I dont have an account and last I read you needed to give them a phone number which kind of turns me off. I was wondering if anyone here has an account and how much value you actually find in having one?
Part of me wants to get one but my gut is telling me that I get enough information from other sources. I was just looking for any info or feedback from you fellas here and to see what people actually think of it since Elon took over.
No I got permanently banned for spamming Harambe memes at Lesley Jones. Still haven't been unbanned.
we thank you for your service
try a new account though, they are much less ban-happy now
Nah, they're not getting my phone number.
How valuable is a phone number?
I can get a disposable sim with a new number for $5
Eh, I know they track phone numbers for security clearances, and once Trump wins I'd like to have the option to work in that field again.
based
Good to know, I haven't used any normie social media in over a decade (unless you count reddit, when I had an account years ago).
I'd probably follow a variety of things. Its too bad Elon hasn't done a wholesale unbanning of people yet. I could be mistaken but it feels like he has gone further down the path of red pill so to speak but maybe I'm reading things wrong.
I use it because it’s frankly the fastest news source in existence.
While the Secret Service were busy picking their own buttholes, and the media was busy crafting a narrative, Twitter already had pictures of the Trump assassin out.
Maybe they broke into that salon i Massachusetts to really get a good ole scratch at those pinworms.
I have one. I signed up for the first time once Musk took over. I browse there a few times per week and post maybe ten comments per week.
The phone number requirement is only for premium accounts. Or at least it was when I signed up. I wanted to show a bit of support and was going to pay for Twitter blue, but once I saw the phone number requirement I decided against it.
X is by far the best social media network right now.
I used to at one point because an idiot uni lecturer decided it would be a genius idea to do stuff though twitter from time to time, but that's so long ago now I don't even remember what my account was. Same idiocy happened with another lecturer who wanted certain coursework done in formats that could be posted to other social media platforms. The take up on those were... "interesting" to say the least as even then there were quite a few people who have social media accounts and didn't want to make one just for course work. Seeing as how several of them had "data leaks" at some point the opinion was well founded.
That sounds awful to use as part of uni.
It was so fucking stupid and I think most of it only happened that one year because the feedback was so bad. The Twitter thing may have been more established so both had a few years on it already and kept going for some more after, but the rest was just a shitshow.
I do, it's not my original old one I nuked that in 2020. I'm pretty silent on there but I do find it to be an okay place to follow things. It can be annoying at times, but it is much less speech-limited with Musk in control. Perfect, no, but in 2020 it was a cesspool of current thing only. Lesson learned though, I am much more limited in what I follow, I don't need a bunch of people telling me what to think .
Are you sure you need a phone number? Mine is set up without one, and my current account is post-Elon. I think you can just use an e-mail.
use a temporary sms svc to reg
it's easier than cycling nitter instances. if u want to say something u can.
I have one, but I rarely post from it. I use it to keep up with news.
They don't seem to ban for nearly as much now. IMO it is worth making an account because it is the biggest place there is meaningful counter-narrative to the gay commie agenda.
I have been a proud member of this movement for years.
I've just never been a fan of "social media" in general. I don't have a facebook, don't have a twitter, don't have an instagram, and barely use emails. For me if you aren't in my direct circle of contacts then you probably aren't important enough to me.
I created an account years ago, and it was immediately suspended for "suspected bot activity" demanding my phone number. I wasn't going to give in to an obvious shakedown so I abandoned the account. I haven't tried getting the account unsuspended or creating a new account since Musk took over, but if the same non-rule rule is in place I'm not doing it.
I have an account to follow artists, mostly Japanese but some Westerners as well. I personally found it to be valuable, as there are some artists I've discovered that never use Pixiv or whatnot and other artists usually boost each other through retweets.
I make it a point to never follow artists that post more politics or personal drama than art. I don't care if it's a leftoid or a rightoid; their hot takes pollute my feed no matter the alignment and it becomes a giant retard magnet. If I wanted that shit, I'd dive in the algorithmic sewer that is the "For you" tab.
At some point in the very distant past I think I created one when it was brand new. But that style of subscriber style messaging has never appealed to me.
It's always seemed like a race to the bottom popularity contest.
No. Not welcome on social media sites and apps. I tell uncomfortable truths, people get offended and I get shadowbanned, posts deleted, persistently accused of being a bot or just outright banned. Trolling is one thing, uncomfortable truths is next level tier and people hate it.
Which leads to a number of issues. Particularly as they become walled gardens and shut down privacy based access methods, companies are moving their customer services to X and WhatsApp. And service status information including from Government agencies are increasingly becoming exclusive to X.
It's so frustrating sometimes that updates from the power company during blackouts is solely posted on Twitter.
Let alone the fact that you need cellphone data to access it in the firstplace with your router down.
"It requires a phone number" is a fake excuse from people who fixated and made "guy who hates social media" a permanent part of their personality 10-15 years ago.
I have the old pre-phone account. Even if I had a phone, I wouldn't register for online services that ask me for it.
Is X "worth it" ? Hell no. Just another waste of time online.
Now that you don't need a phone number anymore its easy to set up burner accounts
i have one and I gave twitter a fake number of course.
My dormant account got 'hacked' by someone in San Fransisco and I've been unable to get it back. Tried repeatedly.
No, I don't need to be looking at yet another social media app. Yet another app is definitely something I shouldn't be doing.
Yeah I made one when elon bought it. I use it occasionally. Far more than other social medias.
I have one that I made... A decade ago, at this point. I barely touched it, never saw the appeal in Twitter, even before it went off the rails.
I have a random password generated username that I just use to read news and stuff. Got back in ye olden times when you didn't need to give them a phone number and used a burner hotmail (member them?) account to get it.
Never posted. Only access it via a VPN. Have ~3,000 "followers". Boggles the mind.
I don't blame you for not giving them anything that can get you doxxed. Eventually Elon is going to get bored shit-posting on it and sell. Then the woke mob is going to be back in charge and they're going to have your home address.
There's a lot of good AI tutorials and news on Twitter, so I use it for that.
I concur. When I originally quit it was really for that reason. It did nothing but make me angry. Not necessarily over mean tweets, just the mix of stupidity and propaganda manipulation.
While I do have an account again, it's more to occasionally be able to open a link because Nitter got to be a pain, or to search for something hot in the news I want to find info about. I went from looking at it multiple times a day to once a week at most.
