If China and Korea DON'T call their stuff Anime because it's not made in Japan, the west can fuck off with it's inferior cartoons. They don't even make the good stuff anymore like Batman the animated series or Avatar the last airbender.
This might be indication that the tourists are having too much difficulty getting into anime studios to subvert them (let's be honest, a lot would BREAK them day one with their work schedules) so are going the second route of subverting the meaning to make it apply to their shittier products.
So, calling this "xenophobia" is ridiculous (I wonder if this is a child) but it is true from the Japanese perspective that all cartoons are anime. Of course they're not talking about the Japanese perspective but the western term "anime", which has a specific meaning. That's ok. We needed a word for "Japanese cartoons". I bet this weirdo would get offended if we kept using "JAPanimation".
I’m working my way out of the normie status with anime and manga but from what I understand it hasn’t been infested like comic books, gaming, D&D, etc. have. Is that true?
There's been attempts like Crunchyroll trying to call the shit pile 'High guardian spice' an anime but the only times they've gotten their claws in is through translators
Asia as a whole LOVES cute things and beautiful women, both things the woke can't stand. They also have a very good fiction/reality divide in their heads so they can make some truly messed up shit but be productive members of society. They also understand nuance which the left have lost, a lot of their stories I would drop if woke had written it as it would've turned into pedo shit.
Yeah.. i watch asian shows made in asia. I reject asian centric shows made in the west. Asian shows have hot people and nice scenes. Im 2nd gen asian and i feel more connected to my asian heritage watching these aaian made shows.. than whatever cringy ass pandering show made in usa. All.. and i mean all asian american female actresses are frumpy, ugly, fat or goblin looking.
Western made "Asian" shows: haha y'all look the same, we gave you chubby annoying vietnamese chick in space, why don't the Chinese market like it?? We have 2 Chinese women playing geishas, why are the Japanese cringing?
Western shows would interject diversity and ruin the story. A group of wildly different cultured/race people being friends is highly unusual. If it exists in a story, the fact that it’s suspicious should come up a lot.
Western studios hate showing racial homogeneity though, which makes Asia-shows-from-asia feel much more grounded and real.
If people want to experience multiculturalism.. theaters should start showing foreign films. Its interesting that the rest of the world watches films made by usa.. but not the other way around.
But.. i think commies dont want that. Kinda like how north koreans dont want their citizens to watch ourside shows. Dont want your citizens to have a more grounded reality on what the rest of the world is. I know its silly using shows as references for a culture.. but sometimes thats the only thing you get.
Japanese people are still culturally allowed to tell basic classic stories without subverting them, draw characters who are traditionally attractive and visually appealing, and the studios aren't beholden to anybody who wants to destroy Japanese culture. There are a lot of rotten trans folks and leftists who watch and have strong opinions about anime but they have absolutely no impact on what gets made in Japan for Japanese people.
They can only ruin the localizations and try their best to stigmatize anime fans, but they have no creative control over the art itself.
What SJWs really hate the most about anime is how easy it is to escape their indoctrination, because all you have to do is just watch fan subs. Its not like games where you have to learn Japanese to play the original uncensored version.
Yes, because the industry, for now, does not feel a need to orient every single product to a female demographic. There is enough actual diversity of product that, among the fans, fence-sitters or moderates, without being considered a misogynist, can tell feminists to go watch or read Y instead of X if they don't like the content in X.
This is true cultural appropriation.. imperialism and colonization all over again. Its like how british teach its colonies how to be civilized and advance. While leftist reach its colonies how to be fags and culturally enrich themselves.
There is precedent in the legal system of a working and valid definition being "I know it when I see it" (specifically, in USA obscenity laws concerning pornography). Therefore, there's no need to debate minutae. What is anime? I know it when I see it. And that CalArts face in that thumbnail ain't anime.
What about the stuff by Studio Canal in France that was trying to emulate the style of anime that was around at the time. Everything from Bots Master to Totally Spies had a style derived straight out of a specific anime or an anime studio.
Doesn't make it bad. Just definitely borrowing a quality or two or three from things they really liked. I don't get what the deal is.
No one said its bad, but it still isnt anime. "Anime" has always meant japanese things exclusively. If we start including foreign cartoons just because they copied the anime style then eventually what is called "anime" is going to be filled with nothing but non Japanese things and the word "anime" would become meaningless.
And there are bad actors out there that want to steal the "anime " name, who will copy the artstyle of anime but everything else about it is western and a lot of people want to avoid that, in the first place a lot of us watch anime because we wanted to avoid western things that have gone woke. And anime has a specific culture that can only really come from Japan that the West cannot emulate even if it wasnt woke. Instead of trying to call their things "anime" they should be improving the quality of "cartoons" and stop trying to steal the "anime "name just because its got more prestige. And its got more prestige because its simply better than cartoons so the answer isnt to steal its name rather its to improve the quality of cartoons
Frankly, i think it's lame and racist to diatinguish where an animated cartoon comes from. It's just another example of fart-sniffers needing to separate from "kids stuff" , same with comic books.
I"m in Foothills Hospital, i won't be posting much.
I don't live in Calgary. You know what sucks more than being sick? Being knocked out during a helicopter ride.

It's like how champagne is sparkling wine, but only fun one particular place.
At this point, it’s champaign vs grape vinegar filled with cum. Only freaks drink the latter and they demand it be called champaign.
Batman TAS was animated partially by Sunrise, so in a way it WAS anime.

I still call em ChinaToons and Japanimation
Mongolian moving pictures.
South-Asian sequential cel-shadings?

Plus one thing I love about Manga is the acceptance that men and women tend to like different kinds of stories
Fansubs are always better anyway
I don't know about Crunchyroll but I know Hidive has fixed localizer defacements before if enough people complain about it.
Unfortunately Hidive pulled out of a bunch of regions giving more of a monopoly to Sony and Crunchyroll if you weren't using the high seas already.

I dunno.. gaming is slowly changing to be more woke.
That’s good to hear

''Anime'' is cartoon, usually used in the narrow sense of ''Japanese cartoon''.
There is no point in keeping the word ''anime'' if you're going to make it synonymous with cartoon by including non-Japanese cartoons.
People obviously want to ride the prestige associated with Japanese cartoon when using the word ''anime'' for non-Japanese animated work.
Gatekeep them out to safeguard the usefulness of the word, or don't bother and call everything ''cartoon''..
Would this mean The Simpsons and Family Guy are Koreanimation? Wait till you read about The Real Ghostbusters and Little Nemo.
Subverters mad because MAL gatekeeps

The correct response to their kind is "Shut the fuck up foreign devil!"
"white pig go home"
Old post ik, but I just have to say that there is no good definition of anime that includes Scott Pilgrim and does not include Shrek.
