Unions were created to solve 1800s problems like company towns and total disregard for safety in factories.
Today they are used by people who think they should be able to support a whole family as middle class while standing and monitoring the checkouts at Walmart. Even in things like trades where they are most effective, it's just a sap on money for dues so that your union threatens those who want to hire someone who doesn't pay the union. Sounds about like the Mafia.
I find it weird that Google is basically a company town in and of itself, but no one seems to care. Same with Microsoft, Apple and others.
When Twitter was bought, the company town idea was also kicked out.
Their company towns serve "gourmet" meals. It's (d)ifferent
In Seattle, you know which company owns that area. Amazon is near the gay district and Capitol Hill. Microsoft is in the white everything Redmond. Boeing is in the old work down Renton. Cthulhu is in Tacoma.
Jimmy Hoffa has entered the chat
Fuck off kike, why should I be condemned to have my genes die out just because I'm forced to work an actually useful job.
????
if you can support yourself naturally, feel free to leave the workforce. most people can't because most people did not grow up in a society of self-sustenance. rather, we are a society of trading in trading is all we know how to do.
you can learn to self-sustain, you can trade your labor for money that you can buy goods and services with, or you can die of starvation. you have to pick one.
unions are just another bureaucracy that steals your money for the privilege of telling you when you're not allowed to work. If you need a union, it's because you work in a saturated workforce where the actual value of your labor has dwindled below what you find acceptable, and you should find a different profession.
This is a perfect distillation of the problem. A bunch of spineless fuckwits whose labor isn't actually worth much who can't be bothered to stand up for themselves and need others to do it on their behalf.
Sucks to suck. Git gud.
Unions are for losers.
to be fair, in a world of monopolization it is hard to get fair employment terms. I do think the unions were necessary once upon a time, but they are extremely antiquated.
Not if you're actually a skilled worker no. If you're a seat filler, you betcha they won't treat you well. Your value as a worker is directly commensurate with how difficult it is to replace you.
I disagree. In a monopolized environment, cronyism and cozying to the right people is what gets you ahead. your actual skill or productivity is irrelevant.
A company has to be worried about losing you to their competitors in order to give a shit about your productivity. if they know they are the only one that you can work for, there's no incentive for them to treat you well.
You just described a union. Kissing ass, cronyism, etc. Unions in a nutshell.
indeed I did. the people you have to suck up to might change, but the result is mostly the same. the difference is one has to at least pretend that your safety and well-being are their top priority.
That side isn't the unions dude. They're there to take your money and launder it.
The person who will look out for you is you.
Nobody is hard to replace, new replacements are coming by the thousands every day.
Which is of course an argument for bet zero immigration allowance, but that's not the point. Jose and Mugumbo aren't replacing skilled workers.
Yes they are, there's nowhere left to run and the way I see it I'll probably end up dead on the street eventually when I'm unable to find work.
They're certainly not replacing me. My profession is still about 80% White and 10% Asian.
We have no leverage, there's nothing we can do legally and white men are inherently disadvantaged in america.
This is defeatism. Your leverage is your superior skills and the employer's need for competent employees.
All jobs pay below what I find acceptable for the work, I shouldn't have to risk my life just to live in a shitty neighborhood where I'll eventually be robbed and killed without having ever reproduced.
Funny troll account, at least this time your content makes me laugh a bit
I refer to my original post. the jobs you are looking for require a skill set that is common, and therefore has low economic value because the supply outweighs the demand.
you should be looking for jobs that employ the skills that you have that few others do. if you don't have any, develop some. if you aren't willing to do either of these things, enjoy your shitty job with shitty pay.
It's weird that I don't want THAT pizza as it looks bad but I do want a pizza that SIZE right now..
Unions have outlived their usefulness in the west, in fact it's a sign of a dying company nowadays with rats trying to save themselves by forming a union on a sinking ship.
That's a fascinating idea. Can you go further on the idea from the last paragraph?
There's several tech companies that had talks between staff of unionising to 'protect workers rights' when really it was to protect their cushy life.
I think there was talk for a while of doing it in twitter pre Elon when it was kept alive on life support by Deep State funding. After Elon and they were all ditched, it actually became more promising.
Same thing in video game companies, talks of having unions to better protect workers.
What did these workers that need a union make for us: Skull and Bones.
