Please stop, I might need to see a doctor I trust if this persists for more than a few days..

I'll tell you the same thing I told the localisers, game studios and movie studios: if you weren't all so shit at your jobs, you wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

I'm predicting this'll be one of the sectors AI will take over if not already covered by independent outlets and it'll just scrub the Internet for information more accurate than these hacks can provide.

if you weren't all so shit at your jobs, you wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

You've kinda hit on one of the central weaknesses of the woke: their demonic inversion of good and evil. Since they have to swap out evil for good (so that they can be the good guys in their own mind), they can no longer function in a world ruled by logic and objective measurements. They keep doing what they're doing because in their judgement, they are doing good, and well.

Run Disney into the ground? Well, at least we kept any pissbaby chud-approved media from being made! Bankrupt some of the biggest, oldest news corporations-- all founded on Rothschild and Rockefeller gold? We were sabotaged by MAGA extremists and kept up the speaking Truth to Power as long as we could! Destroy local libraries, all to get pats on the head from the Alphabet Mafia? These local yokels can call me a bad person all they want to, I'm really a great, virtuous person, and I've exceeded my goals of success!

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Produce shit. Act surprised when people aren't interested in shit. Replace shit with more shit. Act surprised no one is interested in more shit. Repeat. Never figure out what the problem is. Continue downward to shit. Shit all over anyone with an actual solution to the shit because their solutions highlights all the shit which is too shitty so continue producing shit instead. Wonder why everything has gone to shit.

“This is a delayed reaction to the commercial Internet itself,” he said. “I don’t know if anything could have been done differently.”

What you could have done differently is simple.

  1. Actually tell the truth, rather than just pushing your personal propaganda

  2. Stop having blatant, obvious contempt for huge amounts of your potential audience

Keep repeating steps 1 and 2

Political bias and contempt for the audience aside, they never even did anything to set themselves apart from "new media" blogs and websites. On YouTube they were so completely dominated by amateur upstarts that they must depend on the platform itself biasing the algorithm in favor of old media. They used to have comment sections and closed those down. They completely fail at interacting with the Internet in any meaningful way. Things like reddit, Google News and social media sharing links to news stories are all that kept them afloat, and they wanted to charge for link sharing too.

Maybe stop being CIA/establishment mouthpieces and do your jobs again?

Did they ever do virtuous things or was that just a lie we were all told as children? I suspect it's the latter.

I don't believe journalism as a business has ever been trustworthy. If money hinges on something, people will manipulate it.

Reporting the news well is, by itself, no longer a profitable business proposition

How the fuck would you know?

They blame everything under the sun except for the actual problem, which is that people don't trust them, and they only have themselves to blame for that so of course they will never acknowledge it.

The decline of local news was, many theorized, part of the reason that Trump, with his misinformation-strewn campaign, could gain purchase to begin with.

When did the local news decline begin? Where can readers find good examples of the decline? How many is many? Who exactly theorized? What kind of "misinformation" did Trump generate? When was that "misinformation" most prevalent? Did other candidates also engage in "misinformation"?

I have so many questions, and the article does little to answer them.

The business models that will sustain journalism in the future won’t be perfect. They’ll leave people out who need good-quality news the most. They will probably cater to older, wealthier men who (for now) make up the demographic most likely to pay for news. There will be idiocy and the enablement of rich idiots.

Save my very important, essential and totally not politically compromised industry, rich white male scum!

Local news are marginally more honest than national, if only because they're forced to attend every boring town hall meeting voting on shit like adding a traffic light or painting the public library from gray to beige.

It's like someone asked AI to write an article summarizing why mainstream media sucks, using only mainstream media articles for its training data. I look forward to these "human" journalists getting replaced.

The business of news is entertainment, and there's nothing more boring than LE HECKIN' GOOD GUYS FIGHTING LE EBIL RIGHTOID CHUDS.

How about you "subvert expectations" and make the Leftoids the villains for once?

while I'm glad to see it all crash and burn, they already know with the next generation of propaganda looks like. everyone finds their own news and sources by looking things up on the internet, and it makes them think that they've come up to their conclusions on their own. they think themselves enlightened because they read and judge their knowledge for themselves, instead of being told by some fancy person in a fancy suit on a fancy TV screen.

The future of propaganda is simply in censorship, shadowbanning, and search engine optimization. And it will be more effective than the news ever was.

Reporting the news is incredibly useful and even profitable. Even commentating on the news, very different from reporting on it, can be very profitable. Plenty of people do it quite adeptly over YouTube and make a living not only for themselves, but for a whole tightly-knit team.

But if you're dumping a million a month on a DIE division or consultancy firm, well, that million could have paid off your entire staff's salaries and travel expenses.
