New York already tries to chase companies down when they leave.
Not just big corporations either. NY went after Louis Rossman for unpaid back taxes, despite no longer operating his little shop during that year in NYC.
You missed a step. NY went after his new company, formed in Texas, for taxes they claimed he owed from his defunct NY company.
That's insanity. I usually check him out every couple months, guess I gotta now.
You'd think the state bureaucrats would catch that before they let him dissolve his business.
Fun fact: The California Franchise Tax Board will go after you for state income tax if you so much as rent a storage unit. As far as the state is concerned, you didn't really move out completely if you still have personal property within its borders.
Stop selling gas, oil, propane, etc for transportation, cooking, heating and construction in New York. See how long the government and that law last.
Maybe fossil fuel companies can coordinate with farmers because you know meat producers will be next if this stands.
The fossil fuel companies could greatly improve New York if they let these people freeze to death.

Is that even legal? I was under the impression that new laws cannot be applied retroactively.
It's called an ex post facto law and it is explicitly forbidden in Article 1 of the constitution.

I'm going to get into office at some point in my life, and I'm going to make a law that says if you were in office (but lol not me because I get to control that shit) will have to pay me my government salary for the rest of my life, whether I have the job or not, because I'm awesome and they aren't. ... for climate change.

Energy companies are going to immediately pass on this tax to consumers. They need have a decent advertising campaign that explains who the sheep need to be mad at.
