how embarrassing.
Capcom has fallen. This is why Arc System Works got the Marvel license for fighting games.
