Bored of this pair already. Bored of this pair by the second Spider-Man outing all things considered.
First, bitchface “MJ” complaining about slavery was enough for me to not finish the movie and never watch another.
Zendaya could play one of the monsters and that would be much more fitting, don't even need to do any makeup!
Watch them cast her as one of the "beautiful" siren mermaids.
Pedowood keeps trying to convince us that her RBF is "beautiful."
First. Zendaya's character called the Washington Monument a reminder of slavery in Homecoming.
They'll cast her as Circe and attach her to Odysseus' party instead of being a minor antagonist. She'll go on to defeat most of the other encounters. That's my guess.
Its already fucked. Won't be bothered.
What’s wrong? Those are all traditional Greek actors, right?
The only reason she gets cast is because of her stupid fucking name.
O Brother Where art Thou is already a perfect adaptation.
Yessir!
Tom Holland - potato-faced soy boy
Zendaya - 5 out of 10 mystery meat zoomer phenotype
Anne Hathaway - quirky boring white girl POV character actress
Matt Damon - Matt Damon
Lupita Nyong’o - belongs in the human zoo
Robert Pattinson - Millennial XL twink.
Matt Damon.
Same for Denzel Washington.
MATT DAMON!
MATT DAMON!!
Looked it up and it's legit, fuck me.
I know there were black warriors in the Iliad but I don't remember any in the Odyssey. I'm guessing we are getting black "Greek" gods again.
Well Zeus was always going out for a pack of smokes after his escapades.
He did abandon most of his offspring
Where there any mention of an actual black warrior in Illiad? We've studied it in school ages ago but I don't remember that subject being brought up.
Memnon
There's at least a slim chance that there could've been a few mercenaries hailing from someplace like Nubia, but that's about as far as I'd stretch it. And I only say that based on the historical war than on Homer's telling of it.
There weren't any black warriors in the Iliad or any classical Greek canon for that matter. It's Memnon you're referring to (who wasn't even in the Iliad), and given that the same people who say he was black are also the same people who think that Achilles and Patroclus (along with the rest of Greek society) were gay, I wouldn't give much credence to something like that either.
Which redhead is Zendaya race swapping this time?
Athena had red hair
I know a lot of Greek-Americans, and I can tell you that 1) those fuckers are proud of their national mythology and origin story and 2) they’re kind of fucking insane - like, Muslim-level, we might kill you if you piss us off insane.
So there might be some significant blowback to all this.
I don’t trust this
Zendaya is the most plain, borderline ugly mixed breed they've ever tried to force on us.
It's so fucking obvious THEY are trying to force ugly mutts as a beauty standard.
A lot of the actors are gay, but I haven't yet been disappointed by a Christopher Nolan movie so I'll withhold judgment until after release.
Haha. See, you even forgot about Tenet. Oppenheimer was fine, but Nolan has been on a decline.
Tenet was very interesting on a technical level. Unfortunately, the main character had zero charisma
This should really be a reminder to people to pick up on older literature if anything. There's a reason why works like the Iliad and the Odyssey survive almost three thousand years after their inception while any other given book or story eventually loses its appeal and becomes a "product of its time" so to speak. Plus, there have already been lackluster (and bastardized in my eyes) adaptions of the the two stories in the past which made more egregious changes than the simple race-swapping and obvious political changes which this film is starting off with. It says something about the original epics when even the past so-called film and book adaptations of them were, and still are, praised even though they each fundamentally differed (and even misunderstood important points) from the originals.
Wouldn't exactly be the first time that it's been royally botched by Hollywood.
The issue, for me, isn't even the casting (although that's an issue)...it's that it Current Year. Even if it's race swapping, I've enjoyed some myth/fantasy/epic/whatever inspired movies, despite that.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword had a black Bedivere and was still, to me, a very enjoyable movie. Prince of Persia has an Mbaka character, and he's great. Also...it has Gemma Arterton, so there's that.
Point is, even if it's not accurate, I can still enjoy a movie unless it's shoving propaganda in your face. Most of these actors are woke, so that they'd all attach themselves to the same project in current year is the real warning sign.
I miss the days when they could have black characters and not have it be about shitting on white people. I have nothing wrong with black characters, and I don't even mind the occasional race swap. My issue is that it's obviously political, and always only goes one way. I don't mind a creative liberty once in a while...the issue is the current batch of creative liberties...aren't creative. In the slightest. They don't add, they detract. And they can get fucked.
That said, I'll still wait and see. I won't give them money, but I'm not ready to write this off as complete trash before I've heard more. Nolan, while overrated in my opinion, still does good work. There's still the chance this is good.
Also, what the heck is a Lupita Nyong’o?
Correct.
Oh, but you must. You can't give them an inch or they're take a mile. Remember, they went from "We just want to get married" to "CPS is here to take you kids because you don't support their transition." Look, you sound like someone who wants to presents themselves as "reasonable," and I get that. The problem is, bucko, that we're up against a very unreasonable, irrational enemy that is playing for keeps. Winner-take-all. They will not extend you the same "reasonable" manners. They want you to bend the knee, and nothing less will do.
Go read the Melian Dialogue. There's no place for "nice guys" like you in this fight, and it seems like you've noticed enough to know as much.
I used to not mind the occasional race swap but it’s been done to death and like you said there are political reasons behind it. Most annoying when it’s set in a specific period and it looks way out of place. Wasn’t that character explained in the King Arthur story as someone who came with the Romans but never left England?
Possibly, but it's still an excuse and a race swap, considering there's no evidence Bedivere was black, and no description of him as such. They can give any explanation they want, they're still swapping a white character into a black one.
Agreed. I think I have that confused with a book series. Honestly if I was in charge I’d put an immediate freeze on race swapping especially in period pieces on the grounds that it looks ridiculous. By all means do a show about a West African kingdom and by all means show all the slavery and everything that the west gets attacked for. Could do the same with pre-European arrival Americas
Exactly. That's what it so often comes down to. "Make your own shit." I have nothing against black characters. I have things against black/female/gay/whatever characters that are established straight white male characters, or what have you, for example.
Create new stories. I don't care how many of whatever group you put there, and you can float or sink on your own merits. I wish they were actually churning out good entertainment, instead off racist, sexist propaganda.
I call it “the trifecta” to refer to the obsession since 2016 to shove black/female/lgbt into everything along with massive over representation of demographics. I mainly watch stuff made before 2014. I have my views as a Christian regarding lgbt but I’ve read books or seen characters who happen to be gay but that isn’t the story focus. I’ve long said about gay stuff that they need their own streaming service or channel if they want it to be prominent.
The excuses for race swapping are so dumb too. They bring up a white actor playing an Indian or Asian years ago. The latest one I’ve heard is “well they embodied the spirit of the character”.
A decent actress who shouldn't be within 50 miles of an Odyssey adaptation.
