So, when it says "this file can no longer be copied" are they referring to downloading it? I'm pretty sure that violates the law of a number of countries that say data uploaded online remains the property if the person uploaded it. If you can't pull it back down you don't really own it.
The owner of the file still has access to it. They just can't share it. Google's Misleading Content policy only applies to content that has been set to "public" rather than "private".
OK, that makes more sense. The Mike Benz guy saying you lost access was confusing.
Seems like a case of having to abide by Google's rules, no matter how unfair they are, if you want to play in their pool.
I don't store anything online for the number of privacy and accessibility reasons. Apparently these fuckers are scanning all your personal shit, which is the most concerning aspect of this.
Yeah I keep everything personal offline, backed up in multiple hard drives. A lot of people I know say they don't care what corporations know about them, but after seeing people get canceled for innocent things they said or did 10 or 15 years ago, I say you really can't be too careful.
I live my life and protect my children and privacy by not using apps that are “free”, nothing in this world is free, nothing! So if the app is free, I believe that means I am the product being sold. I only have one app from them and that’s YouTube, because Rumble is still lacking DIY channels so personally I use it for said DIY tutorials, I also have two children that also use my account. I figure that way their algorithm creating your digital ID is all over the place making it difficult to create a lidentity to sell from an adult and two children five years difference in age using the same login account plus I can always check history and see what those monsters at Google are trying to push On my kids. I also use a Gmail account for all my spam email and when I used their cloud storage I stored high resolution wide format rasterized images Which makes them difficult to compress without losing the resolution values so it just to took up space a lot of space. I work in Graphic Signage wide format printing so I had a lot of fun simply making massive files from flattening vector images into TIFFs with 1200 dpi, and then uploading them to Google drive. I don’t use that account anymore but I never closed it. Occasionally I login on a public computer just to see if it’s still there and if it’s still full. Haven’t used it since 2016ish outside of adding more images if they offer up more cloud storage space.
This isn't new. Google removed the New Zealand Incident from everyone's "drive" and that was five years ago. That may or may not have been on behalf of the NZ gov as they jailed a guy for having it.
Mega.nz offers 20GB free on signup and DGAF what you store.
If you're technically inclined, you can also set up NextCloud on a spare computer at home (or in your homelab if you're hardcore) and then you have full control over everything.
Well, if you're gonna store files, at least store it on sites that value free speech. there are TONS of other file storage alternatives that aren't glowie-compromised and/or are run by pro free speech folks.
Maybe they should be held to account properly and they isn't just google but the people with names and addresses where following orders isn't an excuse.
Today its google drive but mark my words - in a few years it will be your local drive. My guess is when you accept the EULA for Windows, MacOS, Android or iOS you basically sign away your rights to the files stored on that device. In part because they are having their LLM's go through all the data to "learn" from it. Today they look at it, tomorrow they edit it, censor it, delete it.
Better yet store a bunch of unique random shit in google drive.
It'll waste their space and lots of energy having AI look at it.
Download a 10 hour stream and reencode it with handbrake, put an linux iso into a zip file with password, whatever you can think of that makes it a new combination of bits.
What is the logic behind this fascist bullshit? "We have determined your content is false based on the narrative we're trying to push alongside some globalist governments, so because people cannot think for themselves and we can't let our narratives crumble in the face of real pieces of evidence, we have taken the necessary measures to prohibit you from sharing it. Deal with it however you want to." What the heck?

If it's not your storage it isn't yours.
Like crypto currency.
Based on the filename I can guess exactly which NYC-related video this was and who might want it suppressed, too.
what is it? Is it related to Israel/Gaza?
Youtube(JewishNYC)tunnelfootage

I just got the parts for a NAS today, can't wait to build it this weekend.
NextCloud is good but a little over spec'd if you just want file storage.
I'm running Seafile and have been happy with it as a Dropbox replacement.
Only a retard stores files in an online storage space they don't even own.
Well, if you're gonna store files, at least store it on sites that value free speech. there are TONS of other file storage alternatives that aren't glowie-compromised and/or are run by pro free speech folks.
Also maybe encrypt stuff. People seem to forget that I feel.
Encrypted storage costs more. I'm still not gonna use the cloud as my primary backup. I have copies at my house and my Dad's house before that.
Ok, so because you obviously didn't want to list them, how does one find those websites or services?
You can use a cloud service as an extra backup, as long as you encrypt your files with a strong password.
You shouldn't be using Google products period,
Stop being an idiot and supporting people that fucking hate you and want you dead.
Maybe they should be held to account properly and they isn't just google but the people with names and addresses where following orders isn't an excuse.
To people who say this, I say: install an ad blocker. You're not supporting them by using their bandwidth for your own purposes.
Ad blocker doesn't stop GMail from reading your mail.
“The cloud” is just someone else’s computer.

and eulas terms and so on are dealt differently in other countries so that should be leveraged to stifle their efforts.
Imagine trusting Google Drive in 2024.
I thought this was already a known issue which is why the only thing that I use my google account for is junk mail.

There are a couple of capacity-based crypto out there where each minable file is about 100 GB of random data.
Do not keep files you care about on somebody else's computer period. And make backups.

Glad I don't use Google drive, search, mail, ... anything.
Huh. I make my lists on google. This is going to be fun.
