This negress ain't never read a book in her life. LOTR isn't a "trilogy". It's a novel that's usually published in multiple volumes due to amount of text it involves. Tolkien never intended the book to be divided into 3 separate tomes. It just happened as the initially short novel ballooned in size over the years it took to write.