What did 10 guys make without need for a union: Palworld
Unionising nowadays is a sign that instead of using talent to justify your pay, you're using sheer weight of numbers to intimidate the company into not ditching them for fear of negative PR when it could be the best decision for the company.
10 ragtag bunch of misfits, including a gun otaku that worked at a convenience store and a lead artist fresh out of college that got rejected from everywhere he applied, made a game through the power of friendship and anime.
That's a really good point. I will try to find articles that follow up with the idea.
Our cushy lives should be protected, at gun point if need be.
The only bad tactics are the ones that don't work. Jobs are temporary anyway so might as well bleed the company dry since it's not like you'd have a lasting job anyway.
Fuck off, commie.
Lol idk if you're the same troll as usual but this is much funnier content, keep it up!
Much better command of written English than the old troll, so I'm guessing they're new.
What they don't realize is that in communist countries, unions are simply mouthpieces for the Party, and exist only to communicate orders from above.
Hell, some unions here already are basically mouthpieces for the employer, and it seemed to get worse under Covid in some places.
Oh, that realize it. They're just dishonest.
And if they're not mouthpieces for the employer, then they're almost certainly mouthpieces for the government.
Unions are just communism with a different name.
Fuck unions and the leeches that run them.
Unions are great if you want a business to stop existing. Why the fuck should I pay someone to tell me what my labor is worth? It's my labor; I should be free to charge as much or as little as I want.
That is a good way to punish small businesses so big business can win.
For all the talk of "union busting", they never mention how Amazon has been lobbying for a $15 minimum wage on the federal level.
Big corporations love unions because they set a price floor just like regulations
Nothing good has come from a union except getting paid more money to do less work. That's a great idea if you're a lazy communist.
Getting paid more to do less is always good, I don't want to get myself killed working for pay that doesn't even provide enough income to keep me stable in between jobs.
Then perhaps you should either cease to exist or own the capital instead of being a mere laborer. Why did your parents have you as a child if you're so poor?
Getting wealthier isn't a possibility and society needs people on the bottom rung to even function, we should still be allowed to live comfortably.
No, we should reduce the amount of people on the bottom rung which then would increase the price of your labor. Ban immigration and deport all non-Whites from NA and Europe. Then you will get paid sufficient for your labor without the need for unions. Unions aren't actually the solution to the problem. If the price of labor is too cheap that's because there's too many laborers (supply/demand). We need LESS labor so the price of labor goes up.
You act like I'm not already in support of that along with recolonizing the world.
Poor people on the bottom rungs of society do live comfortably! Be happy that as someone who lives in the west you have potable water coming from your taps, electricity that is available more than 99% of the time, that if you live in an apartment you are entitled to a working refrigerator, a roof that doesn't leak, a unit free of bugs, and working smoke detectors. Even poor people here can afford TVs and cars and air conditioning. Go to somewhere like Mexico or the Philippines and see how poor people live there.
My quality of life will end up there soon enough I don't see why it matters.
I don't pretend to be an expert, but I am still waiting for someone to show me some evidence that unions have any positive role in the 21st century.
I have been in two unions in my life, and both were absolute and abject disasters. The first one, about 20 years ago, was when I worked gameday staff for an MLB team. When one of my coworkers was fired for a really bullshit reason (clear and open retaliation) it took six months before he was cleared to come back, and by that time it was almost Thanksgiving.
Last year I was in another union that was only for entry level staff (I was in the midst of a career change). That union was worse: their primary concern was providing febreeze to my coworkers who couldn't manage to get to work without smelling like a dispensary. When I raised a complaint (I was scheduled on doubles 17 days in a row), the union told me verbatim "I hope you don't think it is our job to listen to your complaints."
Fuck them... and I can say that now as management who is definitively not in the union.
Just... give me one example of a union doing something that is a net positive. Demanding a 30% raise because the democrats fucked the economy doesn't quite qualify.
Unions are good when they work for the people that wanted them created to be their voice.
The second the union goes from being a collective bargaining agent of the people, into existing so that it can continue to exist, is when unchecked power and the best of intentions collide.
It leads to unions that exist so that they may collect money and power for the purpose of continuing to exist, and nothing more.
I'm not necessarily against the concept of unions, as I do think it is necessary for all kinds of groups to organise in their own defence against greater powers, but in practice they become corrupt like any man made organisation.
The fact that every single union isn't devoting 100% of its time, funding and energy towards campaigning against immigration is a damning indictment of all of them.
